No patient ASKS a doctor NOT to heal them. That's absurd. They asked the other doctors to "stop stealing my friends XP". It had nothing to do with healing or doctors or anything actual Medics do. It had everything to do with rude powergamers trying to whore their XP to their d00d friends and getting angry with people doing their job to help everyone get healed up and back to having fun as quick as possible.

If all you're interested in is XP, please don't be a Medic. If you still want to be a Medic don't bitch about peoplehelping patients who are hurt bythinking they are trying to steal your XP. Be greedy and selfish and powergamey elsewhere please.

If someone's hurt I'll heal them. If you whine at me about taking "your XP", I'll just use bigger healing kits.

Ahhh..... How I loved the last few days of beta. Me and my faithful droids Timzai and Mycroft sitting outside the doors of the cantina and healing people as they left. How sweet it was. =P

>> No patient ASKS a doctor NOT to heal them. <<

And yet that's exactly what happened. And I don't think the patient's reasonsfor asking what he did have any bearing on whether it was rude for the medics to continue healing him after he requested they stop. It was rude, and they should have stopped. And since they didn't, a case could be made that they were the ones who were "only concerned about the XP."

Let me explain one of the things that informed my opinion on this (and maybe help convince everyone that my outlook isn't inspired by manic power-gaming d00d-dom).I used to play a fantasy MMORPG in which a player would develop scars after healing wounds. One player had his eye wounded, and developed a "missing eye" scar that he came to wear as a badge of pride and a character trademark. Until one day when he was walking through the town square (where the healers congregated to tend patients) and a healer swooped in and, without asking, restored his eye.

And man, was he pissed.

I read this story in a message board post, the moral of which was... obviously... "Please take a second to ask before you heal." It stuck in my mind...my help might be unwanted, for reasons I might not be able to predict. So I got in the habit of asking before I healed anyone. (I was a healer in that game, too... seems to be the profession I'm drawn to.)And though it didn't happen often, if someone did decline my offer to heal,I didn't heal...no questions asked, no reproach, no harm, no foul. And even though this same "scar" situation doesn't apply to SWG, the habit still followed me. Ask, and accept a "no" gracefully. (Or even accept a "back off," though the same level of grace needn't necessarily be applied.)

Even with that said, let me make it clear that I don't think the medics were wrong when they initially started healing the guy, even with no warning. I do think they were wrong when he asked them to stop and they didn't. The first was obviously an attempt to help. The second was not, no matter how we may rationalize that "it's our job, so we have to" (we don't), or "we have a right to his wounds and the XP, too" (we don't) or "their reasons for refusing our aid were selfish, so we're entitled to force it on them" (we aren't... we're able to force it on them, since they have no means of stopping us, but ability doesn't equal entitlement). As I see it, helping is our job... and we're not helping if we're not wanted.

Wow someone complainging about other people helping them heal. Never thought i would see the day, normally the "ninja healers" get a thank you because you don't have to use all your med supplies or some such thing. Wow that post wsa just kinda funny. I see your point and all but i have to agree with others that it's all about the client getting healed and not your precious med exp. Every city i've been in has never been low on injured players.

Sounds like your patients should be buying you a private hospital then.

You know.. it REALLY isn't that hard to just ask before you butt in.

I'm a medic.. and there are plenty of times where people say "thanks.. but he is our doctor"

and there are plenty of other times when they say "help is welcome, thanks"

Is thatreally that hard? Its as simple as being polite.

Hmm, dunno if the med center you all work at is lightly populated or not, but at the one in Coronet, there are pretty much two types of traffic: none at all or hourly rush. I have not really thought about 'stealing' other medic's exp before because I was a lowly medic with medpack A's, but now I'm pretty much trying to be alert if a patient does not want me to heal him or her.... however, this is pretty rare because unless the few (and more frequent now) times that medics or doctors are greater than the number of patients, you have patients coming in asking for heals, and having no clue which one is first sometimes, you just heal the closest one (or most damaged one) to get that person healed faster.

Mapl3, or whatever is his name is, seems like an idiot.

Unfortunately he's right.

I hate to be a troll, and I won't speak very eloquently even if I was one, but this argument is dumb. Someone asked someone else to stop, and they didn't. Do we really need to elaborate? (Yeah, you could make dumb arguments that have no bearing, but obviously in this case the bleeding heart crap doesn't apply.)

I agree with Brad even though I'm far less verbose.

I am an occasional "guest healer" at a couple of hospitals when I go for training, at the moment most people are used to 10-50 wound heals so when I show up and its busy and suddenly get they get a few 130 heals and are out the door it is normally appreciated.

That said, here a re a few of my personal rules for hospital healing:

1) if someone asks me for training I see if one of the medics can do the training instead, I have all the apprentice xp I need so I prefer to help a medic get his/her Masters.

2) If someone (patient or medic) asks me to stop healing I will do and I will find a different patient.

3) I try to find out who has the most sub-stat wounds and heal those as medics often don't have the meds for those.

4) If I get a tip of over cr100 or an offer of organics I pass it onto whatever medics helped me heal that patient, money is nice but at this stage in the game I have enough money and resources coming in daily to buy everything I need, maintain my house factory and harvestersand save for a nice vehicle and nicer droid.

If someone asks you to stop, no matter what it is or if it is real life or a game, you stop. End of story IMHO.

Personally, as I've already said, I don't agree with going to a med centre to get healed by a specific medic. It's not hard to get a medical droid so you can heal outside of those places and avoid issues like this.

That said, if someone asked me not to heal I would. I had a scout ask me not to the other day because he wanted the wounds for his scout xp and so I stopped.

You're saying that you weren't after the xp in this situation, so then what does it matter who heals them?
It helps get them out the door and back to fighting more quickly. What other reason is there for you not wanting others to heal them apart from the xp?.
I understand it was against the patients and your wishes, but I don't understand why.

I also have another question to clarify the situation. Did these 'Ninja' healers respond to the requests to stop?
I ask because it occured to me that they may have been crafting meds and not been able to see you're requests to cease. That is unlikely for the 2 docs that were healing, but well within reason for the 4 medics. I certainly was crafting A's in the med centre until I got the higher Organic Chemistry skills.

I'm also frankly surprised you managed to get much of a protest off with the 7 people described in your original post healing the wounded, 2 of which were docs, before the wounds were all gone and it was already too late.
