It sure will be dumb if the SE isnt all pvp...

Someone flying in an Xwing, docking next to a tie fighter, no ability to attack? lol

These factional ships should be full time pvp, with the exception of smuggler and bounty hunter ships because in the GCW they are basically "Neutral"

Who said datapad=pocket?

They would have called it "pocket" if that was the case.

Just take it at face value... This is starwars, not present day.

I pull out my data pad, and call up my speeder, the data is then converted to matter and my speeder materializes......

When I am done, I convert it back to data.

I honestly think that kind of technology will one day be available, but its fiction right now, so who cares?

Why is that so hard to accept?

Also, just because past rpg games have not been twitch based doesnt mean having a twitch component makes this non-rpg.

Massively Online Role Playing Game = playing a role of a character in a game online with a massive amount of people......

Its not about the controlls or the interface, its about the concept... Playing online with the rest of the world.... Playing out a role.. how will realistic controls change this? Everyone is all about "transform mmorpgs with SWG" "new ideas" "new concept"... yet they want everything just as it was in every other mmorpg..

In my opinion, and I respect others opinions, The SE still catogorizes as MMORPG by definition.

this thing looks great, but i was hoping some new planets would be introduced. i mean wouldnt it be cool if we could go to kessel, then perofrm a kessel run. or go to nal hutta and work for the hutt crime lords or something. or even have hoth to visit to help move the rebel base from corellia to hoth by transporting personel there while avoiding imperials. or even with the jedi going public why not dagobah so we can be seek the coucil of the only living jedi alive ... Yoda. since we are playing after the death star and obi is dead there really no msters out there that arent dark or dead.

and dagobah has no shuttle or star ports we would have to find it and make a successful landing.

just a thought

Do the same people who want to walk up to their fighter in a hangar also demand that vehicles are only callable while in front of your house? Get to another planet or city and you're out of luck. Wouldn't want to call things from the datapad after all.

Sometimes realism and cool factor take a backseat to long term playability.

Yeah, actually, I think changing the way vehicles are called would improve long-term playability quite a bit.

Instead of storing to a datapad, I should have an actual garage structure craftable by a master architect that can be attached to my house. If I want to take my speeder off-planet, I should have to pay a fee to load the speeder into the cargo bay of the starship, and there should be a cool animation of that happening. If I don't want to pay that fee, there should be a garage at every starport where I can 'rent' a speeder for a deposit, with an NPC there to haggle with me on the price. Or Master Merchants should have the ability to open a Rent-a-Speeder business in the acres of unused buildings currently in every city, or place one as a player-operated business outside the municipal zone of small starports like Endor's.

This is all the kind of content that the existing structure of the game begs for, but is simply never implemented ... not because it's technically impossible, but because there are simply too few coders working on way too many broken aspects of the base game to devote any time to this kind of cool content creation. It's the most maddening thing about this project -- the unrealized potential.

Hi, *looks shifty*

New to these parts...well signing it.......i'm really really excited about the whole space expansion. But theres one thing that bothers me in all this, we're stuck with the three different factions.....i mean its all star warsy and stuff but.....its too star wars..i mean where are the rogue groups?? why can't we join them? this does have a point...trust me.

I really love this game, so much potential! its my first online RPG, so excuse my newbieness. I've lurked around for many many months. Sorry if someone has mentioned this before, its just something i felt strongly about that could be in the space expansion or a possible. The massive corvettes and star destroyers, why can't we have control over them? or at least smaller ships? it means we can be captains! imagine owning your own Dreadnought *i think its a smaller class ship..please correct me on a pproapriate ship if you can* and having say 5 X wings or some other variaty of ship (in the hanger bay of course...)? you pay 5 pilots to defend you, each of them players.

