Thread: JTL Will it really help this game?

Here is the deal. The devs have stated in several chats that initally space will be all combat both PvE and PvP. They then want to add smuggling and space commerce.

Think of the expansion as the "core" of space with revamps in the future.

This whole game is a core waiting for some content to be added. After 16 months, I'm still waiting for my ranger to be useful. Why would anyone here think SOE will add content to JTL any faster ? Have you guys not learned any lessons from playing this game ? How many broken promises and delays have to occur before you accept things as is.. ie core is the game and doubtful any content will come soon.

Frankly, Im tired of sitting in a house with no roof getting rained on and having SOE tell me just a bit longer till we get the roof installed.

JTL wil be a big diappointment. Fanboys here might not think so, but look at how ignorant they are. They actually think space mining and smuggling will be added lol. Ask a smuggler if he has any faith in that. Hell, they're stil waiting a year on their promised ground revamp. I have 2 friends who played beta and those guys were hardcore space sim types and fanboys... they quit after a few weeks. Both agreed the game is similiar to the ground game... pointless and uninspiring. Also skills will have nothing to do with the space battles. Memory, video cards, internet connections determine the best pilot in this game. A one second delay for his dsl line cost him dearly against an opponent with a T1 line. Also its not open PvP either and you cant get TEF for attacking an npc of enemy faction. Pretty lame if you ask me.

what Immost worried about is how the game runs. If its a major lag fest (like the ground game) then forget about it.

I can play Doom 3 and HL2 onhigh settings and get 45-60fps, but SWG runs like a dog (please optimize the engine ffs) . JTL better be smoother!!!

JTL will have it's glory. With as much hype as they're putting into it, they're going to get a lot of people to play, and a lot of new subcriptions.

The initial fun factor of getting to blow up ships, fly recon for your Star Destroyer, or attacking capitol ships with your peeps or NPC wingmen will be there.

Unfortunately, thatnovelty will only last so long. People realize that they have to return to the ground sooner or later. Back to the same borked ground game SOE pushed back to bring JTL to life.

JTL will save this game, but it's only a temporary fix. This game needs the combat rebalance and GCW revamp for a permanent one.

Wow, I didn't realise this post would get so long.

I've read everyone's comments, and they've pretty well answered my initial question. I'm getting a very bad feeling about JTL. I can understand how it has to be limited from the beginning. I know SOE only has SO many employees working on SWG. I guess I can't gripe because what's there seems pretty impressive, even though I haven't got to try it yet.

I was only hoping that space and ground would interact better. Space seems like it's going to be completely detached, with the exception of ship crafting and such.

So, with all that's been said, I have to say that I'm disappointed the devs had their sights fixed on space for so long. The ground game is suffering. I logged back in for my 10 day free period and everything was exaclty the same...except most of my friends were gone, fewer people were on Tatooine, and it seems everyone's trying for Jedi.

I'd like to seethe GCW and combat revamps. To me, they are what will make or break this game, not JTL. Most of the skills are in place, the economy and superb crafting systems are in place, but the combat is bland and lacking...and depends too heavily on buffs and armor.

I haven't encountered much Jedi activity...maybe they just never hang out on Tatooine?

Hang on every internet game is like that, but no other games lets you fly a ship and fight on the ground. Your 2 mates where ment to be testing the game not playing trying to kill each other.

*points to next post up* Now that's the main reason you have to be 18 to be in the beta. Morons like this who post such intellectual threads titled JTL sucks. Then got the content of the post removed for talking out his arse hole. You sir are a utter and complete ignoramus.

I think JTL will give a huge boost to the game, and then things will be looking up afterwards, if only because the devs working on JTL have given me some faith that they listen to the players and can deliver. There are a multitude of changes they have put in to JTL recently at the behest of players, and when we didn't like something they've changed it. I think JTL will be successful, and I think the lessons learned with JTL (which are based on lessons learned from the ground game) will go back to the ground game and we'll start to see things happen pretty quickly.

Those of you in JTLbeta can't deny how responsive the devs have been, whether you like the game or not. My confidence is high on JTL right now.

I think the devs are too responsive. It only takes 5 whiners on the forums to change the game at the moment. This is the reason why we got Xmas holos, Crap ATST's, JEDi wars, a different FOTM every week etc. I want the devs to be more selective in listening to players.

They can not win if they do nothing or do little they get shouted at if they do all they can they get shouted at. I would hate to be a dev to much strees me thinks.

Maybe they should add an in-game voting system for major changes. So its not just the Forum users swaying the devs. Would give a better overall picture of wether something truely is a problem.

Thatis a good idea, they could put it in the launchpadd so when ever you log in you could vote on what you would like to see fixed in your prof.

Of course they're responsive, they're trying to push it out the door so they can make money off it ! If you think the same level of attention will be given after shipping, I have land for sale in Florida.

If they had been as equallyresponsive with SWG they wouldnt be in the pickle they're in with the "Revamps" and all.

I play in beta, or at least did for a bit. But I dont think it's gonna be the big "Savior" of the ground game. They're applying the same old school of thought with it.

I'm not quitting, but I'm also not buying JTL until its been out for a bit.

I'm also wondering about new people comming to SWG/JTL. First they need to purchase the SWG package for like $30. Then buy the JTL package for another $30. Even if JTL is all its touted to be, they are still paying full price for half a game. Cant wait to see the forum rants then
