Guess that makes me just as good as you, right.
Still, I believe that "Stuff not make one great."
Once again another thread going back and forth with no resolution. "1337 d00dz" attitudes will not be changed and so another MMORPG becomes another MMOFPS. Sad.

Can you hold your own against 2 or more in pvp? that to me tells if one is truely leet or not... I too believe pvp is the end game here (for now anyway)... its also the most fun IMO.

Guess its all subjective, hard to say whos "better" unless you are more clear.... I dunno if I'd go as far as saying RPing or bio makes one better but like I said its all subjective... IMO who has the best weapons, best loot, amount of credits, number of badges and even LEETness makes one better... but thats just MHO.
Definitely a difference of opinion. My original character is a Triple Master - MSmuggler/MPistoleer/TKM, has every badge obtainable, best weapons for my professions, a large house full of stuff, millions of credits, plus a full written Bio and RPd a nice Smuggling scenario for a new player who was asking for credits for travel so he could get where he was going, and get a hefty tip for his "work", all without just handing over credits and/or calling him "noob", for which I got RP fun and the pleasure of making his first experience in-game very enjoyable (which he told me).
My second character is a MFencer/TKM who's sole purpose is to become a Jedi. I still role-play this character, though I haven't put up his Bio or wear tags because he is a Jedi student in hiding. My RP suffers with this character because all I have time for is grinding, but it will improve once I have reached my goal. He also has armor, weapons, badges, credits, etc.
I am NOT "LEET".
So, as a casual gamer who plays maybe 10 hours a week on average, I meet your criteria for "better", so I guess time doesn't matter, does it, casual gamers can be just as "good" as powergamers. Plus I also work to be a good Role Player, which meets my criteria for being "better". If more people did this, the game would be so much more than it is.
You sound pretty LEET to me.. in the pve sense anyway.
That's good enough for me. PvP is not on my important list of "things to do". If it comes to me, I handle it, but I do not seek it out. I have plenty of enjoyment in the game without it. This is not an FPS, this is an RPG, PvP is not the object of this game. Playing a character in the Star Wars Universe is.
I'll stop now before this becomes yet another Pve vs. PvP thread.

I am not questioning your enjoyment, I'm willing to bet we have a lot in common asI also enjoy helping newbies as much as possible cus I remember being in their shoes, I'm just letting others know the harsh reality of being/leveling jedi... I think everyone should try it and see what they think but It will not be enjoyable to the majority and especially if they don't get to game very often... and unfortunately this turns off a lot of people from swg all together and they end up canceling their accounts.

Maybe the analogy was poor, but it illustrates why time invested is so important. You spend more time, you get more rewards. I camp Axkva Mihn more than you do, I get more shot at loot. I spend more time killing Krayts than you do, I get more pearls. You spend more time RP'ing...I guess...you entertain yourself...but you're going to lose in PvP to me, which IS the end-game, whether you like it or not.
Read back to the original Jedi archives...it was said a few times that Roleplayers would be discouraged with the life of a Jedi and would not do well.
You play better than me?
- How would you know that with me being on Chilastra and you being on Ahazi?
- Even if the two of us were on the same server, what would be the criteria to determine who 'plays better' than the other?
- What in the Hell do you know about the game that isn't being made readily availible to anyone with displaying real intelligence and reviewing the tons of information readily availible to anyone via the forums. Including people not playing SWG.
If you want to make comparisons based on time investment, fine. You spend3-6 hourshitting the same key repetively to receive a text message food pellet pat on the back. I spend3-6 hours withmy girlfriend doing things the board filters and mods won't let me describe to receivea nice, pleasantly exhausted feeling, a satisfied smile on my face and a 10.0 for Originality from the judges.
Sorry bub, only in a game can you believe you are better than that. Everywhere elseIR T3H Winneh!
You seriously need to both grow up and reevaluate priorities. Only a seriously delusional person would believe that their advancement in a game makes them better in anything except situations where direct competition is involved. Which with you being on Ahazi and me being on Chilastra automatically renders impossible and makes you deserving of the not-so-subtle flame inherent in this post.
Dont take it personally but Im willing to bet he is better, he could probably kill krayts faster, pvp better, sell more high end loot, make more money faster, etc.... There will always be someone better than you, just learn to live with it.
Do take this personally but I'm willing to bet you have no idea what it means to be better than someone in any realcompetitive sense. I've played soccer since I was 6. There wereteams that practiced longer and more often than my team did. Were they 'better' than us? The scoreboard didn't think so.
Or to put it in terms you can understand, say he can kill a krayt 30 seconds faster than I can. According to your line of thought, he's better than me. What if I take less damage doing so? What if I can do so with less investment of credits/time aquiring items to do so? And you really shouldn't even go remotely near the topic of credit income. If he invests 3 hours doing doing solo misions prior to the mission payout nerf to make 750k-1m credits and I invest an hour maintaining harvesters, collecting the resources and crafting a finished product to make the same amount of credits, who is 'better'?
Your mentality is commonly found in disgruntled Cashier Leads at McDonalds who can't understand why when another person got promoted to Asst. Manager when they put in twice as many hours as they did. They simply can't comprehend that Quantity isn't better than Quality.

