As it stands now, there is absolutely no way to balance it and keep it a "real" TIE Defender

this is a ship that can outrun/outmanuver anything period and has the firepower of a heavy fighter

And no, I don't want a reb/freelance equal and implement the 3, just leave the TIE Defender where it belongs, as a legendary fighter

I think I remember they went from saying "you will be flying A TIE Defender" to saying "you will be flying YOUR TIE Defender" in the TIE fighter game

Then give me MY TIE Defender. I promise not to kill rebels 24/7 with it. More like 4/7 or so. And look at the game now. Do you really believe the devs care about balance?

Of course, I just want my TIE Defender. Right now. Besides, you Rebels win this war in the end. Why can't we Imps have fun while the Empire lasts?

Personally, I believe it should also be available, for master pilots only and via a quest for those in the empire. No faction points required, but something story based and involved - not necessarily tough, just progressive so that a casual player would take a few weeks. A few tweaks and it would be a good forerunner for space domination, but since a lot of things are pilot based and not necessarily "uber" just because you have it -- it's not going to be unbeatable. Mass would be a good way to restrict it (within reason) or because it was a prototype, you could have multiple quests that have non-replaceable components for some of it such as the armor and ion cannons.

So 2 or 3 different quests for variations and you'd have some story content, different kinds of pilots, and some proud owners of a decent space ship for fights in the deepest parts of space.

It's not like you can't come up with some old Clone Wars era technology that was modified or something for the Alliance and Neutral parties....

and to sidestep to the discussion of the "Tie Fighter" game -- they should remake it with updated graphics and engine for XP and new video card users. The story was great, it still is fun - but it's aged and could be vastly improved (and perhaps a mission creator for those wanting to make some fun multiplayer based missions).

Star Wars isn't dead, but some 'people' certainly are causing others to wince at their implementation ...

maybe not have the actual TIE Defender in game, but atleast the TIE Avenger. And add some of the awsome plot and story from TIE Fighter and X-wing into SWG. Especially now that its proven they can make boardable stations.

As for B-wings and A-wings in the timeline, if you ever played the old X-wing game and its two expansions they had both the A-wing in the first game and later in the expansion they added in the B-wing leading up to the main base moving to Hoth. You actually got to take part in discovering Hoth even. Was very interesting story line.

I think you're missing the point of what he means by "YOUR" Defender. The Defender was never mass produced, some 200-300 at most I'd say. Many of these Defenders were under the control of Admiral Zaarin and were slowly lost through attrition during his powerplay against the Emperor. Shortly before Zaarins death only 3 Defenders remained in Royalist Imperial control, the Emperor himself ordered them secured on Coruscant untill such time as they could resume construction (The origional factories for Defender construction were destroyed by Admiral Zaarin). The Last Defender went out of active service some 3-4 weeks before the battle of Endor. In the aftermath of the GSW the Imperial remnant did not have the facilities to resume work on such exspensive projects like the defender, Kuat Drive Yards and Sienar Fleet Systems were under New Republic control. Sygnus Spaceworks had taken a severe beating at the hands of Admiral Zaarin and never fully recovered.

Putting the defender into JTL wouldn't work, even if it was hard to get. Eventually too many people would get it and fly nothing else. If people thought the Actis and Belbullap caused balance problems then the Defender would destroy balance once and for all.
