I completely refuse to go into SWG rant mode, but let me just say this. Any MMORPG where you can master just about 'any' job within a week of decent playing time is plainly put, a failure. The only thing this game has going for it is, A) An awesome community, B) the Star Wars name/content (which is definately lacking at times). If this game did not have anything to do with starwars, it would instantly be considered one of the worst games ever made.

You don't have to get rid of Jedi, just make something thats more interesting than Jedi and people will also persue that. Like I said though, this game is all based around grinding. They're isn't much else to do. You can master any profession in the game in under a week, some within 1 hour, there isn't any content to speak of. When I first heard of the game, I heard of huge battlefields, hundreds upon thousands of stormtroopers and rebels ravishing planets in truly awe struck battles. What do we get? We get around 20 Rebels (or Imps) attacking a base and blowing it up. There are no re-precutions to their actions, no bounties put on their heads, they just run in blow something up then stratch their heads and wonder what they're going to do next.

It would be a godsend if Lucasarts took over and brought something (anything!) new to this game. The only reason why I play this game, is because it has a Star Wars theme. So much potential wasted over such trivial things. Sad really...

Sure if you don't make with the head...

Just because a game doesn't reach its full potential doesn't mean its a bad game.

Thats the problem with this game though, everything is concentrated on Jedi. Jedi to everyone is the end game. Once you get a Jedi, then your a uber l33t machine. Thats what's wrong with this game. They should slowly steer away from Jedi and add more things to the game that concentrate on other things, like content. That would be a big change.

But I can't see Lucasarts doing that. For one, they won't take jedi out of the game, its there and removing it will alienate all the jedi and they will all quit. Sure its a victory for star wars, but Lucas is more interested in the pocketbook than the fans. And there are only a handful of games that LA has put out that are content-driven. (i will so eat my words if they get the guys who did KOTOR on this game)

LucasArts didn't make KOTOR.

If anything, I highly doubt Lucas Arts will take the game away from SOE, instead Lucas Arts will managing it more directly (which it needs).

SOE has done quite a pitiful job. Between rampant Jedi, combat and GCW revamp delays and broken promises, and huge continuity mistakes. I welcome Lucas Arts managing this game...

However, the fact that SOE hasn't commented otherwise is a hint that there is some truth to this rumor...

/hi5!!! no, they produced it, they own it, and they paid the paychecks of the people who designed the game. Just like they did with SOE and SWG. Lucasarts doesn't make games. They produce them.

Possible actions that LA might take if they take over

  1. Reinstate Perma-Death at a one life counter. Total purge of the FSCS if the character is that FSCS (Lose all FS skills with no chance to get them back if the main slot)

  2. Total roll-back of the servers, and close down the less populated ones.

The CEO of LA has said that he wanted SWG the best MMORPG on the market. So far SOE has not lived up to his standards.

That rumor is not old news, what it didn't say, was that SOE is more than willing to end their partnership with LA, because they don't have the control they wanted.

If LA had/has their way,SWG will be an unstoppable game.

IT's a shame really, this game has potential, but SOE decided to focus on jedi because "everyone wants to be a jedi." I hope these rumors are true, unlike what LA did to Decipher with the old Star Wars CCG, I will have some satisfaction that they're leaving a less than stellarcompany. (I still believe LA's decision to cut ties with Dechipher was the worst business decision ever made. The WoTC game is piece of worthless garbage. Iplaced 7th in my province in the last provincial tournament.)

All too true. What we may see is rather not a complete takeover... just a changing of the guard. SOE will still retain the hardware and software aspect... but the LA team will be the design team and the developing team. I'm not sure, but i think SOE and LA signed a 5 year contract on the game so SOE may still be onboard... but not in a controlling force. Hey, if the game is made better, i don't care who or what happens.

I dont think the profession system is necessarily a failure, but the speed and the way you travel through your chosen job's tree is a lack of foresight and creativeness on the part of the Devs.

I like the game, has its problems but is not a bad game.. if LA were to take over i say they should make Bioware the new development team for the game. every game Bioware has made had be spectacular. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR, soon KOTOR 2, Jade Empire. Biowares track record is the best and i own every game they have made. I hope they become the development team beucase they will add some truely great content to this game.. and I hope they get rid of jedi entirely (Im not a jedi hater, Im grinding jedi right now cause thats all there is it do. and that is the reason i wish jedi werent in the game)

Bioware aren't the ones doing KOTOR2 really...

Anyways. It's not like conceptual design should really be a problem for this game. Everrything as far as concept wise is already out there, either in the books, the original trilogy or from the playerbase, they simply need to code it. If Jedi were never a playable profession, the game would be in a much better state, but that's already screwed.

If the GCW and combat revamps are done properly, and if Jedi were given back TEF's and perma-death, things would begin to improve.

Hopefully Lucas Arts will be much more involved with this game, because continuity is a HORRIBLE JOKE. Most of the things you see (and hear) in this game are fromthe wrong trilogy...
