Thread: Good or Bad news.
The Jedithat currently exist will enjoy a revamp of their profession to make the Jedi much more realistic within the Star Wars universe, rather than in balance with everyone else.
Remember, Lucas is a marketing GENUIUS.
Eveything else will get whatever it takes to bring in the most players.
What we really need to know is numbers ... money numbers. Is SOE losing money on this game? Are they losing a lot? Are their projections showing them that they're just going to lose more? Is the 'churn' rate of customers showing them a dark, dark time ahead without major changes?
We don't know. But there are a lot of easily imaginable economic scenarios where SOE just cuts loose this project and hands it lock, stock & barrel to another company (like LA). None of the coders would change, LA wouldn't have to run out and hire a bunch of new devs, they'd just be changing the suits at the front office who make the big decisions, and that is clearly what needs to change in this game. It's the big decisions that have put this thing into the ditch, not the guys & gals writing the code that makes Naboo look like Naboo.
It doesn't matter how much money SOE has invested here, what matters is how much they stand to lose if things keep going the way they are ... how much damage it does to their corporate image to have this project associated with their label. I can only speak personally, but I just can't imagine buying anything with the SOE label after the level of mismanagement I've experienced here. There's too many other choices out there. Maybe they'll be good, maybe they'll be bad, but I know how these guys run a game (into the ground), so why give them my repeat business?
A change of ownership here would be a sign of hope for the customer-players the way a change of coaches gives a football team's fans hope when they're on a long losing streak .... and let's face it, SWG is Miami Dolphins of gaming right now.

I say if its not totally broke.... dont fix it
Don't get me wrong I've seen tremendous improvements since day 1 but... I believe you have it all wrong its been broken for quite some time... and it has to be addressed sooner than laterbefore it drags down the Star Wars franchise.
Its true you can never please everyone but you can make a tremendous impact by just following the exsisting blue print... I mean it seems easier than it sounds. But George Lucas layed the foundation for Star Wars more than 25 years ago.
I've just recentlywatched that documentary on George Lucas on the Ep IV, V, VI DVD, and all the hard work and dedication still seem fresh in my head. I can't help but have great admiration and respect for what a group of peoplelead byGeorge Lucas can accomplish. We all know that the creative processisnot simply black and white, there seems to be a lot of grey in between. Just like any project you need a leader with a vision and in this case SWG. This person appointed to lead this project has to have a vision that adheres to the true spirit of Star Wars that we all know and have grown to love.
In order to move forward changes has to happen no doubt about that, and as forLucasArts/LucasFilms they have to protect their own interests.
