Hey devs!!!

I really enjoyed the Kill a Dev events! On Friday, I believe I spotted Kylaena (at least i think it was Kylaena) and another dev with only 2-3 rebels fighting them in the tatoonie sector. I hopped in and managed to kill the other dev once and kill Kylaena twice. HAHAHAHA...but then Kylaena came back and showed me a new definition of "pwned". It hurt.

Ok, I think it's working now. I wonder if I can count that as a bug I fixed today

Mmmm.... does this mean the Dev's are paid per bug fixed? That explains everything!

Seriousely. Keep up the great work guys. Ignore all the negative comments. Your doing a great job to keep us entertained.

Well it's long past time management let you folks out of your cubes and onto the boards!

FWIW, I've worked as a Dev (completely different industry), and I'm obviously a customer of SOE and a lot of other stuff, so I know both side of this equation very well.

My advice is simple and sound: Never take it personally and never enter board-space without your Kevlar-Encrusted Battle Shorts at the ready.

Hiya, I'm usually just a lurker, but it seems we've been prodded out into the open for a bit. I'm Rick Delashmit, and I'm a programmer on JTL, primarily server side, with a smattering of client stuff thrown in for good measure. On JTL, I've done a lot of stuff with making ships with interiors work, networking for space, player controlled turrets, and general code infrastructure updates for handling the differences in how ground and space operate, etc. Prior to JTL, I worked on the ground game, with things like player cities, guilds, pvp, and various backend systems. Some folks may know me from way back on the original UO dev team as well.

Hi. I'm Calan Thurow, a programmer working on JTL. I've been on Star Wars Galaxies pretty much since the beginning.

Most of the things I did in the original game are things you wouldn't see directly. I wrote the persistence (database) system, the system for dividing a planet between servers, etc. I also worked on the resource system and harvesters.

For JTL, I've worked on things that are more visible, which has been a lot of fun for me. I wrote the logic for how missiles fly and the effects they play. I worked on capital ship and bomber AI, and the autopilot system. I wrote the system for radial asteroids (the small rocks or pieces of debris that bounce off your ship when you fly through an asteroid field).

Currently I'm working on bug fixes. At this stage of the project, the bugs tend to be scattered over different systems, so every day I work on something else. The issues I'm looking at today involve grouping and the way groups are handled in the UI. Tomorrow I'll probably be working on something completely different!

You messed up on the missiles...all of the missiles I fire are supposed to hit ... all that people fire at me are supposed to miss

Hello gentle citizens,

My name's Adam Hunter and I'm a programmer working mostly on the Client side - fixing crash bugs, dealing with UI issues, sometimes graphics and animation - you name it. I'm usually on the Live team (meaning the ground game), but lately we've all been working hard making JTL as fun as possible. I've worked on a bunch of miscellaneous UI features and such like the Quest Manager, the Waypoint Monitor, various options and such ("please let me turn screen shake off or I will find out where you live and shake your monitor every 10 seconds until you do" ) (just kidding :]). I also wrote a few quests for the Force Sensitive Village. Lately I've been twiddling with the camera in JTL and making some UI fixes there as well.

I've been at SOE about 6 months; before that I worked on the ill-fated Ultima X: Odyssey for a while. I'm super excited about JTL and hope you guys are too.

I like long walks in the park and the old West End Games pencil-and-paper game "Star Warriors: Starfighter Combat in the Star Wars Universe".

Let me know if you have any questions I can answer!

Thanks,
Flazm Kazaam

Did you ever work on a FPS game? I seem to remember an Adam Hunter with Renegade or UT.

This post is a great idea G!

You DEVs should come out of your holes way more often and post here and there, just 5 minutes of your time, but people would be way nicer across the forums, I am sure of that!

Oh and Flazm I'm really sorry about what happened to U10, it really must suck if they trash all your work like that. I was really interessted in that game, being an old Ultima fan and also one of the UDIC dragons...

May I just say, you did your job a tad too well with respect to the missiles and bomber AI at the higer levels.