Which leads onto another thing that came to mind, we're in space...just passing through...space stations! player owned space stations. why not? they are static? they need to be managed (kind of turns it into management but i think it needs to be covered in a game of this scale....since it already has micro management...bases..guild halls). Its part of the experience, thinking about this post, it veers away from the point! THE SPACE EXPANSION! the bestest thing ever! (spelling i know...)

okay i am going to stop now, first posts shouldn't be this long, and considering there are thousands of other people, with ideas and things, mine will just be a tiny little drip in the water.

i have lots of ideas about things just like other people, there needs to be a more dedicated area for that.....(point me the right way if there is hehe sorry n00b)

its just i think it'll rock with space but it's just going to be xwing vs tie bolted on with extras (cool i admit) but i would prefer Star wars galaxies in space (twitchy yay) where i can live the fantasy of owning my own business on there, being part of a pirate group, living from the bountys of others from our hidden station or our ship (name a ship that holds five fighters).

hehe sorry.....little over the top, jumpy, sketchy and likely to be completly ignored.

HURRAH FOR THE SPACE EXPANSION!!!! i love you guys.

Cool! Glad to know it's twitch. Can you imagine a dog fighting game where you just sit there and spam your best attacks?

Oh, wait....I can.....and it's CANCELED!

Yeh exactly. That game was a cool idea, but no fun because it wasn't twitchy. I did not play for more than one weekend then got bored. Twitchy is the way to go. If you don't like it the orginal SWG plays the same and you don't have to buy the expansion.

This is such good news. The fact that the SE will use Xwing vs. Tie as it's model is wonderful. There is no need to reinvent the wheel and I am glad the devs realize this.

I would like to offer up a thought to those who are 'twitch' imparied: MANY if not MOST first person shooter players STINK at air combat. I began my computer gaming obsession with X-wing and Falcon 3.0. When I began playing FPS I found that I could compete and in some I could excel. It was not until BF1942 arrived that I found that many of these FPS kings had no clue about BFM. Tactics and an understanding of your craft's abilities with respect to your opponent's are far more important than any 'twitchy' skills that each pilot may have.

In short, while eye-hand coordination is important it is not the end-all-be-all of spacecombat. Baron Manfred Von Richtofen eschewed aerobatics as being the pervue of a novice. Real air combat, as he said, was all about tactics (i.e. position) and gunnery. (I paraphrased forgive me)

So, YAY! to the devs for making the SE 'twitch'.

Personally I'm a bit dissapointed with the lack of new planets being added. This was a perfect opportunity missed by the developers to ramp up the GCW and provide a launch base for imperials and rebels alike.

Hoth - Rebel pilots should only be able to launch from Hoth Rebel Base. The planet would be Imperial free. No Imperial players or Imperial NPC's except maybe the occasional probe droid Rebels could meet and join squadrons in Hoth and plan joint attacks on Imperial space. The fact that players can launch anywhere in a rebel ship goes against the Star Wars story. Imperial blockades and occupied planets would not allow Rebels star craft to launch.

Kessell - The spice mines of Kessell provides a good trade route for smugglers, resource miners, Slavers etc. Players should be able to pick missions from Jabba the Hutt which invole making the Kessell run

Bespin - The convienient trade city of Bespin, the city in the clouds of Bespin would be the perfect galactic trading post, pilots could meet customise ships and pick up trade missions here.

Just slapping on a space addon with noexpansion of the universe is completly nuts, but I suppose thats another addon we have to pay for. Its a shame becuase how long do the developers think we will be happy just dog fighting in space?

Oh and as far as Twitch-play goes, versus your skills in the new skill trees, I'm assuming it'll work out something like this:

Sayyou have 2 playersflying around in X-Wings, with the exact same stats. The first pilot makes a left turn, and hasfour boxes in Piloting... his turn is very sharp, a better pilot knows better how to operate his ship to the fullest extent. The second pilot, only one box in piloting, can't match the tightness of the first pilot's turn, because he doesn't know how to operate the ship too well.

The flying will be twitch, but I'm sure you'll have performance benefits the higher you climb in piloting skill.

This actually would be quite acceptable, and I'm a non-twitch player. I don't play flight sims or FPS much because I prefer RPGs (hence I'm not much good at twitch). It would suck if all l33t dewd twitchies had to do was get novice pilot then be able to "own" someone not as skilled at twitch but who's character was a Master Starfighter PIlot.
