I completely refuse to go into SWG rant mode, but let me just say this. Any MMORPG where you can master just about 'any' job within a week of decent playing time is plainly put, a failure.

I completely disagree with this. It makes it so much better. Instead of the person who spent more time grinding always winning, the person who has more skill is able to win. That way someone who only plays a few hours a week, can master a profession and stand his ground against someone who plays everyday non stop.

Sorry Fox I did not say that I responded to that Yeoman77 said that, I mentioned EQ berserker class folks leveled it out in 3 days on my server, which is why I disagreed with the same post you did.

Here is the story as I understand it from various press releases and news stories:

1: SoE develops and operates the SWG and its servers in the USA while paying a license fee to the producer, Lucas Arts. SoE also must get aproval for just about everything in the game from Lucas Arts.

2: EAKK (Electronic Arts Japan) + Lucas Arts will soon be running a new set of SWG servers in Japan. This will be a fully localized Japanese version of the game and will be a combo package of 'An Empire Divided' + 'Jump to Light Speed'. Yes that's right, this was officially announcment by Lucas Arts - and this right here is probably the source of this entire rumor.

3: Lucas Arts has been laying off it's internal development staff and either canceling or farming previously interal titles to external developers. LucasArts is just the producer. In the case of SWG, it already has an external developer, SoE. SWG already fits the new Lucas Arts buisness model. Besides, how will Lucas Arts take over SWG development when they just laid off their internal devs?

4: SoE fronted the expense of development for both SWG and JTLS. They will not simply give it up and accept the loss of money on JTLS' year+ development period on the eve of it's release(JTLS was in development while SWG was still in beta - they even had a space expansion video in circulation before SWG was released.). Official press releases put SWG's currentpopulation at more then half a million registered users with as many as 100,000 online at a single time. JTLS is expected to add a lot more paying subscribers. SoE knows it is the one thing many people are waiting on and it is based on one of the most successful Star Wars game series in history(X-Wing/Tie fighter series). Episode III is also expected to increase demand for Star Wars games, and thus the number of people subscribed to SWG. How many companies do you know that will just give up a 7+ million dollar a month product after they had paid a large deal of money to create it? Especially when it has to potential to grow into a 10+ million dollar product in the following months.

Conclusion: I see one of two possibilities. Electronic Arts takes over totally on development while paying a huge fee to SoE, or SoE continues development and EAKK just does translation for the Japanese version. I personally believe it will be the latter. Either way Lucas Arts remains basically where they are in the grand scheme of things; the game's producer, not it's developer.

No one actually knows what the SOE-LA contract actualy states, in fact I know very little of the business factors between the two. THough there is one thing that Lucasarts will be able to do, and that's to actually have some Star Wars continuiuty instead of just being a game that just happens to have Star Wars in it's title...

I want Lucas Arts to take over, even if it means no game for 6 months...

The exact terms, maybe not sure they disclose that info, but I know 100% that SOE owns the intelectual rights to the SWG game, and if Lucas and SOE split the game we play now will be gone, and unless LA has been working on a new one, it will take 3-5 years from the storyboards to code setup the infrastructure and test a new game, this is basic to the industry. SOE bought the right to the title Star Wars and any copyrights associated with producing a game based on Star Wars and LA issued that licence but does not retain rights to said property, it would have cost them too much money and is highly unorthadox.

What proof do you have LA would do a better job? Zero I mean folks complain about epi 1-3 written by G.L, and the changes to epi 4-6, so if Mr. Lucas gets complaints, how could anyone get it right? This is daydreaming, Hypothetically, one year or less after LA comes out with a game like this there would be complaints about how they screwed up the game, it's never ending.

Lastly it wont be 6 months, oh no try 3-5 years. 6 months would mean LA has been working on it since BEFORE SOE came out with SWG, and that is simply silly.

Unfortunately, at this point, it is a rumor, but for the love of all things good, I really hope that it does go through.

Things can only improve with LA at the helm. At the least, it certainly wont get any worse.

Exactly how would it improve with LA at the helm Massadonious? They already have to give the go ahead to every bit of content in the game already. So how would they possibly improve the game? Have you seen some of the crap LA can put out? This game is by far one of the best SW games out there. Besides LA outsources most of it development work... so how would it be any different than how it is now? how would it get better pray tell? Everything in the game has already be Ok'd by LA as it is... so they're just as much to blame if you're upset with the quality of the game as SOE is.

Thats like saying its not G.L's fault that the new trilogy is as bad as it is because he wasn't "hands on". heh

Why dose any prof in this game have to be removed?

Yes there was 1-2 melee people in the films.

Yes in th ot (ot = old trilogy) there was not many jedi.

Think about it this way, we as players do not reprsent all the people in the SWG we are a small part of it, are all the npc going to be jedi no.

I understand all that. Maybe it's more of a SOE thing for me. I really don't know if it would get better, since LA does all that stuff anyway.Like I said, it certainly can't get any worse, but I would welcome a change regardless.

