Hey that is CRAZY, especially since I would have expected Lucas Arts to handle the naming and marketing from their departments.

At least they rejected the even less continuous (but possibly more accurate) title: "Turning on the Holly Hop Drive"

are there going to be droids on ships? i had an idea that DE's could make "pilot" droids that could then be used in the crafting of the ship (mostly fighters, i assume) that could repair the ship or add certain pilot skills. that would enhance inter-profession dependence, which you're always talking about.

so i see lots of crap about how its dumb to pull ships outta datapads and how people all want to land in and fly outta starports... starportscan drop dead.. i am only lookin forward to this forone thing..to never have to use public transit again.. i wanna be able to go from point a to b when after my mark.. i dont wanna have to land at some damn port then drive like mad to get to the jerk who had to be a million miles from anyplace to make a cruddy 22000 creds..

and the whole twitch thing everyone likes to cry about.. i myself suck at that for the most part but i must say it will be niceto be offed by a players skill rather than the normal "ooo im UBER!..i have a lightsaber.." (and 50 friends with me) make people work for the right to say kicked yer butt... like i have to all the time with my stupid BH... damn jedi who needs em anyway.................

To cover all the bases I'm posting this here too(since there are two threads here on the same topic.)

Ok I got tired of doing this piecemeal so here is my official(no one cares I know) how to fix Jump to lightspeed. I don't know if I'm in the minority or if others just shout louder, but I'm really disappointed with what has been released info wise for JtL(see other posts here).

Problems I have:

1) Ship cannot be "landed" anywhere.

A) This takes out some role-play options of a ship builder running a repair shop on the "components that can be damage and need to be replaced"(whatever that actually means).

B) Also the fact that you can't recreate situations in books and movies. Such as strategic attacks against groups/placesby landing in remote areas.

2) Take off and landing animation/loading screen.

3) No atmospheric flight/flightto space.

There are a number of other little things, but this hits the major points.

Some of the problems I've seen mentioned:

Lag from people landing anywhere. This is lag from just being parked and lag from ships flying around.

Space used. Some figure the one of the reasons is the same reason we run into with everything else Sony is worried about how much space the data for these things takes up.

Time. Really it has taken this long what is a little more time for something done right?

Grief. There is no attacking ground targets now from vehicles, what says that ships would suddenly be able to?

Fixes:

Landing:

One point I'm not asking to land anywhere. Ships should follow some of the basic rules in place. Ships would follow the building rules of not being able to land within range of a city. If you want to land near a city you have to land at the star port. Ships would have to keep a range from buildings(though PA halls have that cool empty space that would be perfect for a smaller ship to land in. (Iinsert various other building rules here.)They would also be done like speeders as they would disappear when you logged out.

If you wanted to store a ship at a space port or to havea personal landing pad to allow for a more permanent landing spot this would take giving up some of your construction/build spots. 2 of the 9 spots should be good. This would allow you to build a special new building that was simply and enclosed landing bay. The bay itself would follow the rules of a normal building with peaceable/cost/people restrictions. Starship artisans(or whatever they end up being called) could use this if they wanted to RP fixing someone's Ship and components. Or other for receiving goods for "smuggling" and other such activities.

Starport holding would work slightly different this would actually need a redesign of the current starport or a new "Landing Bay" structure added to cities. You(and others if they were flying with you) would walk into a "airlock" it closes, you could open the next door to your landing bay with a code, and step into the landing bay. You only need a few "Landing Bays" to give some depth to this process. The landing bay would load info based on who entered their code. This could be a separate temp instance of azone. This would serve the same as a personal area, but you couldn't have peaceable and such.

Large Star ships that can carry fighters would have landing bays similar to starports.

Take off and landing animation/loading screen and No atmospheric flight/flight to space. These kind of combine into one explanation/fix.

Since "zones" are invisible you need a sky "zone" for atmospheric flight. This zone isn't visible from the ground. We already have the fake ships flying over head so people do need to see the actually ships flying or could see the simplistic view of someone's ship. People in ships would see fake people on the ground. Since you can't attack targets from a vehicles you don't need to see actual people/places just something to give the feel of ground info. In a way you have this already in the fact that a space zone is separate from a ground zone. A sky zone would be a part of the space zones and not ground zones. This allows for those wonderful chase where the rebel is trying to escape from the Tie fighters into space then hope you can calculate a hyperspace jump before they blow you to bits. Then if there are Star Destroyers you would have to fly by them and escape their tractor beams.so you are not pulled into one of their landing bays where a squad of Stormtroopers are waiting to board your ship(or something).

None of this solves all problems, but this allows for a Star Wars experience. Space combat is great and a very important part of Star Wars, but it isn't the everything of having a ship. For some it is the smallest part of why we wanted a ship and becomes one more thing that make this less like Star Wars.

End my 2 cents.

Ok I don't know if this has been pointed out yet 'cause I dont have time right now to look through all of the thread so if it has sorry.

I personally would like maybe 25 more points or so when this comes out. Personally I am maxxed out but I would like to at least foly around a little in a spaceship. I mean c'mon Boba Fett was a master BH and he was still bad-ass in his ship. Han a master smuggler and even better. All I would like to see is a few more points so we can have our ships and fly them too.

Wow this thread is massive *blush*

Okay, I actually have a couple of questions that have nothing to do with the expansion content, but moreso with the expansion itself.

1. Will we need to buy a seperate expansion for each account we have?
2. Will we be able to download this expansion (a la the later EQ expansions) or will we need to go to the store and get hard copies?

I'm hoping for a no and a yes here, in that order, hehe

Things which I think are a -must- for the expansion

1. More than one playerper ship
2. Joystick Support includingthrottle control (imagine being chased out of an area and you just hit full throtal, wow exciting!)
3. PA sized ships

The rest is just a bonus. If you canbring this to us,or at leas try, you'llhave guaranteed yourself a place inHeaven

OMG dude... how freaking kick *** would that be to be 2 people in a snowspeeder and be the gunner attacking AT-ATs... omg ive got wood. I know snowspeeders prolly not going to be in expansion man that would totally rock!!! and on that note... Pleeeeeeease put HOTH into the game!!!

Inter-ship INNERship combat...

Meaning, "We board your freigher to engage in combat"... YOU, being either NPC or player (should one choose to do so).

It would be FUN to capture an enemy (NPC) vehicle/ spacecraft.. Similar to the "Corellian Corvette" by inner-design - picture an assaulting Rebel forcemaking their way to an Imperial freighter or (somehow) to an Imperial Star Destroyer - and BOARDING the ship to engage in personal combat... Once the enemy has been defeated, someone with sufficient abilities would be able to assume ownership of the craft.

Additionally, I would like to see boarding a multi-passenger spacecraft seamless - as entering buildings now are. Then, once on board, be able to roam around a little bit. This would really give the proper "feel" to Starwars Galaxies.

think it might be addicting.

Just please dont mess it up with things like Jedi's throwing lightsabers in spacesuits.

heh, maybe in the collectors edition you get the Queen's cool lookin starship, or some other kick ass ship, like Boba's Slave 1 that would rock, but i imagine it would be a neat ship no one would have, i'm so freakin excited about it, that i made an artisan 6 weeks ago, think of the profits!!!

That and combat on land has totally alienated me to the point me and a couple friends don't even do pvp anymore because of the ingenius, but CHEAP tactics others use, ex. Combat Medic Mind Disease and Rifleman's headshot...to the point you're dead in one or two shots, LET EM IN SPACE, Twitchy combat is gonna SHUT THE GAME DOWN...Mwahahhahaha, there's gonna be alot of whiners this summer, now that's what i'm talkin about
