I feel us guys who actually went out and bought JTL got cheated. This new upgrade is including JTL (hopefully it gets ALOT more people in space), but I feel instead of creating a planet nobody gives a rats ass about they could have greatly expanded the already existing ground/space game. Space itsself has sooo much potential to be it's own game it's unreal - yet they 'cop out' and add fins and a recolor to our existing ships?? Whatever happened to releasing cannon ships anyway? There's a whole mess of things that take place in this time and they feel the need to add ancient starfighters to the game?

I give a "rats ass" about it and will have fun playing on it.
Ive been playing alot longer than you. WHy should you feel cheated and me not feel cheated? WHy are you so up in arms about a game? SO you have to pay 25 dollars for MORE content. SO what? If you dont want to pay, then dont buy it. SInce you dont care about the new planet, you should feel no need to buy it, so why complain.

*cough*
Excuse me.I still payed my money for my copies and I pay my 15 a month per account just like you do. I paid for an expansion in which I will obviously have to pay for another to keep up with space. They are releasing new ships which will surely outperform the current ones, and if I wish to remain competitive, I'm left without a choice. If the XP were not mandatory for me, I wouldn't get it. I'm still amazed as to how theyre going to have such a heavily vegetated planet like Kashyyk when they can barely get everything in Endor spawning 10 feet in front of you. I can care less about how long you've been playing SWG, I am entitled to my own opinion as you are entitled to yours. I fail to see how you came to the conclusion that I was 'up in arms' about anything. Adding a planet, ugly robot arms, some rehashed ships, and new weapons isn't much for an expansion. JTL was enormous in what it added, yet they choose to barely show it any attention with this new release. There are so many other things devs could have improved and touched upon and you know it. Don't treat me like a newb, buddy, I've been playing MMO's since they first came around. (UO Dread Days anyone?)

And to further touch on the new planet: When was the Wookie planet even mentioned in the OT? Never? What planets are we missing that were in the OT?

Hoth (perma-battlefield maybe?)
Bespin (instanced atmospheric space for ships with different sky textures and some floating buildings, and maybe a space station to walk in?)

These were key planets that were fought over at this time in the OT. Kashyyk had absolutely nothing pivotal going on at this time in the GCW.

But hell, lets just continue to throw continuity out the window. Just because you played longer than me.

Never did I say you shouldn't feel cheated. This is a discussion about JTL, not your own agenda. I came here to discuss JTL , not whether every single person in game is happy or not. I have my right to feel as I choose to feel as do you. You sir, can have a nice hot cup of STF U.

they are trying to keep continuity in the overall story we are between episode 3 and episode 4. e-wings havent been invented yet. that is a new republic ship. same with the tie defender it is an imperial remanent ship designed by grand admiral thrawn. where they would be sweet to fly they dont exist yet.

Grand Admiral Thrawn helped design the XM-1 Cygnus Missile Boat it was used in limited numbers to counter Zaarin's advanced TIE models. This all took place during the classic game, TIE Fighter and its expansion Defender of the Empire and breifly mentioned during X-wing Alliance.
a little side note about Zaarin, he designed a shield generator small enough to fit onboard the standard TIEs.

Insidius: "For those of you who are lost on the concept of the "new ships," I'll spell it out for you:

They basically just added what everyone was screaming for, and that is "high level" xwings, interceptors, z-95's et cetera.

Now these ships will have enough mass to compete with the higher tier ships so that those of us wanting to fly this style of ship will be able to do so at higher levels of skill, and still be able to compete with the high tier ships.

I, for one, am all for it. I don't see what the problem is."

AMEN! Someone finally said what I was thinking. I'm still fairly new to this game. The highest level ship I've flown is a TIE Interceptor, but I have started working on the rebel pilot tree with a different character and quickly got irritated with the way it was set up. Anyone who has seen my post on the B-Wing thread already knows that I'm now flying a Y-Wing, mainly because I no longer had a choice. You don't get the X-Wing until tier 3 and the Z-95 doesn't have enough mass to hold the equipment you need for the more difficult missions in the middle tiers.

I flew one Y-wing mission, hated the hell out of it, so went back to my Z-95 because I had managed to find a shipwright who found a way to add 2k to its mass. Flew it without front end armor, boosters or a droid interface so that I could outfit with with a strong weapon and shield generator. That was good for a while, but nowthat's not good enough anymore, so I'm back to the Y-Wing. So I'm stuck flying this fighter that is designed for bombing freighters and capital ships, yet all the missions involve dog fighting with speedy fighters.

