If it makes the game better then of course I am all for it. I love the game now and will love it even more if we get more content and a more "star wars" feel. The thing about jedi is, over all servers there is thousands of jedi or wannabes so the likelyhood of them deleting all jedi is VERY slim. IF the take over they may reinstate perma death and rework the jedi system(again). I still say we should have a random mediclorian (sp?) count that you get when you create your char, and there is NO way for you to know if your char has force sensitivity untill maybe that char has done something (some sort of trigger) that will allow a sort of force check quest. The quest should be an ACTUAL quest not like take this package to so and so, or so and so needs escorted here go talk to him/her and bring him/her back. Most of all it would no longer entail endless grinding....you complete the quest and IF you are FS (you wont know untill you complete the quest, and there is a chance you wont be) then you will begin more quest to learn the ways of the jedi or something along those lines.(I am not a programer nor am I invovled in game development in any way so I am sure there would be a lot of ideas to work out but I dont know I think it would be better.)

I believe its just a rumor, to change a game that dramatically by replacing all or most of the staff... is a sure way to alienate more than a few people to mess up a lot of systems.

sure LA should work more closely, but LA is not infallible either, dont forget all the big changes to the game have to go through them first before they can go live. So the Jedi problem is just as much theirs as it is LA.

and if Lucas is dissapointed with something... he should be dissapointed with his OWN handling of the franchise (the new DVDs and the new trilogy) man, he has caused more Damage to the SW name than anyone else! heh

Ok, one last thing before I get off my soap box Take away the star wars stuff and just look at the game for what it is. Then ask yourself, would you really be playing it? The only thing keeping people around is the fact it is SW, and its exciting to be in a galaxy full of the movies we have become obsessed by. The game itself simply is not fun, or any different from other games for that matter. I'm really not trying to flame or anything like that, and I appologise if I am coming off that way.

Here's the problem.

People say that they want to end grinding. However, I do not believe that it can ever be ended without tottaly trashing a skill system.

As long as people want to be the best, there will be grinding.

grinding is a state of mind. They set a goal and anything that happens inbetween them and that goal will always be considered grinding.

I would play it. The crafting and the economy of this game is by far the best in any MMORPG to date. The character customization and options you can do are more than you can do anywhere else. You will very rarely find someone who is exactly like you... whether it be look, template or even what you do. Not to mention that I haven't "grinded" anything in months, so my fun factor is considerably up.
Yes, combat needs to be retooled and rebalanced, but in all honesty, the base core of the game is the best there is right now.

I have to agree with you on the game having more than the Star Wars logo. I took a break from the game for a few months, and I was looking for game with similar freedom like this game has. I can't find anything like it, there is no other game where you are completely free to do whatever you want, no quests you HAVE to do. It's great.

My input on the matter...

SWG is a business, pure and simple. SOE, LucasArts, whomever... They are in this to make money and to do so they need to appeal to the widest demographic possible. By someone removing the Jedi quotent from the game they just eliminate probably 1/3 (conservative estimate) of the SWG member base. These are people who PAY for the privilage of being a Jedi.

Remember, as consumers we are the market. We are the ones who decide what is put into a game because the developers, as business owners, look at what appeals to us and then implement it.

Jedi appeal to us. At least some of us.

For those that don't like Jedi unfortunately thats too bad. Jedi were uber in the movies as well however they WERE wiped out. Maybe toning down the Jedi of the game might make things a little more balanced but who knows whether that will happen or not.

As for my PERSONAL opinion on the game. My real life career is about as closer to bounty hunting than any other profession in the game. When I log into a game (that I'm paying for) I want the freedom to be able to play a Jedi or a Dancer or a Chef or whatever. Start limiting options and I, as well as players like me, will open accounts with other games (like EVE Online for instance) and take our hard earned consumer dollars with us.

When that happens its a snowball effect.

Less member base = less money coming in.

Less money coming in = less venture capital

Less venture capital = less development money

Less development money = the death of any MMPORG

Simple mathamtics.

I know that this is forbidden from the higher-ups, but we like to let our minds run wild here. I have heard it from the grapevine and have discussed this with a good friend of mine who has also heard the same. Apparently Lucasarts is displeased with the way that SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) has handled Star Wars' MMORPG Galaxies. Now the day after the JTL expansion goes live, they plan to announce the second expansion pack and the divorce between SOE and Lucasarts. They will then give update us on the changes that will be made when Lucasarts takes the controls.

First off the game has only been out a year, and it's much more stable and balanced then EQ or most other MMORPGs in thier first year. Second it is highly unlikely Lucas Arts (LA)will "Take over" as they did not design this game, they consulted which is grossly different. If LA took over, then bye-bye SWG and a new fromt he ground up game would have to be made as LA would unlikely get they creative team for SWG to work for them as they work on toehr products as well. Not to mention the legalities of SOE owns SWG, the framework and code needed to run it, LA would have to buy or pay royalties to SOE for the use of this game, even though they did licence it out it is SOEs intellectual property. The results of a LA take over much a majority on this board would 90% likely shut the game down and maybe, just maybe do a new one. Can LA convince the man that investing huge sums into R&D and the infrastructure needed be worth putting out there, why take it in the first place? Because it failed? Why put a failed product back on the market, see the reality is if SWG failed because of reason A, to most money people it failed end of story.

