as much as i like this idea and would like to see something like this implimented into the game. unfortunatly past experience tells petitions like this one for something. generall go ingnored. but it would be nice and work something on thelines of minning did on earth and beyond that worked nice plus the minning ships would need some sort of defenses from the npc's too

but yeah i agree with you. if you played earth and beyond or others that have wher they did haveing mining ships that s definatly way to go and i believe would be dooable here too.

This isn't a petition man. Its a Post i made to see if anyone liked my idea to give ME an idea. As long as i know there are other people out there who like this idea, it keeps me sane.

I like this idea. Let me add a little something(s) to it if I may.
First off, only people who can mine on the ground should be able to mine in space. I think that ought to be a given.
Second, I think you need to implement it as a subtle addition to existing Pilot skill trees rather than making it something separate (i.e. having themining ship qualificationslinked to any factional chassis skill branch so, say, at Tier 2 you gain the normal factional craft AND the qualification to use a Small Mining Vessel, Tier 3 would unlock the Medium, Tier 4 the Heavy and Master would unlock a Super Heavy).
Third, this would give the 5million mass MP ships a good way to use all that mass. Let them carry multiple mining ships. Let them carry fighter escorts. Let them carry the mined/harvested resources with the remaining room.
Fourth, make it so that shipwright resources are easier to come by in space than on the ground, and vice versa. Keep the mining yield roughly similar, but make it so that it is far more efficient (perhaps via concentration %s?) to mine ground resources on the ground and space resources in space.
Fifth, get other crafting professions involved. Make it so Shipwrights make Mining Vessel chassis, but need Architects to supply the extraction cores. DEs need to program various components (and perhaps even provide the AI for NPC fighter escorts).
There is a LOT that the devs can do with space mining now that they have more people to work on things. I'm really hoping to see a lot more content now that their workforce is growing.

Ya we can add this to the list of wants that might show up 18 months from now when the game has already been closed.. LOL they cant even get the combat revamp out, you think they are going to start a new project? Lets get with it here...

Personally I think it's a lot more fun to talk about how to make the game better than it is to piss and moan about how bad it is. If you don't like what we have to say you don't have to waste your time contributing to the discussion. Or NOT contributing, as the case is here.

/sign I like the idea. It could also give start to mercenary/ milita pilots out for hire as guards.

This idea reminds me of the game Terminus. I don't know if anyone here has played that game. Anyway, all ships in that game had a cargo hold, some bigger than others depending on type. For this game, either a dedicated mining ship should be added or MP ships used for that purpose.
A mining ship would have a single weapon hardpoint that could only equip a mining weapon. A loot box on board could hold 75 items, so in theory this box could hold 75 100k amounts of resources. The mining weapon would be made by shipwrights and vary in effectiveness and speed based on quality. The same principal could be added to MP ships, using the current loot box. A mining weapon could be added to one or both weapon hardpoints.
To use the mining weaponyou'd have to be close to an asteroid, within 100m at least. You couldn't be moving to use it. It would also aggro any NPC ships in the area.

One more thing. While mining ships should be mad that you're taking their resources, would it really matter? One blaster at .6 armor and shields with a max damage passing 3000 counts as a one hit kill on most ships labeled miners in-game. Any MP ship with a half decent gunner could mop up these fools with little trouble.