The sluggish heavy fighters just don't suit my style and don't suit the kind of missions that are common in this game. Yeah, my Y-Wing's blasters are nasty and will take out another ship's shields in no time, but that's only if I can hit the other ship. Watching a Tier 4 TIE/Interceptor zip around me while I helplessly try to get my guns on him is frustrating as hell. If I had a heavier Z95, then I could catch the TIE.

Since I'm not yet certified for an X-Wing yet, I have no choice to use the Y-Wing on the current missions. I want the option to use a faster and more nimble ship for those middle tiers on rebel. If dorky fins or whatever on a Z95 will let me do that, then it's got my vote. I have no gripes on the imperial tree. Those ships just suit my style of play. But I would like to see the TIE Defender in all it's unbalanced glory. Like an earlier poser said, it would probably get nerfed, but maybe I could get some fun of it before that happens.

It SHOULD have been done earlier. But seeing as with a little tweaking I could load everything on my Advanced into an Interceptor, I'm anxious to see just how "maneuverable" the RG one is. If I had money on it I'd bet the Modified Adv is just 85k to bring it in line with the Dunelizard.

The description of the Jedi Starfighter on Page 2 worries me, though - Jedi NOT having abilities in space have been the only thing keeping the FS conversion argument in check.

One of the most beloved characters from the Original Trilogy was from Kashyyyk. ANd this is obviously a promotional tool to try and get more people to play SWG. Kashyyyk is a prominent planet in the new movie. If they put an older planet in, why would people who may not know much about star wars, except for the fact they saw EP3, want to try the game.

SOE: "Come play our game, we just added Hoth"

Potential customer: "Hoth, whats that? Never heard of it. THat wasnt in the movie".

No need to get defensive...noob

I was merely stating that ive played longer than you so if anyone should get it for free, it should be ppl like me who have paid more than double what you have paid so far, in order to play SWG.

I'll take two sugars and some milk with that

You just said it yourself..... Kashyyk is in EP3, not IV - VI. You don't think youre going to see advertisments left and right for Rage of the Wookies when the movie is released anyway?? Hell, space could possibly attract more people not typically drawn to MMORPG's if it was given enough love. I got a friend of mine subscribed just because of what he saw in JTL. Now he's discovering the ground game too. Shame on you for failing to see the marketing potential in the legendary status that is STAR WARS, not forrest wars.

You were already rewarded for playing/paying longer than me anyway: Vet Rewards.

And my comment on JTL being FREE with ROTW was a pro not an attack against the new, free players - I stated it would bring MORE people in space hopefully. Go get your eyes checked, or learn to discern connotation, noob.

Kashyyyk exists during any era, moron.

I think what they are doing is exactly what JTL needs as a first step.
The lowered tier'd ships need to stay as they are to preserve the journey. Adding enhanced versions of those ships gives master pilots several choices instead of having to live with severe handicaps on lesser tier'd ships.

All I see in space are Oppressor's, A-Wings, and Krayt Gunships.

Mabye now we'll see Mod Tie Adv, Mod Tie, Royal Guard Tie Interceptors, Oppressors, Mod A-wings/Z95/X-wing as well as the 3 new ships they mentioned that aren't faction specific yet.

Assuming they are going to tweak the master level content so that players have something to do besides farm faction points space could become A LOT more interesting by simply adding modified versions of existing ships so that players will have more choices.

BTW.. I've heard rumors of a total of 20 new ships... so I have a feeling we're only seeing a small amount of whats too come so far.

Still curious about what gets cert'ed to who (besides the obvious Reb/Imp modifications). I can assume that the ARC-170 and Grievous Fighter are nuetral but what about Jedi Starfighter? I'll just wait an see though. 20 new ships would kick ass.

I hope that this helps space diversity. The space game can be terrific if they keep plugging away at it. More ships help. I don't care if it's only a repaint here and a few fins there. Making every ship model viable is a worthy move.

These days, most of my time is spent in space. I'm making money (now up to 3.4 million, which is the most I've ever had). Piloting doesn't feel like a grind, unlike the ground game.

Just had a thought...

Anyone consider the idea that these new modified fighters will be purchased 1 use schematics bought with Presitige points?

Makes sense though. How many Imps/Reb's out there have multiple millions in Prestige points. Would be cool if thats how you got the new TIE Intercepter/Advanced/XWing/Z-95 schematics.

Just a thought

That's a really awesome idea. It'd be cool to spend my seemingly endless prestige on Elite Shipsschematics instead of just having them to enter DS with. If they did something like this I'd hope they make sure to keep the Shipwrights involved, they already have enough of a hard time finding customers.

As a matter of fact, make the elite ships require multiple schematics that cost tons of Prestige. Perhaps a hull schematic, systems schematic, etc. etc. That way you can keep everygreen ace from flying one too and make them work for it. It'll give something to set the aces apart.
