The TIE Defender was still in R&D at the current stage of the GCW, the prototypes saw some action in the outer rim a few months before the battle of Endor. The Tie Defender was a highly specialised and expensive ship, and many of the prototypes were lost in action. By the time of the battle of Endor the few remaining Defenders had been placed in storage for future research. Hence the Defender never became a frontline fighter.

Also in game terms the Defender would be unbeatable by other fighters or would need to be nerfed to no end for balance. Overall the Defender would not be a good choice to add to JTL IMO.

The B-wing is also still in development at this time frame. Hence they aren't following the time line very well. In fact we didn't see A-wings until Return of the Jedi. But if you go back to the Xwing Games we did see A-Wings at the beginning.

Completly true. As far as I recall, there were no more then 4 B-wings at the Battle of Endor. Project Shantipole (Any who played X-wing will remember this :smileyhappythe B-wing's R&D codename, was some time between The Empire strikes back and Return of the Jedi. If we are talking about vessel production then we should also mention that at this stage the TIE Advanced was still an experimental fighter (Being developed by Admiral Zaraan), based on Darth Vadar's modified TIE fighter. It was not in combat service pre Battle of Hoth.

Like the ROTW ships didn't completely unbalance JTL anyways

Why not introduce it has a special prototype with the same looking but a bit nerfed because of partial only schematics found during a quest for master imperial pilots?

I want a non-nerfed TIE Defender because every Rebel pilot needs to realize the true might of the Empire the hard way.

You see? This is what I am talking about... you guys will never get the TIE/D with that attitude a 6 gun point monster is out of the question... and massivly overkill I might add... 3 guns are plenty the most I know of is 4 and that tends to be mor of a chore to set up than anything.

A-wings and B-wings were both developed before Hoth. Check your timeframes again. A-wing prototypes would be flying at our current spot in time, though the B-wing probably wouldn't be quite yet. The TIE Defender, on the other hand, wasn't even a prototype until post-Hoth.

you know what would be cool....if you get the option to take a mission for a Imperial Research and Development station in a isolated space sector. No near by planets, no near by random spawns of pirates and such....just lots and lots of Imperial ships. A certain Star Destroyer named "Glory", a new type of station that looks like its part factory. Lets call it Research Station Obsidian...you are given clearance to fly to the station if you are an Imperial Ace Pilot. Once at the station you are cleared to land and actually land on the station and given a escort to see the officer in charge of the station's operations.

Lets call this officer, Grand Admiral Zaarin. The name may ring a few bells for old veterans. Hes heard of your recent achivements, taking out a rebel corvette, earning Ace status. Impressed with your service record he offers you a job helping test development of advanced TIE starfighter designs. Starting out with simple advanced versions of the basic TIE Fighter and progressing to the newly designed TIE Avenger, a newprogression of the older advanced TIE x1 used by Vader. After missions testing the performance and combat effectiveness of the Avenger, Zaarin further impressed by your ablities and very pleased with increaseing effectiveness of his advanced TIE designs offers to let you test a top secret prototype TIE class starfighter.

Enter the TIE Defender. Zaarin tasks you with proving the combat and general performance of this fighter. You are assigned to his personal squadron and will be undertaking covert operations...that at times seems to be quite questionable in helping the Imperial War Effort...after a couple of missions ashadowy figure approachs you.

This person, informs you that they are here at the personal request of the Emperor and you, due to your loyalty to the Empire and your excellent performance as a TIE Pilot was brought to the attention of Grand Admiral Zaarin so that he would ask for your transfer to this station. They tell you that they are a special envoy, here to root out officers not loyal to the Emperor. That Zaarin has so far foiled there attemps to gain further information on his operations here....

Thus the plot thickens as you attempt to uncover traitors, lies and even an attempt to kill the Emperor. In the end, you earn the certification to fly the TIE Avenger and TIE Defender starfighters...a seperate quest here for shipwrights could provide them the ablity to learn the schematics to make these new fighters like the RIS armor quest.

Most the above is taken from the old Lucas Arts game, TIE Fighter. Station Obsidian, the ISD Glory (Zaarin's personal ISD)and of course Admiral Zaarin are all introduced in the told TIE Fighter game and he even attempts to kill the Emperor not long before the battle of Endor.

TIE Fighter had such an awsome story line in it!

TIE Fighter is, quite simply, the best space sim ever made. Lucasarts should still be proud of such a great title. If they could capture the TIE Fighter feel in JTL you couldn't drag me from the cockpit

I played TIE fighter as well, and as a rebel I was rather worried about the introduction of a TIE Defender, either it would be the end-all-be-all of any ship, or it would be maimed horribly in the effort to balance it.

As it stands now, there is absolutely no way to balance it and keep it a "real" TIE Defender

this is a ship that can outrun/outmanuver anything period and has the firepower of a heavy fighter

And no, I don't want a reb/freelance equal and implement the 3, just leave the TIE Defender where it belongs, as a legendary fighter

I think I remember they went from saying "you will be flying A TIE Defender" to saying "you will be flying YOUR TIE Defender" in the TIE fighter game
