Thread: Joystick
Not trying to hijack the thread - this is related:
I've been flying with a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro for a year or so and am relatively happy - need to reset it by unplugging the USB outside game to center it more frequently than I'd prefer; that's my biggest complaint.
However my big question centers around: I Recently met a multi-ace pilot that swears that in the SWG implementation a mouse is far superior to the joystick. Is this a commonly held belief? I haven't flown with the mouse since just after JTL launched.
Thanks!

I have used every brand of joystick out there. I am using a Logitech right now and it works just fine. No real complaints. Could I do better.........maybe. But I am always looking for ways to improve my flying and my enjoyment.
As far as mouse and keyboard being superior I think that depends on the person. Some people just do better with that arrangement. I prefer a stick. One of the guys I have PVPed against several times swears by the mouse and keyboard.
Cyd Outlander

Shipwright
Everything else is filler

I've only ever used a joystick for JTL. I don't know how else i could fly. BUT i did read i think it was onIGN's review of JTL that the flight portion was designed based on Keyboard and Mouse and not joystick. This was done in order to not make people have to go buy extra hardware to JTL.
i couldn't do it. Thats haft the fun. You hand getting tired from gripping that stick for hours at a time.
...i meant flying pervs! ![]()
Yes, agree that the saitek cyborg evo (wireless) is an excellent first joystick, solid, rudder control, thrust control and sufficient programmable buttons. I now have the saitek x-52 and this is fantastic, however sometimes the addional software goes wonky and interfers with the mouse control which moves the mouse pointer all over the screen. a bit ofa pain when in the middle of a fight and your cross hair disappears and you are not sure what view you are looking from. this is cured by unplugging the usb cable and plugging it back in.
my choice is saitek cyborg evo or the x-52

Purely a matter of personal taste bud... I flew with a mouse until right before I aced... I prefer the joystic now but it took getting used to.
If you do go mouse spend som money and get a good one. (the Logitech MX-1000 is a great mouse)

One of the best pilots I know swears by a mouse, but most pilots (myself included) stick with joysticks.

I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I've had it for about 4 months now and no problems although the roll is a bit more sensitive on one side than the other. I love it... it is pretty stiff but not too stiff and it lossed up in the first couple of days of use and has been perfect since then. Plus I love the 12 buttons plus hat switch.
Give it another 3 months at the most, if your a hardcore pilot you will see the problem very soon.
