I had a similar issue since I got JTL... my engine often resetted to 0 (every few minutes) and ships slided around (known as the drunken bees issue) and often the graphics were out of sync so that you hit the ships but didn't do any damage.
I tried a lot of stuff but nothing fixed it until I came across this thread
After deactivating the FSB I NEVER had the issue anymore, since then JTL is really really fun! My engine now only resets to 0 as for everyone else (every 10 min or so unless the sector is laggy) and not a SINGLE one drunken bee yet! Space was so frustrating before, now it rocks!
So if you tried everything and it didn't work, deactivate the FSB in your BIOS.
Oh yeah, and forget about satellite... the ping/latency is just too high for games that require a fast connection (as JTL does) because the data to and from the satellite just travel over a big distance which increases the lag a lot.
edit: oops just saw someone posted the link already, sorry, but it really works!

similar but unrelated issues.
Also, I grouped with a few guildmates in space and had them dissable a ship for me to sit and fire at. I saw the hits and so did they but still no damage. JTL just WILL NOT work with sat. =/

before you go with the CSR's suggestion (Lord knows how good our CSRs are in this game), I recommend giving this suggestion a read: Clicky
short version of the article, go into your motherboard's BIOS and disable spread spectrum.. contact your motherboard manual for information on how to get into your BIOS
if you have a pacemaker in the house, I recommend that you don't mess with spread spectrum as it involved EMP technology.. the article I linked above will explain it to you.

I dunno, I dont have satellite cable, I have the comcast cable internet they provide in the digital tv package, it runs around 3-4 mbps or supposibly. Anyways the point is, is that even when I have cable internet I see the same thing as he does, and I have had other people witness this, and its total bs. It never happened in beta for me, but yet it does effect me on live now. I can see the shields get hit, but no damage is done, I have seen ships do 90-180-360 degree turns, all while still facing the same direction, and that makes it even harder to hit, I catch lag everytime that stupid chat window, comes out from an npc talking to me, I rubberband in space, as like my ship comes to a complete stop, and starts to move agian. I know it cant be my pc, I have a 3Ghz P4 800mhz fsb, 1 gig of cosair XMS ram, Geforce FX 5700LE, and all. I never lag on the planets or nuthing, except right now the chat lag, but thats a global thing. I sent in a ticket, and the csr told me to do something with my profile folders in the swg folder, So I did, nuthing happened. Hopefully we can come up with a better reason why this happens.

I don't know, I'm using FiOS as well (fiber), but I still have that happen on the crimson and normal interceptors from time to time, usually happens when I get them to 50% tho. And that's using missiles as well...

So we just need to find a way to send information faster then the speed of light! Sounds simple enough
Yup, very easy. Quantum entanglement.
Now how do you incorporate that into a device....
Infuser imshumser, we need a hyperspace transeaver(sp?) array and it'll be set!

Devs, can we have some commuinication on the problem with hitting things in space please. What do you expect to do about it? It is ruining the game for me.

I have two computers behind the same firewall. One has this problem in almost every single encounter, the other has never had it.
The one that has never had it is inferior in every way, but it's the only one I can use for JtL.

EDIT: And I'm on cable and have absolutely no problems with any other twitch games online.

What kind of ping time do you get on sat anyways?
I use dial-up and is fine in space except for the loading part. Game used to run flawlessly on dial-up prior to the CU, but they've changed some stuff so its a lot more laggy. But thats just mostly the ground game not space.
Find a high quality local dial-up it should be alright. Of course the dual modem thing would be awesome, i'd do that but that would be very spendy.
Even now i'm paying $42 a month for dial-up $22 for 2nd phone line and $20 for ISP. I'd have to pay 80 some dollars for the dual modem hahaha...

i had the same problem when i started playing it was the firewall i was using i went on live chat csr told me it was firewall and sent me a e-mail with a list of ways to fix the different firewalls it ivolved telling the firewall to allow all traffik to and from the isp adress ranges that soe sent me so if you are not on satelite connection your problem is most likely your firewall

It can't be fixed either. The problem is the takes about 0.34 seconds for a packet to go up to the satelite back back down again. Another 0.34 seconds for a response packet to come back. That's the speed of light to and from a satellite in geosyncronous orbit. Nothing technically can be done about it. It's also the reason why Modulo 128 flow control was added to the X.25 communication protocol way back when.

Just to add my 2 cents, I can confirm this.
I just recently changed from a satellite company to a cable company and my game got much better.
I had the same problems mentioned above (disconecting, not registering direct hits in space, etc.) and since I changed all is OK and a lot faster.
Hope this helps our fellow gamers.
Yeah, satellite technology is very cool, but it just isn't fast enough to support MMO gaming.
That is some great technical info. Is it a hobby of yours?
Advice,
Increase the acceptable packet response time or move to denver.
