Five Stars bro!

I think this is a great idea! And to anyone who wants a taster of these proposals, I suggest you read the X-Wing books; you'll see why these ideas are so good!

For that Star Warsy feel, keep squadron size to 12 per squadron.

And if you want to get real fancy, allow guilds to own Capitol ships where that guild's squadrons can base out of. How awesome would it be to have you guild chilling out in the mess hall on a cap ship when all of the sudden they need to make a run for the hanger bay and climb into their ships and launch. Pretty much just install starship terminals into the cap ship hanger bays. That would be pretty cool I think.

I'd like to see if it's possible to add something to the Guild/PA system- Guild Squadrons. My conception of the system works like this. This is my description of it as it would be implemented in a perfect world.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions? Thanks!

Fantastic approach, and appears to be more of a consensus than any suggestion I've seen around these forums. Not to raise a dark cloud on the thread, but we need some similar creative thinking around the ground war too, cause this is exactly the kind of thing we need, PvP motivation with carrots instead of having it shoved down our throats by way of Jedi visibility and negative XP.

The ideas here make PvP seem attractive, especially to those masses of players who currently avoid it. If someone could come up with some similar suggestions to the ground war, maybe limits on jedi per PA, to get PA support, instead of that BS negative XP and other nerfs, and all kinds of ideas that this thread gets the juices flowing, maybe we can get the devs to do something they've been unable to do so far... come up with thoughtful creativity to motivate enjoyable gameplay and content that isn't an ivory tower - piss people off approach.

Five stars! You're on to something JimerLins.

Devs, this is a very, very good idea. Please give it serious thought!

I sent a link to this thread to the Pilot Correspondent, but haven't received a reply. He's probably drowning in PMs, so I'm hoping he takes a look at it and brings it to the Correspondent Forums, where it's more likely to get some play.

So why is it that a petition thread for fuzzy dice has stayed on the front page when this one keeps getting bumped?

Have 5 stars on me.

They need to fix formations first though to make group flying as a "squadron" viable but a lot of these ideas are sound.

Nice work!

Maybe group formations (and subgroups, like an attack wing, cover wing, etc) could be made into commands available to Squadrons. Imagine you're flying in space with your squad mates, the group leader toggles "Spread Vee Formation", and you see a dot in space where you're supposed to be, which travels relative to the group leader's ship. That way you can track where you're supposed to be. The Squad Leader can toggle different formations for different purposes.

Being able to break a Squadron into smaller groups during flight- like designating pilots 1 through 5 as the attack wing because they're in the bombers and pilots 6 through 12 as the screen because they're in the light fighters, and 13-16 as the bomber escort because they're in the heavy fighters... that would be even more awesome.

It would be cool if you can do subgroups within a group.. perhaps by color coding the grouping squares around different wings. That way you can tell not only who's in your larger group, but also where your subgroup is. The leader of each"wing" can have a different shade of the same color.

Oooh- another idea to add to the pot:

What about Squadron Callsigns? Each Squadron member could choose his or her callsign, which would be next to their name: Like Jimer "Flameout" Lins or whatever.

That would be really cool.

!

I really like your idea, but I think you have to give everyone the right to be a jackass and not follow the leader (let them control their own ship, but could make a secondary target crosshair, for example, or make a new "waypoint" to the target)

oh and the name of my ship is kinda what if igured would be (or could be anyway) your callsign, since it's already next to your named when you target someone~