I'm having trouble figuring out how the original poster went from seeing an article about Lucas Arts stepping in and making some SWG decisions, to assuming that all Jedi will be deleted.

That's not even remotely a logical conclusion.

What will probably happen is that Jedi that exist will be allowed to stay, but no more Jedi will be allowed till one of the existing Jedi delete themselves.

The Jedithat currently exist will enjoy a revamp of their profession to make the Jedi much more realistic within the Star Wars universe, rather than in balance with everyone else.

Remember, Lucas is a marketing GENUIUS.

Eveything else will get whatever it takes to bring in the most players.

every time i come back to these boards it a bigger train wreck then before. LOL.

So, you want LA, a company that just laid off alot of people, mainly in a video game development branch of their company, to spend untold amounts of money, prolly millions, to buy this game, revamp it, prolly at the cost of MORE millions, then, remove ALL the Jedi, pissing of thousands, cutting into the playerbase, and costing them even more money?

Thisis nothing but a fanboys pipe dream. It sees LA losing all kind of freaking money on the deal, and no real way of recoping it, becasue, with the black eye this game has gotten in the gameing world, (it's the freaking JOKE of all MMO'S at this point, and if you can't see that, it's prolly cause you sporting to big black eyes.) it would take a marical too rebuilt a good reputation and build a strong playerbase, esspeically after you systimaticly delete or alter hundreds or thousands of peoples hard earned Jedi chars, which, BTW, were prolly the only reason them people stuck around in the first place.

Come on, you got game imbalances and bugs still in game that have been in game since the SWG BETA for gods sake. And the savorie of all, the combat balance has been pushed back, and is what, 6-7 months overdue? Many of you have said this game has potintual, and your right, heck, even i'm back to give JLT a look, but it needs MAJOR work, and that work costs money, and i don't think LA is in any pission to be taking on this fanianual burden.

A move like this has NO LOGIC behind it. esspeical not at a timewhen LA is laying off. It could be the single dumbest business move ever in MMO and videogame history.

but hey, LA has done some pretty stupid things in the past, and besides, if they do do it, it'll be the death null heard wround the gaming world, and this debuckal know as SWG will become a bitter memory, soon forgotten.

so, in conclusion, if this pipe dream comes true and LA sinks to new levels of stupidiy, and give the fan boys what they want, an Jedi free game, then that will be the END of this train wreck of an MMO, and the fan boys will be left out in the cold again. Or it can go on as is, with SOE trying to fix things and the fan boys will contuine to be angry...

seems to me like it's a no win for the fan boys....

anyway, this has been an amusing read. thanks for the laugh!

Regardless of whether this is true or not, taking away something that players already have (i.e. Jedi) would be a great way to get people to cancel their accounts. SOE may have violated continuity in a number of ways, but we have to keep in mind they only do so in response to the wishes of the players. Remember that a large slew of people voted that they wanted Jedi in the game way before the fact. Even if Lucasarts did take over and really crack down on continuity they would still have to listen to players if they hope to keep the game viable.

While this is true, IF L.A were to take over SWG then yes the likelyhood of them droping jedi would be high imo. Yes we all know it will upset a lot of ppl, including myself in a way, but it will be for the greater good of this game in my opinion. Isnt that supposed to be the main issue?

What we all have to keep in mind tho' is this game has to be built on a firm player base, and when ppl mention Lucas listening to players thats also true....but what type of players? A selection of players are summed up by the 'Keep jedi rare, except for my account..' thread. Lets face it ppl tend to bash the devs for decisions made, numerous we could all mention (jedi, re-vamps etc) but in reality half the time its the players that have governed and pressed bad decisions. Maybe its the time for whomever takes the reigns so to speak, literally takes the reigns.... with Star Wars in mind.

One last thought tho', this at the moment is the only game of its kind (once the expansion hits). A certain other space based MMORPG game is in the works as we speak, and tho' I am not an avid S.T fan....a lot of aspects they have in the works there would really fit the Star Wars Universe.... by expanding and elaborating on it...

How will grouping and team play work?
Groups of both "pick-up? players and more permanent crewmates will have access to interesting missions, ships, ground-battles and game-play opportunities.

Will there be missions or quests with a storyline?
We will use dynamically-created space and ground areas to provide missions that will include conversations with non-player characters, key decision points, interesting puzzles an

Can I or my crew own a starship?

You and/or your crew (clan, guild, etc.) can be made responsible for a starship for the purpose of an individual mission or an official commission.

Will there be housing?e

The exact design is yet to be determined, but even Ensigns should have a cabin.t design is yet to be determined, but even Ensigns should have a cabin.

SWG has it easy atm there is no other game that offers the same experience when JTL hits. All of these above points need to hit SWG before it hits other MMORPG's. SWG has time on its side in a lot of respects and a big head start. The above points have been mentioned here months ago, way before any info was released on jump to lightspeed.

If jedi are removed, then maybe they will have to migrate to a jedi only server, now wouldnt that be a turnup for the books lol. Either way lets wait and see what happens...
