Thread: 2 reasons noone goes overt in space
Whatever happened to playing games for fun?
Why must there be a "reason" to fly in space?
Did EQ ruin your idea of what games are all about (fun) and turn it into what it has become (profit/"material" reward)?
What happened here?
Look, I mis-spoke in saying twenty shots . It was not meant to be a literal number. Anyway, not to press the point on you, but if you PvP in space like you say you do, then2 secs is nothing. It's definately not a long time. Lets say your in Kessel and come up on a a nice spawn, 3 or 4 B's a few A's and Y's even a gunboat. You know as well as I do that while your in the middle of NPC destruction, and not paying attention, another overt can pop you with two hits and you wouldn't even see it coming. Lets seehowmany maneuver's you make inthat two seconds. I'm just trying to say in that scenario, I personally would have a more fun ifI had a chance to respond. Even if it was moreequivilant toPvE combat. Which is more like 5 or 6 shots for me on a Tier5 B-Wing. It happened to me the other day. Now, knowing that I needed revenge, (and hoping that dirtyReb didn't hyper space out),I repaired and went overt. I searched Kessel and in less than 3 minutes I found him in the same situation I was in. He didn't even see me coming. 2 hits and eject time for him. Its just my opinion that PvP combat might last a little longer thats all.

Not really, what chassis you use, and especially what engine you put in it is what effects you the greatest.
>>Look, if it takes a player 20 hits to kill another player instead of 1 or 2, that means you have the oppurtunity to make evasive moves and then we're having fun

Not really. What happends when you have two good pilots go against each other is it takes like 10-15- even 20 secondsto score a hit. A second or two in space PvP is a long time. You have plenty of time to make evasive manuvers. The thing is if you make it take 20 hits to kill someone, no one will ever die. No ones going to fly still for you, and In those 10-15 seconds it takes to score a hit, is almost the same time it takes to shunt your capacitor to shield and now your back to square one.

Oddjob,I agree with you there. I should have been more alert. But its hard to keep up that level of alertness for a few hours hoping that you get the chance to fight it out with another Overt. Alas, no one else is in space, except for NPC's. but thats fine by me. I defiantely spend more time in space than I do on the ground. So if any of you play on the Gorath Server feel free to come and kill me. I'll be in Kessel waiting.
*Hits Cycle Enemy Player key constantly* HaHa!

Reasons Why I Go Overt:
1) Best FP/credit ratio I know of even if you're not going to Deep Space or Kessel. I can rack up a few thousand points a night in relatively safe sectors.
2) There is no 2.
Reasons Why I Don't Go Overt
1) If I'm too tired to take the risk of PvP. You need to be alert and on the lookout if you're a solo act.
2) General hassle around organized space PvP. There's no in-game reason to participate in the big battles that are sometimes organized so they're really just for fun or RP but not related to the GCW mechanic. In my experience they take a long timeto organize and are over very, very fast. If you have limited time to be online you might not want to spend it this way. The alternative to organized PvP tends to be disorganized fighter sweeps - cruising around in gangs and jumping FP farmers. This too doesn't do a whole lot for me.
3) Ship decay. Don't like it one bit.
4) Folkswith better ships win more PvP and then play more PvP. They end up with better ships and more personal skill. It's a self-reinforcing cycle. While not as grind-dependant as ground PvP is, and also more immersiveand exciting to boot, there is definitely a gap. In a straight sim situation skill itself can be difficult enough to acquire skill without getting overly discouraged. In a sim situation fuelled by loot and highly customized ships...it's only worse.

Your whole argument is based on if the pilot isn't paying attention?
Thats HIS mistake, and no one elses. If your overt, you should be spamming the Z key every few seconds. Period, end of story. If your not, that is YOUR mistake. Doesnt matter what your doing, you spam the Z key. I dont care if im taking on a 15 B wings at once in Deepspace, every 3 to 4 seconds im pressing the Z key. I got a gunboat stopped, im pressing the Z key.
When you do see them, and you WILL if your paying attention, you'll see them coming at 4KM to 6KM out. Plenty of time. Any decent pilot will switch their focus to the greater threat, and NPCs are no threat when your moving around.
PvP more, and theorize less.
I am however a staunch opponent of drastic PvP damage reduction. Now what exactly you would define as "drastic" is debateable

ill just make this out plain and simple:
1. Overt or not, enemy NPC's attack you on sight. shouldnt the changes to the GCW apply in space to?
2. Because noone else is overt! there is no point in being overt unless you are able to attack other players. the only other players in space that you see overt are the people who are a master pilot with ships that would probably cost like 1000k not even including the cost of the merciless weapons, the impenetrablearmor, and its fast funcitioning systems. if you ever do run into an overt player in space and your overt and you havent mastered your pilot proffesion i suggest hyperspacing to the other side of the galaxy
these are probably the 2 main reasons.
if you think there are other reasons, please post them here.
funny story about that
i go overt in space whenever i can, like you said imps attack me anyways, so i might as well get fp while i kill them back
back to the story: i was overt in my x-wing going to the dant station
i see a player decimator, badly dmged: no turrets and 99% engines & 0% armor(100% shields)
so i tab the decimator and it's overt
i don't hesitate to punch the throttle and open my s-foils
as i swoop onto it's head i pound away, feeling a rush of adreniline
as soon as it's systems & chassis are below 50%, it lands ![]()
then me and the pilot (and his passenger) swap tells saying it aint over
i hope i can finish the job ![]()

I agree with you and Dumicus. Yeah, you get what you deserve for not paying attention as I replied to that fact before either of your posts. My point is falling to the wayside though. If you both feel PvP in space is fine the way it is, thats fine also. I disagree. It just seems.... OH! Nevermind!
Y'know, if they fixed the droid programs like Weapon Overload three.. it wouldn't be so bad.

If you can find a Smuggler who is also neutral Master Pilot preferably a friend. He can take unprogrammed control chips and put his commands in them. Then all you do is load them up in your droid control module, preferably a v6. Then your good to go on capacitor regen and engine overload. I can't recall precisely at this time what the commands are, but i'll look it up and edit this post. Also if you have a Reb friend who is a Smuggler he can program you a chip with the Shield Regen.
