Thread: /sign please...Mining in Space & New Ships

Mining in space would be great but let's not forget that JTL although seperate from the ground game is suppose to be an extension of it and mining in space would have a huge impact on the ground game.

Therefore I would propose up front that Mining in space has to be tied to the Artisan Skill boxes.

So what you would have to be to mine is various levels of the pilot skil plus various levels of the Artisan skill.
The more experience the better the mining.

Mining by ship has to be in Real Time meaning NO HARVESTERS!

Equiped mining ships would use mining lasers which are not weapons grade.

Mining ships should not be of much if any use in combat.
That means if you go it alone in any dangerous area your going to be space sludge.

Those spice raiders won't like it when they find you mining in their territory.

Bring some friends to guard you , or hire someone to guard you.

Mining ships should be able to carry shields and armor but would have to be careful of the mass since overdoing it would effect their cargo space.

I like the idea of small, medium and large mining ships... But tie in the certs to levels of the pilot skill.
Tie in the the amount that can be mined to the Artisan skill.

I agree with above, mining should be done at the keyboard. You could get 'mining turrets', that would be a joint-venture between Architechts and Shipwrights to produce. So to get maximum mining power from one ship you'd have to buy good mining turrets, and hire people to man them.

Also the ships should not be combat-capable themselves, of course they'd have engines, boosters, shields, armour etc; but to mine rare minerals in the asteroids around Dathomir for example (they could make it so that the odd colour Lightsabre crystal is in the rocks for a bit of atmosphere) would require a fighter escort.

Imperial mining ships should have a very menacing, dicatorship look like that held in the Decimator.

Privateers could use some of the large ships already flown by NPCs.

Rebels could get a smaller version of the GalloFree yards transport maybe, modified for light mining.

Excellent plan! I prefer to see mining take place via the ships (small, medium and large) rather than with harvesters; just my take. I also like the idea that the ships be tied to pilot achievement level. Anybody ever play EVE?It has an excellent space mining elementin it.

I agree with the poster that loves the idea but refused to sign; petitions don't ever seem work with the devs.

I would definately post this in the "In Concept: forum. It *is* a good idea.

The in Concept forum would be the best place right now since Tyrant is asking for Idea's today exactly like this but it's also good here since it gets the juices flowing.
Also posting it in the Artisan's forum would be good and getting feedback from their correspondent.

And not directed to you...
Remember that an Artisan had to use real skill points to learn how to mine on the ground.
I feel it wouldn't be a good thing to let pilots who used only JTL skill points be able to mine and compete with ground game Artisan's so some tie in to the Artisan profession should be required.... But I may be wrong so feel free to tell give me your reasons why pilots should be able to mine without any ground game mining exp.

Could you perhaps supply a link to that topic as it does not show up when I check the In Concept forum?

I think it's a great idea.
Tyrant isn't asking yet for JTL ideas but when he or any other devs do be sure to give them a link or quote from your thread.

Warp, I agree with you. I am a miner (Artisan 0,0,0,4) planet side and Ithink that this would be a good tie in! ...just wanted to make my self clear on that.

Hey I vote yes!!!

I loed it in the online game called Jumpgate.

It had in space mining and sliding or zero g

with perpetualmotion. The sliding made the

game more realistic. But I have to admit it

was hard to learn how to dock at first. And the

heaver the payload or the larger the ship the

more you slid and drifted. Personally I like

it more than what we have. It a challenge

what we currently have is a nintendo circle

game, which takes not as much practise or

skill and doking is not even a real part of this

game.

Anyway the mining was very cool and it would

give ground based miners something new to do,

it would also increase sales for the expansion

from the miners if hard to get resources were more

abundant there.

Yes again I vote YES to mining!
