Thread: Force Sensitive ability and pilot?
Anakin is the only pod racing human due to his "jedi" like reflexes, not because he's playing thew ground game...

In Epidose I when Anikin is explaining the Pod race to those at his dinner table he distinctly said that he was the only human who could do it. Qui-Gon responded, “you must have jedi traits,”
Also, in Episode II we got to see Obi-Wan’s starfighter. If you check the continuity you will see piloting and the Force talked about. Also, that little thing that Obi-Wan was wearing on his head allows Jedi to have special controls over a starship according to the books.
Ah, but you're only remembering the movies, "from a certain point of view"...
Lets go down the movie list:
Episode 1 - When Qui-gon, Obi-wan and the queen were escaping Naboo and trying to brake through the Trade feds blockade, why did the Jedis just take over the pilot controls? Wouldn't they be better pilots? The answer wil be revieled as we go along...
Episode 2 - Obi-wan had to escape and hide from Jango Fett in the asteroid field. Being a Jedi should have made him better than a lowly bounty hunter with no FS, right? Shouldn't have Obi-wan totally pwned Jengo then? Read on...
Durring the final assult with clone troopers, no Jedi are driving, and instead are being driven by BH clones...
Episode 4 - Before luke was a jedi, he was a good pilot like his father. It is mentioned that Anakin was a great pilot. If all Jedi are great pilots, why mention that? Thats like seeing a pretty woman and telling her, "your're pretty, AND a female...". Why doesnt Obi-wan take over the Falcon to escape the star destoyers on Tatooine? Once again, wouldn't being a Jedi make him better than Han at this?
Okay now! Luke at the death star. As you recall, Luke wasn't the first to fire at the port, only the first to actually hit the port. And as luke himself said, just like hitting womrats back home...he was practiced intargeting long before being a jedi! And who saved the day? Luke? Nope. He was so busy concentraiting on firing at the port, he was an EASY target for Darth vader...
Who is so busy concentrating firing on Luke, he became a huge target for the real hero...HAN SOLO! A non-jedi. One stary shot and Darth is spinning outta control!
Episode 5 - What great jedi crashes his snowspeeder after being shot down by a AT-AT? Why it's the same one who crashes into the swamps of Dagobah!
Episode 6 - If destroying the second death star is so important, why not let luke fly the falcon, instead of lando, and Luke gets to go to the ground unit?
Why? Because Being a Jedi doesnt mean you are a good Pilot!
The good jedi pilots would have been good with or without the force...
Class dismissed!

i wondered those same things. Last time I checked flying as Luke Skywalker in the Rogue Squadron games didn't give me any "special" powers. They made a jedi starfighter game and of course they would have to give "jedi" powers to them (if not they would have a hard time justifying the Jedi part) So to recap: Jango > Obiwan, At-At >Luke, Dagabah > Luke, Han Solo > Vader
The only real thing anyone has to stand on is the line that Quigon says about Anakin having jedi-like reflexes. Not jedi reflexes, jedi-like reflexes. So basically it comes down to personal skill rather than actual Jedi ability. (i would imagine that if qui-gon is such a powerful jedi he could have easily just hopped on the pod racer and won the race for everyone if jedi reflexes were really what the causes were)
Anakin was a skilled pilot and a powerful jedi. Han Solo is a skilled pilot and a sorta skilled smuggler (failed on the slice on the endor bunker... shoulda used a clamp Han ol buddy) Wedge Antilles is a remarkably skilled pilot (survived not only 2 death star runs alive, but also Hoth.)

wrong wrong wrong Vader> Han Solo; Han's good Vader's better. Han had a surprise attack on Vader, while he was also in a lrger ship with greater combat abilities than Vader's.

Wow! Excellent point! I forgot to mention that...
Well done!

wow, guess vader wasn't tuned to the force and was surprised. odd for someone who is one of the most powerful jedi to not feel a freighter closing in on him (freighter... not advanced fighter like vader was flying). Also Anakin also took a hit while flying an N-1 that sent him into a semi-controlled spiral into the droid control ship. Sure he pulled out of it and "accidentally" blew the crap out of the ship, but he still was hit.
Solo also flew through an asteroid feild at a heck of a lot faster speeds than Obi Wan did AND was able to evade multiple fighters while doing so.
In any case just being a Jedi doesn't make the Jedi a skilled pilot, but increases their skills. Qui-gon simply wasn't trained as a pilot, but as a Jedi.
To all you "Jedis" people the plural for Jedi Is Jedi!

agreed, vader is human after all... therefore any "jedi" skills should be simply human traits (player traits, not character) as in you have skill or you do not.
but do you agree that a non-jedi pilot could potentially be greater than a force sensitive pilot? Piloting (in RL) is a very seat-of-your-pants. Instant decisions are always made... split second decisions that could mean the difference between life and death. Throw in combat and it gets even better. The same should stand true for JTL. It is all the skill of the pilot... there should be no ingame modifiers at all.
consider: the New Jedi Order. Lando Calrissian has an asteroid race thing that people compete in. Jacen fails it. So does anakin. Jaina completes the course (and breaks the record or something). Now in the NJO series, Jacen is considered more attuned to the force, as well as anakin. Jaina is the superior pilot out of the three... but she is not nearly as powerful a jedi as the other 2... they also credit her piloting skill to Han, not to the force. /shrug haven't read them recently, but i seem to remember her having a little trouble with flying against the son of Soontir Fel.
also... obi-wan sure was trained as a pilot. He was easily tricked and outmanuevered by jango fett... sure, he survived thanks to clinging to the back of an asteroid, but i wouldn't exactly say he won that one.
the main issue with giving jedi powers in space is simply the fact that over 90% of the jedi will have JTL. 90% of the jedi will be pilots. no big deal, not complaining about the amount of jedi... but i don't want someone who is not a better pilot than me getting the upper hand simply because he gets a modifier saying he should. Yes, i could get force vehicle control (i actually already have it) but there should be no jedi modifiers into the system.

Jedi r better than other stupid pilots so they should get bonuses just like the movies and books, i could care less if u guys get pissed.
Thats another reason why LucasArts should take the game.
...no... it all comes down to skill. a jedi may have better reflexes but it sure won't help then dodge a laser blast. Didn't see Luke doing some awesome laser dodging on hoth when he went down (wedge antilles survived that one intact though) of course we could always just stick true to canon and just kill all jedi anyway since they technically do not exist in this time period.
...and lucasarts oversees everything that is going into this game. they supervise over everything... they already own this game... SOE just runs things through them to make sure they check through. Of course if you wish for Lucas to come over and correct everything and make it more "star warsy"... the first thing to go are the jedi... gotta stick with the canon.