BTW...wtg on the rl personal insults...what's that about? I have a job and go to school, but I still have plenty of time to game. So now we're turning this into 'I'm a better person in life than you are!!!!' Wow...get a grip. I'm giving you facts...powergamers play more and get better equipment/loot, and therefore are better than you. That's just how MMO's are, whether you like it or not. If you want to be better than someone with skill, go play CS or Halo.

I started this thread last night, after 3 posts i went to bed, wake up and 3 pages long. Not even going to bother reading all of your crap insults. Once again glad to see people can be constructive, makes me wonder the type of people that play this game.
One moron even threw in something about working at McDonalds... amazing how personal some people take this game.. even the "so called" casual gamers.

I see what your trying to say...but its coming off all garbled. We are two different sorts of players. You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of what RP means.
Ask your self this, why do people still play Master Smugglers? Theres no content, the skills are weak, without Master Pistoleer youll have an unbearable accuracy. There is not reason as far as creds, uber skills, etc to play a smuggler. Yet, there are many of us, those with the longest time in the prof do it not for the skills but for the persona.
Entertainers, Dancers, Musicians, IDs, none of these profs pay well, and yet...hundreds of people log on every single day and activly play them...why? They cant kill a Kryat Dragon, cant PVP, hell cant even PvE.
Is it so difficult to understand that some people, actually very many, many more than activly participate in the GCW or PVP log on every night to play their rolls in the Star Wars Galaxy universe?
Still dont get it?
There are several Jedi skills that are generally not taken, Master Healer, Master Enhancer, non-master LS, why wouldnt these be valid templates? Dont you see that the "game" doesnt necessarily have to be PvP, it can be the avoidance of conflict as instructed by the Jedi Masters in the movies.
Are these types of game play invalid in your eyes?

I understand what you're saying. I used to be the type of player who hoped for content and a real means for interaction amongst players. It's not there. Solo groups, solo'ing elders, krayts, buying another account for mind/doc buffs, etc. It's just the mentatlity that this game has gone forth. I'd much rather have other ways of playing this game, but they're not available to me. Why do people play those professions you mentioned...hm...I honestly don't know. I feel for them because they are even in a MUCH worse situation than Jedi...Jedi have had publishes dedicated to them with quick fixes, whereas smugglers have sat onand on waiting for action. Why do they play...I guess they truly enjoy their profession, but I can't understand why. If it was my intention to play this game as a dancer, I would be disgusted with the current situation and I wouldn't bother playing. Jedi at least gives me the motivation of grinding it all out and staying at the top of my PvP game. So to answer that, I have to say that I honestly don't know why they play..I think they'd have more fun elsewhere.
My posts are not really meant to be flammatory, but I guess I just can't understand why anyone would want to seriously attempt a Jedi casually. I just don't see it as being possible. I think if I were to play this game casually and grind Jedi...let's say...perhaps maybe 1-2 hours a day? Sounds about reasonable I guess, dunno. Anyhow, if I were to only play that much, I would be seriously hindered in what I would be able to do and how repetative the game would get. I'd have to spend a huge chunk of my time developing another character to get loot and make money, or two characters...one for loot, one for money. Either way, the time sink would be disgusting. And to make it worse, were I a casual player interested in roleplaying, how would I feel once I spent MANY months of leveling while trying to RP only to find out at the end that there is nothing but PvP? I just can't see why anyone would dedicated themselves to Jedi unless they were truly interested in PvP. That's all.

