This is a vital ship that is missing from the Empires roster of space fighters. http://www.starwars.com/databank/starship/tiedefender/
Remembering back from playing the original Tie Fighter, this ship was a vital weapon in the Empires fight against the rebellion.

It's also worth noting that timeline-wise the TIE Defender wasnt developed until well after the timeframe of SWG [the infinite in-between between ANH and ESB. The Defender meanwhile was developed after ESB]. Second of course is the fact that there were only a few squadrons EVER produced, most of which were under the traitorous Admiral Zarrin [The Empire itself only had six ships until after the Battle of Endor, after which production nearly ceased in favor of TIEs favored by specific warlords, and Shielded TIE Interceptors [cheaper to make than a TIE Avenger with most of the benefits]

It would be great to see imperial pilots flying around in those, gets my vote for the next imp ship to be added.

Give it to the Imps. Heck, if B-Wings are in service now, there's no reason why a Tie Defender shouldn't be around, anyway. And it's not as if the Defender would be overpowered compared to a Jedi Starfighter. Balance, shmalance...

Remebering from the movies, such a ship didn't exist. But I have to agree with the other points here - the EU sources don't have the Defender being a part of the Imperial fleet at all in large quantities. They were just too expensive. However, the B-wing development began right after Yavin. It was Ackbar's pet project.
Yes that is true but the B-wing didn't come into service untill after the battle of Hoth. i'd love to have a lamba class shuttle, just hope it has a tail gun and 2 forward mounted guns

The TIE Defender was still in R&D at the current stage of the GCW, the prototypes saw some action in the outer rim a few months before the battle of Endor. The Tie Defender was a highly specialised and expensive ship, and many of the prototypes were lost in action. By the time of the battle of Endor the few remaining Defenders had been placed in storage for future research. Hence the Defender never became a frontline fighter.
Also in game terms the Defender would be unbeatable by other fighters or would need to be nerfed to no end for balance. Overall the Defender would not be a good choice to add to JTL IMO.

Trust me, if they did put the Defender in JTL and made it operate at the true specs it would be the hardest fighter in space. Also there is no Rebel or Freelanceanalog for the Defender so balance would be destroyed.
