you still dont get it... The Point in a Star wars RPG is to get as close to Exactness in the Story and timeline as possible... the days are only faster so that it doesnt take 12 hrs till night fall to be over... (doh) and no one wants to hear a Mansvoice on aRodian character I wanna hear ("nye' chuba" nye'').... as far as *need* for Voice Communication in JTL... it wouldnt be bad but it takes the concept out of being a different race! or talking to a different race... only a real RolePlayer understands that, and would sacrifice Voice Chat for a Better RP Experience, as far as Roleplaying in SWG goes, no one does it as much as a MMORPG Player should.... I am sick of hearing everyone take advantage of the Devs time with pointless Things such as Voice Chat, if they wanna make something new they should make it to reflect on the Roleplaying parts or JTL, cause it all needs to be worked more into....

I wish things could be as cool as you want them to be, I really do. However, perfection is not realistic. If space combat were like ground combat then I would not be on a campaign for Voice Chat. Space combat is going to be twitch based combat, there won't be as much time to dedicate the roleplaying aspect. It encourages me to see someone who is so passionate about roleplaying because it can be an incredible amount of fun. It seems to me that I would be able to get into a role better if I could say things instead of type them. Inflections, pauses, tones of urgency, etc etc... these things come through so much easier with voice than with typing on akeyboard. I feel that these advantages far outweigh the "lack of depth" caused by hearing someone speak with a Boston accent instead of a Bothan accent.

Only a true Star wars fan would understand... *sigh* The devs have done a Great job already, in a few years this game will be the best MMORPG ever, and then we can all do whatever it is we ever wanted to ever do in the Galaxy... Endless possibilitys are still available to the Development making the whole game a Open slate... and if we ever got Voice Communication... would'nt you think it would be dumb using it in Space alone? hmm... i wonder if most will ever go back on foot now that you can talk to wookies that have human voices and dont *growl* ....see where im getting at? its the most unlikely thing ever, and I have a Great imagination... i just dont like things that mess with the RP aspect of SWG, and if they ever Implemented this into the system, im sure they would take there time and *grumble Rodese,Bothese,Wookie and all sorts of languages into the system as default grunts and grumbles....

Mando, how much RPing and "realistic" is it for someone to shout...in space mind you..."d00d I pwned you!!! N00b!!"??

It's great to champion the cause of RPing in this game, but you are taking a high and mighty stance on a very minute infraction upon it. You claim to be a true fan, and sit on a soap box pontificating how perfect the devs have done with the timeline and EU, but I don't see that level of detail at all. You must not be as knowledgable a fan as you claim, if you cannot grasp the glaring disparities between SWG timeline and Movie/EU timeline. All I need say is a few words and you should rip your hair out screaming "this shouldn't be happening now!!" Here goes: Jedi, Thrawn, Naboo, B-Wings/A-Wings, Hyperspace TIE's, Corellia, Nightsisters....should I go on?? All these things are waaay out of sync with known Star Wars timeline.

Oh and just for the record, no I have never seen a Bothan speaking Bothan in a Star Wars movie...and neither have you.

No, Nightsisters were formed i think 10,000 years ago by a Jedi named Allya, She was banished on Dathmir as a result of a Jedi Fault, and formed a group of Fallen Jedi... It was in a book that was wrote after ROTJ i believe....

Just soI have this straight, are you telling us that you play SWG without knowing any languages so that everytime someone types something in a different language it comes through as that language? If you don't then your above statement is hypocritical. And if it, are you RPing that your character isn't smart enough to learn a different language? Do you communicate with everyone you encounter only in native tongue so that you and they have no idea what is being said unless they change their languages? Do you demand that everyone unlearn extra languages so you can feel more immersed?

If you do,I would say you are in such an infintesmal minority, it is not worth mentioning. I am all for RPing, but not everyoe plays the game the same. The only "real" way to RP in space would be to use voicechat to simulate speaking ship to ship through a communicator. That is the foundation of the racial communication you so demand. Without that foundation, talking in space is fundamentally impossible and far more non-immersice then people speaking in normal voices.

Something to think about now that the thread has digressed a bit.

Let's get back on track, we want an SOE designed voicechat system for use in space. If that task is too much, an official SOE sanction of 1 third party program would be sufficient (hopefully bundled with the JTL software). I am yet to hear a good reason why not to have it in one form or the other.

Mandalorian, the devs already stated they want to put fun over continuity. A language barrier, not being able to understand my friends, doesn't sound like too much fun. I applaud you however trying to make SWG as close to the StarWars saga as possible. However, trying to type chat bubbles in space, and dying because of it, doesn't seem too much fun.

Also, if u are really saying you want this to stay true to the continuity..... I didn't see Han and Luke communicate using a keyboard in the gunner turrets on the falcon, I saw headsets, so they are able to communicate fast and without hinding their time to blast the ties.... If they used keyboards, i'm sure the falcon would have been toast.
