Thread: Removal of auto-travelling
if you dont want to wait it is easy fly your own ship.... and I still think your ship should have a cargo hold in which you can store stuff like a travling bank
this may be true but.. if you only got an hour... maybe you need counter strike or something well less involved then an mmorpg
lets not forget what the RPG stands for

I play CS. Great game for an hour or two.
RPG does not mean suck away 5 hours at a shot simply to satisfy some nerd's need for continuity in a video game. This game when it came out and while it was in beta was hyped as a casual player's dream come true. Obviously, we know this to not be true. However, some things should and will be sacrificed for the sake of playability so people can actually enjoy the 3 out of 5 hours they put in regardless.
I am not interested in a flame war, especially over something so inconsequential as travelling. The entire community griped immensely from day one about having to wait for shuttles. Majority rules. Worse, you expect people to travel mindlessly through space encountering nothing interesting just to make it more "lifelike"? Considering we're playing a fantasy sci-fi game based on a dreamed up reality, I say take the good with the bad.
Im not in a flame war, as a matter of fact this post stated in alot of its post that we knew ppl would balk at the idea but i play no more then 3-4 hrs and not always in a row some 2on2off2on kinda deals.
but i agree with you, you shouldnt "get bent" over something I liked and you didnt. I like chevys, that dont mean some ford owner should rant at me for havein that said on a sticker on my back glass.

and say I have no life and only geeks get off on such ideas, because you dont like it -it is a post-, about how I feel not a decleration or a demand to sony on-line, just a statment that I was one of the few "that if you reread" loved and hated the wait.I didnt call you names all i did was suggest another title if you only wanted to play an hour and it was a good suggestion cause you replyed you liked it for 1-2 hr intervials
When I read your post it came across to me as "if you have only an hour to play go play something else". Not to get into a flame war but that is how I interperted it.
But I don't like this idea. Adding tedium to the game does not add much to the play experience. If we were to be realistic(as much as you can in a game with hyperspace and glowsticks), it would take days to travel between planets.
There needs to be a balance between playability and realism. I remember the old days with 10 minute shuttle waits and trying to get a group together to do a hunt, and waiting for an hour at the destination for everyone to get through all the shuttle waits. Those were not the good old days
We don't lose that much by using auto travel and short shuttle wait times. The players who want to socialize tend to hang out in the starports anyway, and those who don't can get on with their business. Seems like a good compromise.
The point is not to adapt the game to a particular style of play, but to have a game where many styles of play can be fun, and to make reasonable accomodations to satisfy as many people as possible
Thanks Ashet.. I thought it was just me. ![]()
Anyways, I am loving this game right now. It's the most Star Warsy it's ever been. Why add more nonsense to it which takes away from the fun?
And I should reinforce the fact I am a hardcore gamer and a Star Wars nerd. I am a huge nerd. So hopefully no one will read my post and take it as an attack. I am however, a nerd with a wife, a career, and a 2 year old daughter. I would like to keep my job and stay married and relatively happy. The little things like those timesinks which serve no purpose to anyone save those looking for a more realistic experience can take it on the chin for those who really just want to be a part of the game.
Here's an idea...
Wait for it..
Wait fooooor it
Waaaaiiiiiiiiit foooooooooooor iiiiiiiiiit....
If you dont like the autotravel thing, dont use it.
Further, space would lag even worse than it already does...What do you think adding several THOUSAND ships loading/travelling every secondto space stations would do to it?
Why is this even in the smuggler forums anyway?

Please read the entire post again. After the Subtitle "Changes" it states a way to remove the loading screens, and the error, that is that instead of going into space they automatically hyperspace. However all players (with JtL/RotW or not), should be able to go into a PoB ship, after all Obi-Wan could sit on the bridge of the Millenium Falcon, even though he didn't do anything...
This thought has probably been brought up before, I dont know for sure. As for the being able to access your ship instead of a terminal, how about a instance for that. You talk to a droid, or terminal which instances you (and friends if a POB ship) to a landing bay type area as in Ep IV when Luke and them walked up to the Falcon. "What a piece of Junk". At least this way you could add to the RP of it, as well as make modifications to it via a terminal next to the craft. Able to board and unboard the craft to ready for takeoff. Adds a bit of RP atmosphere to the game. A freelance pilot loading on group of passengers into his YT1300 and taking off out of Mos Eisley spaceport. Now granted the code for this would undoubtably be a good sized Publish, but it would also add some of that Missing smuggler content we so desperately needed. Just a thought mind you.

OHH MY this has to be done... btw why keep 1 min space shuttle launchs..... the 10 min ones were great though i hated them i never asked for them to be gone cause there was some cool stuff while i waited that you just dont see espiacialy when there is no buffing in cnet and MO any more I mean the only time i see thoughs amounts in a gathering now is when we are in a pvp base raid... and well that isnt the best time to meet and chat....
(not currently a role player.. but would be if we had a server to our lonesome.. and if we did.. this is how it would have to be)
Ok ppl that like to post that I am aginst the casual player, look at my post, cause it is seeming like some of you are not reading my side. Look at it. were do I say I wanted this added for the casual player ..... I even added the bottom as a disclamer to imply that it is only an idealistic idea for an idealistc setting for RPing and I didnt even say that it should be implamented anywere other then a RP server and it would be easy for them to do cause they would just have to take out code, not add anything new are maintan anything. I mean dont get so bent, Id think most non RPers would also want an offical RP server so as not to have RPers getting in you way, but RPers dont even get a rep. so dont fear they are to be stuck in with the people that name there toons paris'hilton sexie'gal and want to power grind and spam "BUY MY STUFF ITS THE UBERIST" and all that jazz. So basicaly i was stating a suggestion that I knew would not see the light of day. so in closing go casualy game. still cant see how anybody can get anything done even as of current in 1 hour, but these are short easy grinds.
And i did express it was a love hate relationship so take it as I loved the idea in theory not in the actual practice.