Yup, if you have stuff, you're good in this game. Does it take much skill to use a 500str mind fire lance and kill people? Doubtful. But that's what happens. Does it take much skill forme to beat someone with an all -9 50/50 crystal saber compared to the opponent with a saber using -7's and much less damage? Not really. Sure, there are areas where skill is involved, but it's not really 'skill.' It's just being prepared and being aware of your surroundings and what your opponents have. I wouldn't compare that to the twitch skill involved in CS or Halo.
If you want to call it 1337 d00d attitutde, go ahead. I like being competative...doesn't make me a bad person or a jerk, it's just what my goal is.

Although i realize this is a harsh thing to say... it is true. In regards to the post about 30:1 ratio, I agree with it and think that jedi should be a long and painful grind. many say that this makes it impossible for some players to get jedi... thats the idea, not everyone is supposed to have one it is supposed to be special.
Like it has been stated before, i would hate to see 50 jedi running around on a server that are all casual players. Some say that there are already tons of jedi and that this way to unlock is easier than the old way. Now that depends. Many people are turned off by the grind and don't bother when they get the numbers on how long it would take. For others, it motivates them, that there is an end in sight and they have an idea of how far they are.
Now before everyone flames and posts that they hate me keep in mind that I am not a jedi yet (will be next phase), and that I speak only from my opinion. Yes it does suck for more casual players that want a jedi.. but honestly the jedi grind is much longer and more boring than this one(from what i have heard from multiple friends), so jedi isn't as beautified as it appears to be. I want to hear the points of others though so let it begin! Let me remind everyone that this is not a flame and it is just a conversation as to unlocking jedi... please keep flames at a minimum.

Honestly I'd rather see the casual gamers be Jedi than the current crop of leetboi powergamersthathadthe stamina for mind-numbingly stupid repetitive action that should certify them as a danger to society at large in their insanity.
Hate to see "50 jedi running around on a server that are all casual players"? You know jack about casual players. They're the ones you'd most likely never see. Short of wearing a profession tag, recognizing a Jedi means Visibility. Visibility means Bounty Hunters. Casual Players fair poorly in MMOG PvP. They do not farm every uber item in the game to give them that +5 extra accuracy. They do not min/max and cookie cutter their character into a competent PvP contender. Most casual players are Anti-PvP especially when PvP penalties cost them the little time they could invest in their character.
Most casual players wouldprobablylike to earnalightsaber (just oneand not 3-6 that they went through 10-30 krayt pearls trying to make 'perfect'),roleplay thequiet hermit living out in the middle of nowhere and pray that SOE would give them a piece of content that would let them act like a Jedi. I would personally see that as an improvement over the "Duel me!" dime a dozen Jedi I see in Coronet, Dantoine Mining Outpost, Theed and any place where they can be doing anything and everything to MAKE SURE THEY'RE SEEN.
Slam someone else. It's a safe bet you're not taking the hard route to Jedi yourself. How many crates of grenades have you gone through so far?
Thanks for the flame, could have been presented with a little less insult. I tried the hologrind, 23 profs and no unlock ran out of time before pub 9 came out. I'm not slamming anyone here and I still hold that jedi isn't for everyone, and if any old player can get it... then every player will get it. (not every obviously but ALOT)
Wheres the fun in that I ask? no matter what the power gamers will grind out and be jedi. You can't be realistic and say you would prefer just casual players to have it.
