Thread: A-Wings... kinda suck.
How precise is the laser bolt-chassis collision system?
I mean is it possible to miss a ship by "inches"?
Or does the game draw a general rectangle or somthing around the ship's graphic and if you hit within it, it registers as a hit?

Also, the A-Wing provides less of a surface to impact, supposedly.

Yes, it is. In my own experience, you have to be much more accurate to hit that sucker.

So, is technically harder to hit an A Wing?
I always wonder about the collision system cause it doesnt look like my shots are travelling between the wings and above the pod of a tie fighter.
It looks to me like "close counts"

I have to agree with you. I've spent a lot of time in my A-Wing and X-Wing (I've mastered) and the X-Wing is far superioer. The A-Wing is only marginally faster but does turn much better, however the low mass means that the A-Wing can't carry a decent weapon to punch with and so it takes ages to solo a tier 5. I'mconsidering removing it's armour and other non-essentials to see if I can get a decent gun on it. I was surprised to find that the A-Wing is one of the slowest ships out there when compared to NPCs like droids and imperials, despite my 92+ engine.
This is my A-Wing and i am pretty sure its not the best one... still worked on this one over a week now (and the setup is still not done)
Reactor: 2k Mass 13,5k Energy (RE'ed)
Engine:9.6k Mass 96 top speed (RE'ed)
Shield: 16k Mass 1600 front /rear 11.21 Recharge
Front Armor: Mark 3 Durasteel4,8k Mass
Rear Armor: Mark 2 Duarasteel 2k Mass
Capacitor: 1.6k Mass 860 Energy 38.7 Recharge (RE'ed)
Booster: 3k Mass, 2k Booster Energy, 51 recharge and topspeed 26 (RE'ed)
Droid Interface: 500 mass, 14 droid command speed (not RE'ed becaue ...)
Weapon: 16k Mass, 2.6k Damage, 0.6 piericing to both , refire rate 340, 27.1 Energy/Shot ( not RE'ed yet)
Ordenance : Mark III Concussion Launcher with 5.5k Mass
Countermeasure : Mark I Chaff Launcher with 1.1k Mass
Additional Droid Commands installed from other factions are: Engine Overlaod 3, Weapon Overload 3 and Reactor Overload 1 (cause that was already enough to make my ship fully operational... the reactor overload 1 i mean hehe)
And after putting so much work in this thing (and still not finshed) i started loving my A-Wing haha
And trust me when i see Tier 5 spawns in Kessel or Deep Space i just fly in and rip one after the other without getting a scratch...

(you dont need a sheild that good if you're real fast!
I use a 7k mass, 8 recharge with like 1300 front rear)
Front Armor: Mark 3 Durasteel4,8k Mass
Rear Armor: Mark 2 Duarasteel 2k Mass

RE, RE, RE!! That will save you a bunch of mass!! If you RE'd your parts and didn't get what you wanted, RE some more! I have a friend that has all hard points loaded, a 97 speed engine, and an imperial chip in his droid. His cruise speed is 1200, 1500 with boost, and optimum turning speed is 1002.
He's untouchable! The Awing can be pretty awesome if you do it right.
Exactly, once you gotsome nice REed equipment, the A-wing can become a monster!
Really, i prefer 10 times my A-wingto my X-wing, even in firepower i don't find it lacking...i use the incom tri-cannon reward weapon (2.3k-3.6k damage, 38k mass) and weapon overload 3, i can blow up a tier4 TIE fighter in about 3-4 shots...
But the most awesome thing about the A-wing is to havethe top maneuvrability speed at 80% of max speed compared to only 40% with the X-wing.

the a wing is a fighter pilot's ship. its not for the person with uber gear. allthough nice re'd gear helps, its not needed, and currently i havent had anything re'd (where do you guys go for loot? ive killed TONS of ships and im not getting enough of what i need. i got 5.5million prestige and 4million pilot xp, so ive killed a few ties
if you want to rely on good gear, the longprobe is great and can joust with the best of them. but if you prefer to use skill to tail and hit your opponent, and enjoy pvp, then the awing is your ship.
