Thread: Star Wars Galaxy NEW UPDATE!!!!
Orgotholik wrote:I agree it would make this game a bit more hardcore, BUT to those of you that think it absolutely would not work open your imagination and think a minute. It could open up new professions to keep thinks in line. Like RSF profession on naboo, you on the RSF? well, you get points for keeping certain stuff in order, fineing people, arresting them, putting people in jail. As well as the other planets having security force professions as well as militia. I love alot about SWG, its just everyday it takes so much realism out of it to me that you have to duel, duel, duel. You gotta realize if there are Security forces, Militia men, penalties for extremiest, rewards for good simaritins/heros, this "free play" world would not bad as insane as you think, people would get used to it and if they knew there was a chance of having some serious penalties for killing a few innocent people in the cantina, they would think twice. Especially if your a master BH and your standing in the corner of the cantina eye-balling them. Once again adding to that whole ROLEPLAY aspect.
I am militia leader in a pretty big player city and its fun sometimes to play my role and patrol the city, but if someone is in town making trouble, I have to say, "Ok, you....you can't use our shuttle port, how you like that! Duel me now!! Please....ok...well have a good day.....". You really think someone like Bobba Fett in Jabba's palace is gonna ask to duel you if you run in the palace shooting everyone? Oh yea...thats right......you can't attack many NPC's in places like that......Hmmmm, now theres an idea......
When ever I try to use my imagination about free PvP I don't like it, the police profession might help but I'd doubt you'd get many people in it compared to the numbers of people that would grief and I really can't see any penalties that would bring some of them in line, part of what stops people in real life is that instintively its hard to harm another human but over an internet game thats not going to be of any influence.
Oh and I'm not that big on wanting to duel annoying people, they end up on my ignore list instead. Duel over an argument always struck me as might over right, like 'I can kill you so I must have been right', although I appricate wanting to kill someone that is just being really annoying because you can't retaliate is very different.
Also I think it would lead to everyone walking around in composite all the time, see enough of that already.
Oh and I'm a bit of a pessamist which never helps when I use my imagination about something I really don't like the idea off before hand

aaahhh if I had a nickel
I took 2 steps outside a city(that trinsic gate) and promplty got paralyzed by a mage and had my skull bashed in one hit by a macer.
it was a brand new charecter. it served no purpose other then ruining my day.
another story:
there was a girl who was decorating her house, there was a guy who knew her in real life...and hated her this was at a highschool. anyways him and his friends went to her house and cast meteor swarm and chain lightning at the top left corner of the house...which makes spells go through the house. she died in her house cause someone didn't like her in real.
oh and I apologize if these aren't in paragraphs I have a problem where no matter what I do paragraphs wont appear.
Yea, I understand that those other games, the PVP anyone didn't work. But that is those games, your telling me that their arn't any BH out there that would love to get REAL bounties for these grievers you all keep talking about? There wouldn't be any protectors of the innocent? HELLO!!! JEDI, are supposed to be good guys and protect the innocent. (Don't lecture me on star wars facts either maybe that is not one of the sole purposes of jedi, but you get the point). You actually think that EVERYONE in the game would just go absolutely nuts and start killing each other? I hate to tell you, but if you got heavy fines, item lose, even JAIL TIME or something!! It would discourage alot of random killing. AND IF NOT, well, some BH somewhere will have a quite nice bounty to hunt down. Not to mention the "live" events that the devs could drop like storm troopers to control certain out of hand situations. Alot of you act as if everyone wants to just go crazy and kill everyone, someone even called me a griever, hell I don't want to go nuts and kill everyone, I just want some freakin' realism. All these MMORPG's are starting to be the same. Go harvest, hunt repetative animals, wow, a new item....I mean its new things and innovation that will revitalize old genres. But no, everyone wants their security blanket. AGAIN, I DONT WANT TO GO AROUND KILLING EVERYONE, AND THIS WOULD NOT FORCE EVERYONE TO PVP. Force you to PvP, come on people think!! Hell I know this will never be implemented, but I just wanted to get my views out.
My main point out of all this is I just think the whole duel thing is retarded, and I am not alone. Most of the Hardcore MMORPG players are thinking like old farts, your too afraid of change. Stop saying it wont work, cause none of us know if it will or if it wont.

Well I don't see whats so different in some of these other games that means it would work any better here. Oh and I don't think everyone would go around killing everyone all the time, some problly would just to annoy others and then others might when they are bored.
and while BHs would love to get all the bountys that this system would generate for them I'd bet there would be BHs and Jedi(not just the dark ones) that would run around killing people. Also would the BH help the person being jumped by some other player or let him kill him and hope he gets added to the bounty terminals.
oh and about me and my security blanket lol I'd go play something like Counter Strike instead off this if free for all PvP was added, at least in those type of games its got more to do with skill then I'm a hardcore player hav the best armor and guns and get my kicks blowing newbies heads off ...
lol wondering all over the place here, there has been MMORPGs that have tried the general PvP approach, I think Shadowbane and Lineage 2 both do ... haven't played them so don't know for sure what the servers are like.
finaly, I'm sorry that you don't like the PvP system like it is or the way duels work but I do, differnt play styles and ideas of what is fun in game. Thats why I like the present system gives people the choice on how they want to play it. While it does seem impossible that the way PvP works in game would be changed on all the present servers it might be possible if as many people ae intrested as you say to get a special free for all PvP server.
It has nothing to do with the game structure. Do you think this possibility did not exist in thos other games? It does not work because of the people not the other games. People do not want to have to spend a large amount of time looking for protecters just to go out and play.

