i have a 679 max laser carb, and regularly hit for over 1300 damage with either sprayshot or crippleshot. usually against kd targets tho. standing ones rarely take more than 800 a hit (then there are always those hits for 0 damage arg)

Here's the way to get it done:
1. Take the turrets outside down
2. Take down the shield
3.Very quickly (within 30 secs) take out the front gate, turret inside, and back gate inside.
4. After you have gotten inside you can sit inside the tent area and nothing will agro you. YOU ARE SAFE IN THIS AREA.
5. If you have a ranged prof with you in group, have him bring the sith inside 1 at a time if possible by shooting at 1 while he is not surrounded by a ton of sith thugs. If you have just melee prof in group it is a bit harder but it can still be done bymaking them aggro you carefully.Sit inside the tent arena area and kill the thug. Do this 5 times.
6. Capture the commander
7. Wait 1 minute for the thugs to de-spawn and then head for the village. Get there in 1 hour or else you fail.
All done
You can do this by yourself, but you don't get the mind crystal as a reward.

After doing the mission last night with a friend of mine, I do believe it is possible to complete this mission solo. Please keep in mind that a certain template would be neccessary. I am a Master Swordsman, Novice TKA, Medic 0-0-4-0. With these skills I was able to handle the mission quite well, as long as I didn't try to stay in ranged combat with the Sith Thugs, for more than a few seconds to pull them away from the base or my friend. However, one on one with a Sith Thug is not much of a challenge as long as you have good Composite armor, Syth-steak for emergencies, full buffs and a good weapon. The easiest guide to follow, which I used myself is provided below and is a copy of a post by ZIMI, which is from another topic about this quest. Make sure that you press Cntrl + M to engage the overhead map for this quest. It is an absolute neccessity. It will allow you to clearly see the Sith Thugs spawning and despawing and also the aggro in front of you on the trip back to the villiage.
ZIMI's advice for doing this quest was:
1. Take the turrets outside down
2. Take down the shield
3. Very quickly (within 30 secs) take out the front gate, turret inside, and back gate inside.
If you have just melee prof in group it is a bit harder but it can still be done by making them aggro you carefully. Sit inside the tent arena area and kill the thug. Do this 5 times.
6. Capture the commander
7. Wait 1 minute for the thugs to de-spawn and then head for the village. Get there in 1 hour or else you fail.
I have some added advice that might help. I will label it with the corresponding number to the section it refers to.
1.* Shoot the turrets with a rifle or carbine from a distance. The two outer turrets can be destroyed without having to drop the shield.
2. * Move up to the shield until it pushes you back and then slowly creep back up to a point just before it did so and dismount from your speeder or creature. Use the appropriate remote from your pack and be ready to take out the front gate quickly.
3.* You will actually only have between 10 - 20 seconds here to destroy the gate and thrid turret just inside. My friend and I only managed to destroy the front gate and had the third turret at half health when the Sith Thugs were on us. At this point I would recomend getting on your speeder and getting out of there fast. Wait for the Sith Thugs to despawn. They do this every few minutes only to respawn in about 20 - 30 seconds. So, once they despawn, move back in and take out that third turret, then move to the back and destroy the back gate. Once the back gate is down, you should be able to run inside the tent without getting aggroed. If more than one Sith Thug has aggroed you and runs inside the complex and follows you in the tent, down some Synth-steak and hop on your speeder to get away. Wait for them to despawn and then run back inside to the tent.
4.* Like ZIMI says, you're quite safe in the tent.
5.* This part is tricky, but easy if you're cautious. Walk out of the tent and around to the side of the interior base wall. Do not approach the outer gate. If you have a ranged profession and can get a good clean shot, shoot one Sith Thug and lead him into the tent where you can pummel him solo. Keep him Intimidated and Warcryed if possible, and hammer away at him with your most damaging special. If you don't want to risk agroing more than one Sith Thug (like me) carefully creep up past the side of the interior base and slowly walk up near the front gate until you see one Sith Thug pass by the gate. Try to walk out in his range of vision just long enough to aggro him, and then run back to the tent. If they ever get stuck and can't find the tent, run back out a little ways and help them pathfind to you. Then repeat the pummeling process until 5 Sith Thugs are dead.
6.* After the 5th Sith Thug is killed the Sith Commander will spawn. Capture him from the radial menu. From this moment the 1 hour timer starts.
7.* Just like ZIMI says, wait for the Sith Thugs to despawn. Once they disappear, run your butt to the villiage on foot without using burst run. Remember, the Sith Commmander has no Terrain Negotiation, so keep him close to you. Along the way pairs of Sith Pirates or Sith Outlaws will spawn and try to free the Sith Commander. Engage and kill them quickly to proceed. It is possible they may distract you from the Sith Commander and he will begin to run away in order to escape. If he does, simply run him down and recapture him through the radial menu. Simply continue killing the Sith Pirates and Sith Outlaws until you reach the base, and avoid as much Dathomir aggro as possible. If you pick one of the bases closest to Aurillia, you should make it within the time limit. I did the base at location 3500 -1200 I believe. It took us just past 35 minutes to walk him to the villiage.
Again, credit goes to ZIMI for this wonderfully simple guide that WORKS. I just added in some extra info that will help anyone who hasn't done the quest before. The ability to do this solo will depend on your playing skill, equipment, food, and template, but I believe it is possible to solo it with caution. Good luck to anyone who tries! See you in Aurillia!

More importantly...
Is it possible to do all of the Village quests alone?
I am thinking no.
I only ask because I am one of those rare birds that would like to work through becoming jedi alone so I can keep up the role-playing aspect of the profession and not out myself to everyone who does not respect a more traditional and thematic game.
I also have the awful disadvantage of being a dancer/tailor with some Pistol skills. That and I cannot devote 5+ hours a day to The Grind.
At launch, it was presented that even the casual gamer could unlock a jedi slot. I am coming to grips with that being utter bull.

Though it seems utterly cheesy, I am going to just try to make friends with people out of characterand get help. After going through the ordeal of becoming Force Sensitive, which was NOT easy for me, I want to somehow see this to the end [ read: 11 months from now

It is very possible to solo especially with a speed cap swordsman template. However, i am a slacker and so i did it with a jedi friend of mine, and it sure felt good to finally complete after it haunted me for so long.
