I'm so signing this...
Regardless of the level of the mission, if it's a PVE quest/mission, then there should be no PVP involved in it. Period.
I'm sick of things being ruined by camping/ganking 12 year olds with nothing better to do with their life, who make the game an impossiblity for people who actually have a life/job and can't afford to spend 14 hours waiting for a 5 minute break where the campers sod off so you can actually enjoy some of the high end content of the game.

...to those players who say that you should just stop at 4444 pilot if you don't want to pvp. Fine, but move the multiplayer ships to Tier 4 and leave one ship in the master box for the pvpers and the only ship capable of acceptinglevel 9 & 10 components, but make it so that people who use that ship are automatically overt once they enter space with it. I don't care about the master title.

/agree. Let people play to their play-style. If you want to PvP, great. If you want to PvE, great.
Yes, it is a multiplayer game. Multiplayer <> PvP.Playing with other players does not automatically mean playing against them. Don't force everyone else in the game to play it the way you want to play it.

see, yesterday I made a post about people being one-minded about play styles. And I'll say it here too. Some morons think that since thier play style it to PvP, that everyones style is to PvP. Those of us that HATE it, are getting forced into it, because of those one-mined, frooty toot, know-it-all dumbasses who are so thick skulled, they can't see we actually do hate it. God how typical of the devs to break promises like these...

The master missions are most certainly not duty missions. In fact, they are just about the most tedious missions in the game.
You won't get far with a squadron of your guildmates either. You can kill anyone who attacks you, but they'll just come back to Kessel for more. There isn't anything that stops them from doing so. All it takes is one hit, and allthe hard work you've done the past hours will be ruined.
The fact is that these missions are not fun, they wouldn't really be fun even if they took place in PVE sectors either. They would, however, be much more tollerable. Even hardcore PVPers will scream of frustration when they get ganked over and over again while trying to get 30 kills.

/sign. Move the missions to another sector, or put a mission flag on people in Kessel that makes them immune to PvP.
As someone who has been doing these missions for the last two weeks in Beta, I think I can speak from experience when I say 'THEY SUCK'.
JTL does force you to PvP. Stopping at 4/4/4/4 pilot means that you forgo the multi-player ships and the late game content. This is unacceptable in an expansion where we were told that all PVP would be consensual.
NPC Ties and Tie variants are enemies. The soldier analogy someone presented earlier is WRONG. Killing PVE enemiesIS fighting in the gcw and taking a risk...I have been one-shotted by Gunboats often enough to knowthat it is risky fighting in the current PVEarena. Gating people from the rewards of mastery just because they don't like to fight other people is WRONG.

We the players of Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Light Speed ask that our Developer team read and think on the aforementioned subjects. We understand your need to fuel your visions for the GCW and the Pilot system is a good way for you to do that, The pushing of GCW involvement is already there. This demand of players to head into what will be the highest griefing zone in SWG history is a horrendous thought process. Who would want to have to go against an ignorant and rude child who plays to make other people walk away in disgust. Who would want to have to basically camp the Ackley of Space in order to advance to their highest tier.
Our proposal is thus, leave the current system in place and give those of us not liking this an alternative, maybe the same mission with an escort in a non PvP zone. The code is already in the trainers. Make the conversation have a choice. Do not break your promise to us to never force us into PvP, you may say that PvP is not being forced upon us for the mission, and though this is a technical truth (the mission does not state you have to kill players) PvP will be INEVITABLE.
I so totally agree. This will be a game breaker IMHO.
the basics?
- you MUST enter an area that forced everyone overt to complete the missions
- you WILL be at the same point of buffs running out in ground game
- the other player WILL BE at full force.
- you WILL have an amazing ammount of griefing
The main reason I would want master is to have a multi player ship that I can take guild members in to PvE and maybe some PvE. This is going to be worse than Jedi's farming faction from overt non-jedis, and that forced toooo many players into covert status or cancelled accounts.
I FULLY SUPPORT Jtl, and recomend buying it, but this one part MUST change

I've stopped PVPing in SWG because there are a class of individuals who get their entertainment by causing grief, that would be fine if this was not a Role Playing game, but I would like to put on a uniform and conduct a conversation without being attacked

You can disagree all you want and twist whatever logic you need to meet your views, the plain and simple fact is that we have a choice and that fact alone negates any argument that this is forced. Forced by definitionmeans against ones will or to be forced and left with no choice. That is clearly not the case here. As I stated earlier, I don't disagree that it's a crappy setup to master pilot, but by no means is it forced PvP.
Would the word "required" suit you better?
