"Don't know about that. Thousands of people playing Eve-Online would disagree"

thousands? i thought maybe 4 or 5 people tops play that game j/k

i tried EO, got bored out of my skull. just aint mah thing i suppose. i think a twitch system is fine provided that an RPG set of skills has some bearings on teh gameplay as well. which is so far what we have been promised.

I hope there are things to do in space other than fight.

Mining would be very cool, and would open up lots of possibilities. For instance, in Eve Online, some players will outfit their ships for mining and team up with combat-oriented players. They can then travel into more dangerous areas (where the valuable ores are) and mine the stuff.

You also naturally get a class of pirates this way, as other groups of players will team up to prey on unguarded or weak mining groups and convoys.

With twitch-based combat, that type of play would be fantastic.

you can speculate on diff things about the expansion all you want. I truly thing they will try and listen to the public's input and impliment that within reason. I just hope we can name our own ship!!!!!

Here are a couple of ideas that I thought up. Let me know if they aren't new :-D

I know its going to be difficult to take off and land at starports. But what if they do it in a similar way to air traffic control? As you approach a planet you are put on a set route towards the spaceport (this would be signified with a beam of light). You would be free to move within the confines of the beam until you get to the entrance of the spaceport where the computer takes over. Same applies to taking off. Except you would manually take off rom the spaceport and follow the beam of light (or shaded beam, whichever)up to space. Again you would be free to move within the confines of the beam.

I realise the problems of having loads of ships leaving a spaceport at any one time could cause a major lag or other issue problem. To solve this why not implement a similar feature that the game already does. When you take out your ship at the starport, no one else can see it except for you. Once you have entered your ship via the radial or hotkey or whatever. You disappear as if you have boarded the shuttle. You can still see everything around you but no one can see you or your ship. You are now free to take off. The first timeother players can see you is when you have entered space, probably after a short loading delay. The same would apply to landing at a starport. You would appear after leaving your ship, as if you just arrived on the shuttle.

I think taking off and landing is quite a big thing. It was done in Elite 2, all be it not an online game. I know a few people that would get this game when the space Exp comes out. But I know my brother would think twice if there was no take off and landing.

But Jump to Lightspace sounds good to me so far..........

Maybe this has already been answered in the past, but this Expansion:Jump to Lightspeed, it integrates with the current game leaving the players with a bunch of new additions to an already great game right? Or is it a completely different game totally? If the first, why can't the Devs just add it in over time rather than the consumers having to go out and buy something else now. If the latter, then what's going to happen to the original SWG? Could somebody explain the details, because I don't know enough about MMOs to fully understand this concept.

Your first theory is right. This isn't a totally new game (Though from the look/sound of it, it very well COULD be ).

MMOs come out with "expansion packs" which are basically just patches (like we get monthly now) but are too big to download. Imagine having to download the space expansion on a dial-up connection lol

Expansions to MMOs work almost like expansions to other single player games (Such as Diablo II and it's expansion - Lord of Destruction). The expansion simply adds new content, features, and a myriad of other things to the existing game.

So in short: Yes, the Jump To Lightspeed expansion will fully integrate into the existing game and will simply "open up" new content to the game your already playing (Like Lord of Destruction opened up the 5th Act in Diablo II and allowed you to fight Baal )

It looks great. The movie looksfantastic graphically- but I almost don't want to allow the player to be able to view the chase-cam of their starship. I want it to be more simulation than arcade, like the X-Wing series. Also, the cockpit doesn't seem to be displaying too much info...like shields or damage. Once again, I'd like it to be more like the X-Wing series. I want the condition of the ship to correlate directly to at least some sort of user input. Obviously, I am using the X-Wing series as a model, but I don't want an X-Wing clone. I could just go play X-Wing for that. What I don't want, however, is a Massively Multiplayer Star Wars: Starfighter game. Please, make me feel like I'm in that cockpit!

Oh....and the "Hutt Fighters"...please, don't incorporate that name. I don't have a problem with theZ-95 Headhunter (i believe that's the name), used by bounty hunters and other mercenaries (hence the name),and other similar ships, but the Hutt Fighter would seem a little bit too fabricated.

It does look promising, and I am looking forward to it!

Twitchey........awsome :}

(SP?) I hope that this concept remains and doesn't get wined away. anyone else remember scehm relocation in beta?

It was a great concept where all crafters had to rely on other crafters, but ah well, spliied milk, anyway I hope space is what you say it is, I may have to quite my job just to play both the space and ground aspects.

Keep up the hard work Dev's/PC/CS/Test center Folks/ Support peeps, everything is coming along nicley ( not just space)

Or can you say bringing out a Star Wars game that involves space combat right before/after the original Star Wars trilogy DVDs are released? THAT'S where the money is at.

Atmospheric flight? Not going to happen, and what would be the point?

Try this -- take your speederbike to Theed, rev it up to full speed and zoom off the edge of the big cliff behind the starport. Try the same thing from the hilltop fort above Bestine.

Yes, eventually you come down to normal speederbike altitude, but for a while ..... you fly. Ok, tell me it's not "true" atmospheric flight or however you want to characterize it, but it's clearly a tantalizing look at the possibilities that people who were hoping for a truly integrated expansion to accomplish.

A real expansion, not a separate game with some loot that's transferrable to the base game, would mean a very different thing than what we're seeing here. When my starship approaches Naboo, I should enter a Landing Sequence command for the autopilot, and I should see the ship decelerate through the atmosphere (nice little flame effects around the viewport would be nice), descend toward the planet, and transition into low-level atmospheric flight over my destination on the planet (chosen in the ship's autopilot from my waypoints for that planet). I should flare out and land over my destination, open the hatch, and walk out of the ship. That would feel like a Space Expansion that's actually part of the game.

I'm fearing twitchy will equal client side cheats to help out the pilot. Not SWG endorsed mind you, but the kiddies that can't stand getting killed all the time by people better than them. So they go out looking for cheats or maybe they're smart enough to make them, distribute them to their friends, their friends distribute them to their friends etc...

Counter-Strike, Unreal, Doom, BF1942 all twitched based... All rampant with kiddies with cheats and I hate to say it adults with cheats with huge egos that don't like to lose.

Punkbuster is good but not 100%. All the games that are twitched based have some sort of client side cheat that has ruined the game for players that want a fair game but end up having to go out and get the cheats to just compete with the auto aimbots auto move etc..

My 2 cents anyway.
