Thread: Newbie questions

Igot through the DE grind very quickly, which is good on one hand, not so good on the other. I am now a master droid engineer, but I don't know how to put the advanced droids together. I have a few basic questions. The general droid socket cluster schematic has 3 optional droid service harness modules listed, what does this mean? I don't have a schematic for a droid service harness module...so I think I am missing something. Also, can I stack level 6 item storage modules in a droid to enable a droid to store 60 items?? Please let me know, also if there is a link to a great site with basic droid construction information, I appreciate it. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks much!

I believe there are some FAQ's stickied on this board, but I can answer those. Service harness modules are any basic modules (crafting, storage, repair, medical, anything that fits in a general module slot). You can put 3 of these in the cluster, then the cluster goes in some advanced droids. As for stacking, you can stack modules, but they cap out at level 6 stats. This means you can stack some lower level modules together (a 3 and 4 usually does the trick) and you get a level 6 equivalen, but you could use 6 level 6's and still get the same result (10 items in the case of item storage).

That seems a bit wrong, doesn't it? If I craft and put the item storage in there, shouldn't that let the droid be able to contain more than 10 items? Can I put both item and data storage in the same droid, or are there any bugs preventing that? Thanks for your answer!

Another so-called "master" that is ignorant in anything pertaining to the construction of droids. The best way to figure out how droids work is to actually attempt to make some, and no, grinding out thousands of Advanced Frames doesn't count.

Your best place to start is the FAQ's. Lot's of answers there. There are several droid config's that just won't work and the FAQ's will tell you what they are. An example : Item storage doesn't work on surgical droids.

DE's are a bit testy right now due to all the false promises by the SWG team. Until we some real results, I am afraid it will be ugly in here for a while.

and if you became a DE because of those neat combat droids we're getting, we'll also likely want to poke your eyes out with a spork.

seriously though. since we get a post like this every day. can you answer me how you dont notice the 2nd thread on every page that reads "FAQs, Guides, and Assorted Droid Engineering Links"?

I didn't think we were getting any "neat combat droids", and I was under that impression before I mastered this profession. Nope, it wasn't a hologrind either. IfI was following the hologrind, I would have done master scout and master ranger by now. I said in my first post that it was probably a bad thing that I did the grind through DE very quickly. OK, change that to it WAS a bad thing. I don't understand where the prissy attitude frpm some posters is coming from. I appreciate the people who were kind enough to post some answers to my noob questions, and maybe I haven't looked through all of the FAQ. The links I have clicked on are all about pricing droids, taming droids, droid usage, but I was looking for some nuts and bolts information on droid construction. All I want to do is make the highest quality droids possible. I probably won't even bother to sell anything but seeker droids and probe droids, but I wanted to make some really top of the line droids for myself and a few friends. I hope they do fix this profession, because it seems like there is a ton of stuff that doesn't work, and that is frustrating. I will read all of the FAQ sections, and I hope that if I still have questions afterwards, someone will be willing to post an answer. Another note to the somewhat anti-n00b posters, if droid engineer is going to get all of these new gadgets and toys in the future, you probably need to prepare yourselves for posts that will be much worse than mine. The profession will become super popular, and that might not even be a bad thing. I didn't start the game as a droid engineer, so I really don't think I deserve any aggro because I am not quite up to speed yet. Thanks.

There really aren't any construction guides, or even anything in the in-game help system that will direct you as to how to construct droids. The best way to learn how to make droids is to actually make droids. Play around with the modules, try different combinations. Only by trial and error will you learn the ins and outs of the profession.

And because you are getting so many good advices *grin* in this thread, I'll give you one too.

Don't sell too cheap! You will only hurt yourself!

(before you ask "whats a good price?", this question is also asked almost daily. You should find your answers in this forum with a little bit of searching.)

Other than that, you REALLY need to read the "Centralized Droid Issues (Jan 23, 2004)" at the top of the forum. Otherwise your customers will call you a cheater when you sell them a bugged droid. And we have quite a few bugs...

I think we should all consider not one-starring a post if someone declares in the subject header that it's a newbie question. That way we can go "oh look someones asking a question that's in the FAQ" and not read it thus avoiding the tendancy to 1-star. OR if we were in a helping mood we could open up the thread and honestly answer it w/o flamage.

Thanks again for all the good answers. To theastute posterswho weresaying I didn't readthe FAQ, I must say again thatthe specific informationI was looking for isn't in any of the FAQs. I think you should read what I was asking for in my posts, and then check the links and FAQs, and you will see that the specific information I wanted isn't there. I will go ahead and just slap the droids together until I figure it out, as one of the engineers suggested. I am really glad that I saved resources for 3 months prior to this, and happy that I am a master artisan for all of the components that are needed. I am also glad that some of the droid engineers on my server are really cool (Mofopopo for example), I wanted to thank him for his help and patience in answering my questions in game. Thanks.

I didnt know you could grind droid engineer! What components do you craft at what level to gain quickly? We have 2 new DE's in our city that would appreciate the information.

Tell your DE's that they are better off not grinding the profession. If they take the time to learn what each module does, and how they can use them, they will be better off by the time they reach master. DE is better learned by taking the time and learning the profession...
