Thread: So I bought a joystick...

I use two buttons mapped to roll (top of the stick, above the firing button) rather than a twist for fear that the roll would otherwise engage too frequently when I didn't want it to. Is this a problem, or are the twist sticks better behaved than that?

From what I've come to experience, they are better behaved than that.
Though, I suppose it's all in how you control them yourself.
Sloppier control could lead to that... if you don't go with a twist stick, what you're doing is certainly a good option... at least that's what I would do.

I love having the twist control and I have had zero problems with that.

I wish i still could use my force feed back side winder but my comp doesnt have a game port. Also microsoft discontinued the drivers. So i settled with the cyborg evo.

Since XP the drivers are included in the OS forthe Sidewinder's. Same stickI use and I love it, too bad they dont make them anymore. As for the port you can get one cheap ive got atleast 5 laying around I think most MB manufactures throw them in when you buy a new MB. Or you can get one of these http://www.sfcable.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?page=SC/PROD/72/UB30-40

In an interview with the New York Times, Nancy MacIntyre, senior director for SWG at LucasArts states, “We wanted more instant gratification: kill, get treasure, repeat. We needed to give people more of an opportunity to be a part of what they have seen in the movies rather than something they had created themselves."

There's another option other than just joystick or mouse:

I give you..The Trackball!

It does take some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it you gain all the benefits of the mouse without ever having issues about running out of space on your desk to move your mouse

Do you, or anyone else, have any problems with the throttle control being in the middle of the base instead of to the side?
It's just a complaint that I read from a few reviewers and I could see how that would be annoying...

I use an Extreme Logitech 3D Pro myself and I love it... except when it starts getting screwy on me and I have to unplug it and throw it through the window before it starts working properly again.

So, do any of you find the Cyborg's Throttle control to be poorly located?

That was a minor annoyance for me yes, for about an hour or two which is what it took me to get used to it and a couple of days until it felt natural... offcourse as with all things concerning ergonomics, this is highly personal.

Does anyone know if the playstation style analog controlers work alright for this game??

I have one and would save some money if I got one of those instead of buying a new one and slow quiestion about the controllers, do you have to switch them on and off in options or can you just set up space to use controler and have the mouse and keyboard when ground play... or do i have to plug in the controller everytime i need to go in space.

I gotta ask -- what does roleplaying have to do with first person vs. third person view? Besides, this is an MMORPG, we should be RPing all the time. =) Are you saying you don't RP when your on a mission or in PvP combat?

I've never been able to use third person view, personally, no matter what I'm doing. Gotta be first all the way. Besides, it's more immersive that way. =)

Heh. Nothing more than personal preference. Playing in 3rd person is easier for me in combat. When I'm just flying around doing non-combat RP, I like to be in first person with the ship cockpit visible.

Cedara, the game should see the game pad just like a joystick.

I believe you can have a joystick/game pad plugged in and switch back and forth as you need to.

As a matter of fact, I use a PSOne controller, so yes.

You can find ps-to-USB converters on ebay rather cheap. I got mine (a 2 port) for about $5.

Yes, you can have mouse, keyboard and joystick all in and it will automatically switch between, or, more accurately, it will accept input from the joystick as well as keyboard+mouse while in space