Speculation has gone on that they are looking towards a SWG with no players being Jedi. It is said that Lucas is displeased with the game but excited about it's potential. As a Star Wars fan and a gamer, I think (if this is true) that this will be a turn for the better. Whatever Lucasarts does with it flying solo, it is sure to do Star Wars justice. Stay tuned and we will keep you informed.

Ok it is clear this rumor is from some folks who clearly hate Jedi, why would a company scrap an entire game, and dont kid yourself legally LA doesnt own SWG it's SOEs intelectual property, over one aspect? Money wise it makes no sense, design wise it makes no sense someone hates Jedi and started this rumor. We have heard that JTL is coming out, we heard SOE is working on expansion number 2 already as well, LA has a contract, so LA would have to buy out the contract, desing and launch the new game. Just to design a game like this will take 3-5 years, it doesnt make sense. The game has only been out a year, if every MMORPG did this (The boards of each game were just as dire after year one) then MMORPGs would have never gotten off the ground. LA doesnt have the infrastructure, nor the staff to design and implement an MMORPG, hehe that is why they contracted SOE to do it.

Lastly Jedi being clearly and without duobt the core of the Star Wars Universe,w hat sense would it make to exclude them in a non-scripted game? Would A New Hope made box office history without the force? I doubt it, but you think so clearly. Why get rid of just Jedi? Is it because they are rare in the time frame the game is based on? (Note thephrases "based on", that doesnt mean it has to be 100% correct) If rare or at all is the reason then what about Teras Kasi, Creature Handlers, Smugglers (The slicing part), Bio-engineers, Fencers, Swordsmen, Rangers? Not one are in any movie and only one is mentioned in one paragraph in a book at release time for the game, yet this rumor doesnt address this glaring problem of made up professions. Clearly the rumor is just a campaign to attack Jedi players, and has no basis in fact.

The game is one year old, there are problems, all fixable few very serious as to warrent scrapping the entire game, which is what would happen if LA took over, it's wrong just wrong.

I completely refuse to go into SWG rant mode, but let me just say this. Any MMORPG where you can master just about 'any' job within a week of decent playing time is plainly put, a failure. The only thing this game has going for it is, A) An awesome community, B) the Star Wars name/content (which is definately lacking at times). If this game did not have anything to do with starwars, it would instantly be considered one of the worst games ever made.

EQ 5 years old, introduced the beserker class, within 3 days someone made 65th level even more in 2 weeks, max Level. So should EQ be shut down too based on that line of logic?

EQ should be shutdown period!!! But you are right, there are powergamers everywhere and on any game. THe beauty of Star Wars is that you can do whatever you want and are not bound by the restrictions of staying in one class the whole time. The first people in the game couldn't master a profession in a single day and in fact, the only reason you can right now is because the buff and armor system is so out of control. Knock off the buffs and armor, then try to master a combat prof.

I completely disagree with this. It makes it so much better. Instead of the person who spent more time grinding always winning, the person who has more skill is able to win. That way someone who only plays a few hours a week, can master a profession and stand his ground against someone who plays everyday non stop.

Possible actions that LA might take if they take over

Problem LA doesnt own the intelectual rights to SWG, so an LA take over kills the game on the table now.

  1. Reinstate Perma-Death at a one life counter. Total purge of the FSCS if the character is that FSCS (Lose all FS skills with no chance to get them back if the main slot) .

This whole rumor is clear Jedi haters trying to scare the thousand who bouthg the game to play non-scripted Jedi. KOTOR, Jedi Knights, Jedi Academy are all scripted you have no freedom.

  1. Total roll-back of the servers, and close down the less populated ones.

Ok but with no game to run, this isnt needed. LA doesnt own an MMORPG much less one based on Star Wars, so no need for this, SOEs SWG server would all be shutdown and your accounts deleted, everyone. After that we wait 3-5 years for the LA MMORPG if they even do it, after all SWG failed why try again? Then you have to build a player base of 300,000 in first 3 months to break even. After year one when the complaints that shut down SWG come in for the problems LA has, what then shut that game down too?.

The CEO of LA has said that he wanted SWG the best MMORPG on the market. So far SOE has not lived up to his standards.

If EQs problems (And it had far more of em after just a year) forced a shutdown, we wouldnt have SWG to complain about, becareful what you ask for.

If LA had/has their way,SWG will be an unstoppable game.

IT's a shame really, this game has potential, but SOE decided to focus on jedi because "everyone wants to be a jedi." I hope these rumors are true, unlike what LA did to Decipher with the old Star Wars CCG, I will have some satisfaction that they're leaving a less than stellarcompany. (I still believe LA's decision to cut ties with Dechipher was the worst business decision ever made. The WoTC game is piece of worthless garbage. Iplaced 7th in my province in the last provincial tournament.)

And if LA doesnt please you either? Alot of folks think LA is a magic wand and can do no wrong, this is a reputation no one can live up to. And shock of all shock what if they include Jedi too? HAHA! how funny, this rumor's entire reason for exsistance is Jedi hating, and chances are LA would have Jedi in the game too, after all Jedi are in every movie, game, book, etc. Why would they not have them in thier MMORPG? dont make a lick of sense. You Dechipher/WoTc example proves even more that a new game would be installed and SWG would be dead, it's about intellectual property, without LA SOE has no right to use the SWG game, but without SOE LA has no rights to the game either.
