Thread: AI Changes

We are aware of all the concerns and opinions about the AI. We are constantly adjusting the AI to make it challenging and fun. If you have concerns about the current state of the space AI, please continue to voice your opinion. Just saying it sucks and you are going to quit your account does not get anything accomplished. If you would like to help test our AI changes, please go to Test Center and play a little (there are ship AI changes on Test Center). After playing on Test Center please, come back by, say you played there, and voice your thoughts on what you liked, did not like, and any opinions on how it should be. This will help us the most in making the AI fun for everyone.
I know some of you will complain that you have to start from scratch on Test Center. Honestly, it does not take very long to get through the first few tiers of JTL. Thanks for playing.
AI for space is now totally boring and the ships are excessively fast. I'm a Privateer at 3/4/3/3.
It's pointless to continue playing JTL when the entire time I just sit in one spot in space (Weeeee.....) and flip around to meet the enemy ships head on, and have the enemy ships charge at me and obliterate me because it's 5 on 1 and they're ridiculously faster than me. My front shield and armor are all that matter, because dogfighting in space only involves meeting a squad of enemies head-on and getting pummeled, only to turn around and have them come at you again head-on. Boooooring.
It is NOT FUN. IT IS NOT CHALLENGING. It's making me not play JTL. That's all it's doing.
Used to be that TIEs would swoop all around, and do some crazy turns, and you'd have to track 'em and keep them in your sights. Now they just ZAP ZAP ZAP your shield away because the 4 of them are all coming at you head-on, then they zip past you and turn around, and ZAP ZAP ZAP ZAP you haven't disabled one of them, but your shields are toast and your front armor is at 10%.
Does that sound like fun to you? I don't care if you're on TC or in Live, that's NOT FUN.
So, pretty please, with sugar on top - bring the fun back to JTL. Having ships run circles around you and shredding your front shield/armor while the back shield/armor is inconsequential is the height of tedium.

Yes, it depends on what you're in as well. A friend of mine has an Awing that goes 1500 with boost, and his optimum turning speed is 1002. He can keep up with the AI quite well.
So, that means that each pilot will now have to develop unique tactics. I'm wondering why that is a bad thing? People not wanting to think and strategize?
There's just not much strategy to it. I'm in a ship that can pretty much keep up with tier 4 and 5 ships without much trouble and it's just plain boring. All I do is to follow them, shooting at their very exposed rear end while they fly straight ahead. There's not much room for strategy at all...
The NPC ships need a speed nerf, they should really never be this much faster than your average player ship. These normal tier 1-5 ships are the "grunts", they shouldn't have ships that can outperform PC ships this badly. In fact, I would suggest that they should almost never outperform PC ships in this way, unless they are in a hyperfast TIE interceptor and the PC is in a B-wing.
The current speed and maneuvering would work on special, boss type NPC ships and special, elite NPC squadrons. Just not you average Joe-TIE pilot.
Duly noted and accepted.

Problem is that it takes time to raise a pilot in order to test fully high level ships.
I would love to help (what I'm doing by beeing part of the CU test team). But
For the concern about AI, it's currently boring because once in the tail of an ennemy ship it keep turning on the same side. But if you make the ennemy ships making manoeuvre (which would be cool), combats would take ages considering the armor of Tier 5 ships.
Balance has to be found between these 2 things.

Yes, it DOES take a while to get through JTL on test. Main reason?
Very few shipwrights, no money to buy ship parts. We can't just summon our ship parts like developers can.We have to track down a friendly shipwright
trust me on this one. No it doesnt take a long time, someone has a vendor with low lvl ships for 1 credit, and all the equipment youll need to get started, once in space, making money to keep up with your current lvl of pilot is simple.
so it's not as hard as you might think it is on TC
