Thread: Removal of auto-travelling
Until the majority of players switch from their viewpoint of wanting instant gratification great ideas like this will never happen.
Balzan; "Well not if it were instanced. "
I absolutely HATE instanced MMORPGs. The trend to that in SWG is quite annoying to me.
If you want an immersive world then you need to be in the midst of other players, good and bad ones.
I played a bit of GW and the highly instanced aspect of that game is it's MAJOR drawback for me. I LIKE roaming around meeting random people, in town and out.
I say a HUGE "NO" to instanced games. Sure, the drawback is you have to put up with campers and kill-stealers but then that is part of the experience. The more I see what game designers are doing these days the more I like the old days of UO; a'frontier' world with 'frontier' justice.
Oh, and while I'm at it, I HATE the movement-restricted terrain. Another major drawback of GW is that you can't roam freely over the map, you are directed along relatively narrow 'paths'...just like on Wookie World. Bleh. I sure hope that trend in SWG doesn't continue.
The boat trip in FFXI was a nice way to travel. It was effectively a minii-game and quite fun though maybe a bit too long.

You got what you wanted with Kash and will likely get it agian with any other odd planets they add (Hoth). Leave the rest of the planets alone please.
Beside, if you are really going for immersion with the whole requiring to take-off and hyper thing, we should all be required to spend 30 minutes leaving the gravity well created by the planet we left before hitting into hyperspace, and reenter systems at about 30K from the spaceport because hypering in 2K from the spaceport and planet would be suicide.
Don't be foolish enough to demand immersion, but ignore the harsh downsides to that same immersion.
Initially I felt compelled to debate the minute details of this idea, but on second-thought, it doesn't really seem necessary. Longer waits, more hassles and increased system-load for no additional "fun-factor" just isn't practical, or very likely to see any development time.

I'm hoping that this is possible since they've now brought in the idea of instanced areas. And are supposedly working to make it a more true instance, not the 6 seperate ones we currently have on Kashyyyk for some areas.
OHH MY this has to be done... btw why keep 1 min space shuttle launchs..... the 10 min ones were great though i hated them i never asked for them to be gone cause there was some cool stuff while i waited that you just dont see espiacialy when there is no buffing in cnet and MO any more I mean the only time i see thoughs amounts in a gathering now is when we are in a pvp base raid... and well that isnt the best time to meet and chat....
(not currently a role player.. but would be if we had a server to our lonesome.. and if we did.. this is how it would have to be)

Instead of taking the negative approach of removing a feature how about a positive approach.
Add player city starports. You can't autotravel to them, you can land there from the space station.
ok true cut out the starport wait dont know what i was thinking just that the old ones wasnt so bad, but two would be bad of course doing it for submersion and being the only passanger from theed to cornet wouldnt do the trick.

That would be an interesting compromise, and the coding is already in as it is used for the Imperial Retreat and Jabba's Palace. They can only be accessed from space, and not by using Travel. Also, because it takes a quest to get there, and only those that have completed the quest can land. There is clearly a code to determine who has landing rights. This could be implimented into the /cityban code so that those banned from the city could not land while others could.
The bad thing about putting spaceports in player cities is that it wouldkill NPC cities and all the commerce around them.
At times I have missed the large gathering waiting for a shuttle. It was fun interaction. A collective annoyance that brought some people together. It allowed a quick break to run to the restroom or get a snack.
Though there is one thing to consider: if you only have an hour to play who wants to spend 30min trying to get somewhere? There are many people due to RL constraints who only have brief spurts of play time available. Plus if you ever moved from one player city on Talus to another player city on Lok and had to wait the maximum 40min just to drop off a load of stuff and return for more you do not miss the wait time.