Nope, just the small minority of players that prefers hardcore PvP. And penalties don't stop these people, they never have. They simply find ways around it. And BH bounties would only encourage this kind of behavior. The Hardcore PvPer thrives on this kind of conflict and will go out of their way to try and make this happen.
AND THIS WOULD NOT FORCE EVERYONE TO PVP
True, but what it ultimately does is force everyone to be subjected to it at another players whim. And that is ultimately why it won't work. As I said in my previous post, if you truly want this, lobby for a pure PvP server. It probably wouldn't happen soon, not with the Jedi, combat and GCW Revamps and JTL coming up, but it seems to me there is enough support on these boards to warrant such a server. Ultimately there HAS to be a choice in PvP to gives MMO's a broad appeal but that does not mean there isn't a place for hardcore PvP in the MMO market.

You've got some good points Orgotholik. Some very good ones. A completely free PVP system doesn't work. Someone pointed out to me earlier that UO went from 100,000 to 15,000 subscribers because it was all open PVP in the begining. Then they added a "safe" world where PVP was only faction (order/chaos) and guild based. But they kept the open PVP world there two. On the same server. Moon gates anyone? Now UO is still competing even though it'd 2d and like 8 years old.
SWG has tried to do the same kind of things with overt/covert. Problem is no one but the die hards see any real point to being overt. And most coverts don't do anything remotely related to the GCW.
I personally am all for some added danger. If I get into an argument with somebody in a cantina I want to pull a blaster and shoot them without having to ask permission first. SWG has practically NO death penalty other than you have to visit a med center and/or cantina for a few minute afterwards. If they got rid of cloning wounds I'd be all for some kind of open PVP system. All it does is inconvenience me for like a minute.
Why do I like the idea? It promotes social order. The Empire rules the galaxy. They protect the innocent (yeah not really but in SWG they do unless you have really low Imperial faction). You get into a brawl in a cantina, shoot someone up cause they mouthed off. Some Stormtroopers come in. If your unlucky enough to still be there when they show up, you probably got a fight on your hands. They catch you walking in the streets? You got a fight on your hands. Every time you kill someone else (unless it's an agreed duel or your an overt Imperial) should generate more "bounty visabilty."
Get too much, (i.e. the griefers who kill people for fun randomly) then you have a bounty on your head and probably can't step near an imperial town (which should include EVERY town that has a starport)
When you get brought to justice (have to come up with something here) then your name is cleared. Get a bounty on yourself too many times and you are semi-perminately on the bounty list. There has to be a way to get off obviously, and it can't be too pleasent.
This would encourage players to police themselves and those around them. Those daring enough to stand up to the Imperial law and risk a lot will no matterthe concequences. Most of them will probably become rebels. As they should. Overt rebels shouldn't exist in this time. All are covert. those who are in trouble with the Empire are and probably should be rebels. it makes sense in a GCW sense.
Need to switch planets but think it's too risky because your on the Empire's "bad" list? Need to get weapons/stims/etc. but can't do so on city bazaars or in policed player cities? that's where smugglers come in.
there should be no rebel cities. all the player cities should either be imperial or neutral. and the Empire should put a garrison in every neutral and Imperial player city to maintain order on the frontier.
Want a rebel hangout? Unregistered groups of houses in the wilderness. You really think the rebellion in the movies had their meetings and such at the Coronet starport or in a Rebel owned city on Naboo? ummmm no
sorry i've been going on for way too long... my mind is just pouring out ideas here...
i'll stop
I patiatly agree...i guess.... That WOULD be neat to see this, but you shouldnt be able to attack a non combat charater....nor a n00b.....an this could be done with some i call variables in Basic.......must be sumthin like that in the language they use.....
PS: Yes. my name is quite stupid, but think this way! Its a road less traveled AND i could go on boreds faster!
While I have heard some talk of a Hutt faction, I don't feel that would be the way to go. What really seems to be missing to me is the criminal element and although the Hutt faction would generally fill that void I would prefer to see a generic "Criminal" Faction with all kinds of infighting.
This change would allow those who want this hardcore gonzo style fighting to exist on the same servers as those who just want to hunt the MOTM and yet not negatively affect them. You would then have the NPC Imps and Rebs attack you based on what your faction standing was with them similar to how it is done with the various NPC factions now.
Obviously there would be a lot of details to be fleshed out but I think it could add some spice.
INTylerWeTrust, God bless you, and thanks to others that have atually read deep into the post and not just read what they want and make comments like "its just a rant..." I have a rant for those people, come to bloodfin...Let me..Duel you? Exactly...Duel...uhhhggg.... And for those still saying that non-combat professions and new players can't be attacked please read some of these posts again. It has said so many times that those kind of people would find their security through others, BH's, Police type characters, Storm troopers, etc. As far as new players go, yea I think it would be smart to have some way to omit people from being able to be hit if they are under a certain level or are under so many hours of play, that way they can get prepared/used to the new "free play" style.
I appreciate all the replys everyone
It's nice to know some people out there are hitting base with me. Or for you butt munchies that leave lame comments, maybe I am just a griefer/whiner/smacktard/blah blah blah what ever all the words are for people who have "made baby mad!" Stop making up words and enjoy the games we have. LORD, I get so tired of all these names people make up when they suck in games, FPS worse word of all time "CAMPER" Grow up and lets improve the games instead of crying
I also think that trying to organise protection to go out hunt everytime you log on would be anooying for casual players or others only logging on for a short amount of time. One of the parts I like about SWG is that if you've only got a small amount of time and none of your friends are on you can go out and do some solo missions pretty easily.
