Coruscant isnt destroyed
and id prefer planets that u can do somethin besides just walking around
and actually the apartment idea if i remember correctly was my idea, i mentioned it in a core systems post along time ago, i remember saying it would be good to be able to pay a fee and not have it require lots, but that u were not allowed to rent 50 places or something, but it would give u a reason to travel to say tyrenna cause mayb thats were your apartment is in one of the sky scrapers
hopefully its put into teh game

"Your idea of Coruscant is half-assed at best; not anywhere near the representation of Coruscant that the developers would like to implement."
Hell, the whole game is half-assed. Look at Mos Eiseley. The starport is supposed to be massive with multiple landing pads. We get one tiny landing pad that would have difficulty fitting in the Milennium Falcon. Give me a break. To say that the developers want to 'do Coruscant right' is ridiculous. It cannot be done 'right'. It has to be scaled down or visualtricks have to be used to make it look something close to what's in the movies. That's what the developers did with the rest of the game. Why should Coruscant be any different?
And flaming me for suggesting ways togetthe job doneis evidence of your lack of imagination as well as your inability to discuss this issue like an adult.

"It would HAVE to be a stand alone expansion. The engine that SWG uses simply can't take it."
Why not??? Of course it can do it. I don't know why people keep saying it can't, but there's absolutely no reason why not. It is not difficult to adjust the model to fit the game's constraints. The developersjust have to be willing to do it.

It would HAVE to be a stand alone expansion. The engine that SWG uses simply can't take it. I mean sure they can throw it all indoors or whatever, but why bother? It would not be an Immersive expirience.
Star Wars Galaxies: Coruscant: Expansion Two. Now THAT would be something that would be freaking AMAZING if done correctly. An engine would probably need to be designed specificly for that though. I'm getting excited just thinking about it.
If they don't can't do Coruscant I'd rather see a new planet like Hoth.

Surely the developers' urges are irrelevant. Why are the developers' wants more important than those of the community? Since when did customers' wishescome second to those of the vendor??? That's just not good business.
The urge that fits into your formula should be that of the customer, not that of the developer. The developers exist to provide what we desire. You have it the wrong way around.
As for Bespin or a revamped Eiseley - this is the first I've heard of any plans to do either. I hear lots of calls for Coruscant, and I think the vast majority of players are happy enough with Mos Eiseley. As for Bespin, who wants it? And in Heaven's name why? It's not exactly a key place in the movies.

I used to want them to include Coruscant but, knowing the tech issues and the need to do it correctly, we will have to wait for that distant day. Though, I do think that day is fast approaching. There was news just recently of a new chip developed by the Israelis which is big time faster than anything out there today. We shall see.

Bespin and Eiseley were just examples.
Sure the Urge of the Customers normally matter, but were you around when they took away character stat migration and gave it to Image Designers?
I was the biggest opponent to that change, and I wasn't the only one who felt that way. The developers went behind the players backs and wouldn't even listen to player suggestions to compromise. That was a situation where the developers listened to their own urges and ignored the players urges.
I guess what Im saying is that if the Devs feel a certain way they might not care what the players have to say. It has happened once and it will happen again.
I have to admit that a lot of players want to see Coruscant, Hence the title of this thread

In that case, I think the developers were probably right. Now IDs have a much more integrated and useful role in the game. However, this is a very different situation. There is absolutely no reason why Coruscant could not be modelled just as well as Tatooine has been. Noplayer really cares that the game's version of Tatooine is far simplified compared to the film version - in fact I'd imagine that few players even notice. This is exactly how it would be with Coruscant.

I was not flaming you at all, Beery. Merely pointing out that your vision of Coruscant for SWG falls far short of what the devs wish to do with the planet. Perhaps saying that they wish to do it right was not the correct term to use...I essentially meant that they wish to do it the way they have handled the other planets in the game. You will notice that there are few indoor areas compared to the amount of outdoor areas. They have clearly focused on developing the landscape and atmosphere of the game, not the interiors of buildings. To break from this formula would be...awkward at best in this type of game, and to fully utilize the formula would require power (I suspect mostly on the users' end) that is not available, at least affordably.
The planets are not perfect by any means. I was quite disappointed to learn that most of the buildings in the game were there for eye candy and nothing more. They could definitely use improvement in many areas, but I think the current set-up is far better than a planet restricted only to indoor areas.

"if you think coronet is bad, just think of coruscant..."
Erm... who here is even considering a big outdoor city version of Coruscant? Only the naysayers. No one advocating for Coruscant is suggesting that it be portrayed as a big outdoor metropolis. This whole idea that it can only be portrayed that way isthe most cynical version of astraw man argument. Let's get beyond petty rhetorical tricks and discuss the issue properly. If people are just going to base argument on their own misconceptions and biases, this discussion is going nowhere.

By doing Coruscant "right", within the parameters of SWG, I think people mean that Coruscant should be consistent with all of the other planets in the game. You should be able to walk from one end of Coruscant to the other. Not only would that require TONS of architecture (and most likely repeat stock buildings), but it would require a constantly loading cityscape spanning 5000 cubic meters. To divide Coruscant up into zones (the only realistic way to achieve this objective), we lose the full picture of the planet, thus resulting in a really half-done interpretation of the planet. That is why it's not really something that can be done right now, and why it wouldn't be considered doing it "right."
The Matrix Online is supposedly developing a game that will be one big zone, one big city. I don't know if this is how things will end up, but this could provide a solid basis for how to program Coruscant. We'll see what we end up with, but Bespin MUST come before Coruscant, I agree with that.
It's pretty obvious in looking at the buildings on Corellia that they had developed some art potentially for Coruscant, but ended up with Corellia being the Galactic hub. It was a good choice.

Totally agree with what you said Sklokazoid.
Only way that Coruscant would happen that I could see working would be to make it much smaller than the other planets. Perhaps you would only visit a small but improtant sector of Coruscant 1/4 the size of a normal planet.
