Thread: Joystick
As for mounting X45... its base is big and heavy enough and I never had a problem with that aspect...
fly much yet, but I didn't have any problems getting
it to work. Still have to decide what commands to
assign to the buttons though, so many to chose from.

I have a Saitek Cyborg EVO - seems like a decent stick.
EVO Force here. I use mine left handed so the Cyborg is a must. I turn off the in-game "force feedback" but I like the adjustable spring return on the EVO Force. I have 4 different setting depending on the ship I am flying.
I got mine from Saitek the week it came out..
I recently purchased the Siatek X52 setup after my trusty Microsoft 3D Pro bit the dust. (after years of trouble free use I might add /mourn) The X52 does take some time getting used to, but I think I am better with it now then I ever was with the MS 3D Pro. It is very accurate, and there are tons of settings to customize this to your personal taste. The quality is excellent and there are plenty of buttons for just about any function you can think of adding. I would recommend that you drop and regrind at least one squadron so that you can get familiar with it though. I highly recommend the X52 to any serious pilot.
One of the things I did to make it easier to use was purchase a 9x18 by ½ inch thick piece of Acrylic with a very soothe surface that I can attach the controllers to with the suction cups they are supplied with. (got it on Ebay) Then I can set the entire control set up right in my lap without worrying about them slipping around or taking up limited room on my desk. Doing this provides a very stable platform, and still gives you access to the keyboard for tells and the like.

I have a wingman force3d
Decent stick, and I like being able to designate one key as shift.
I messed up the twist early on, though, and can only sometimes calibrate it to something reasonable.
If you ahve the same stick as I do, avoid calibrating by going in to the properties screen and moving the stick through the full range of motion. The feedback system may have chosen a new zero point that doesn't match the joystick, and doing this may get it to re-zero the motors without having to re-zero the sensors.
I have an old Cyborg 2000, and would still be using it, but I wanted the twist handle. I love ambidextrous items.

The original shipping X-52s had a giant manufacturing defect (although they said it was an intentional design) that gave it a massive dead zone. I started out with one of those, but was able to get it replaced with the new version which has no dead zone at all.
Any idea how to check if the version is good before buying? Is there a modification number or anything?
One thing to note is that to use the roll fucntion easliy - you need to have decent sized hands
I have used the following sticks for JTL
Microsoft Sidwinder 3d pro 8/10
Saitek Cyborg 3D gold 8/10
Saitek Cyborg Evo 6/10 (lasted about 5 months before the pots went wonky)
Logitech Extreme 3D pro 9/10
Saitek X-52 10/10![]()
All these stick have 3 axis on the joystick which I think is essential.
