Just my guess.

I would NEVER pay over 1 mil for a ship of any type.

not even a death star? if it was available that is

Definately not. Pay 2mil for a deathstar and have some torpedo-happy x-wing pilot blow it up? no thanks. *wink*

Interesting discussion.

I am amazed that people think ships will be cheap. If your ship impacts how well you can do in space, in terms of shields, weapon power, engine quality, etc.. then people will pay BIG TIME for the best. On my server AV 21's sell at auction, still, for 2.5 to 3 million credits. And for what? A fancy car that travels at the same speed as a swoop? It's all about status there....so consider wanting to have the best ship, that is about status AND performance!

I am sure there will be some of the space craft, like the advanced tie fighter, that will be looted schematics or else you will have to be high up in your faction to get access too. Plus, add on components like shield gens, weapons, etc... for the very best will be looted schems. You want a generic ship, like every other noob, that gets blasted in the first 10 min of a space mission? Great, you can pay your 200K for it. My guess is the uber ships, the ones that will really hold their own, will be going for millions. Consider also that once you have your base ship it can not be destroyed. You might need to keep getting it repaird, but it won't be destroyed. So, these won't be disposable purchases, which means the price on these should be pretty high for the best ones. Personally I would have prefered that ships be able to be destroyed like say your swoop....then people would not bonzai so much and would do battle/missions just like you would if it were a real ship, etc... be careful cause you want to make sure your ship makes it home. As it is now, if you have nothing to lose since your ship can't be destroyed, then so what, people will just bonzai everywhere.

One other point to consider. What stats will matter on making these ships? We don't know yet. But a ship taking 55K of resources is one thing if that resource is a 3 cpu to 5 cpu item, but if it requires say the highest OQ and Cond Copper to make the best ship, then those resources might be selling for 10 to 20 cpu on many servers. Suddenly getting a "good" ship takes on a whole new meaning/cost. Certainly you will find people selling low end quality ships built with grinding resources. But would you go into space in a Yugo? Not me, I want a BMW when I am cruising around up there.

Shipwrights will also be required to use existing Skill pts from what I undersand. Because the profession is ground based it will require skill pts. The 3 pilot skills will not require skill pts but the ship builders will. This will cause many crafters to change prof's or free up pts, which will also limit who builds these. Don't get me wrong, there will be hundreds trying to go shipwright...but unless your making the best stuff I doubt they will stay in business for long.

You can run say Janta missions on my server out of Dantooine and make an easy 1 million credits per day. Maybe after expenses of powerups, brandy, etc...your down to clearing 800K a day. Yet people won't pay a million plus for an uber spaceship? I think you guys saying ships will be low priced are incorrect. Sure, some will sell at low price...but on those you will get what you pay for...the high end ship market will be there. I plan to be building some of those on my server, I have over 20 million resources set aside just for ships...obviously some of them won't be needed, and I won't know that until the beta starts and we see what it takes to build these, but I should be sitting as good as anyone to take advantage of it. And yes, I sold mounts on day 1 and I sold speeders on day 1, and I took advantage of those launches as well. It only make good business sense. Don't want to spend the money? Then great, sit on the ground while we all play in space or bring your noob ship up into a few dogfights.....ha ha, you will be right back on the ground then pretty quickly once you come up against a ship with 3 times the firepower and 5 times the shields you have!!!

So you want to hang out ina cantina and brag about how many devalued credits you put up to buy a ship? People like you don't understand that currency in any form (online or real life)is supposed to mean something. If it didn't you wouldn't have to worry about how to get your goods. You'd just get your goods for free if that was the case.

I am willing to bet the farm that factional ships can be bought from factional persons with fp.

But it will probably be a lot of fp.

I agree on the faction part. It's why I made both my characters Imperial Colonels (in case rank is needed to purchase these faction schems, or at least faction points/rank cost) and one of my charactersa Master Smuggler (Master Smuggler/Imp Col can buy faction points at about 100 cpu).

I'm going with the assumption that the actual ship itself is going to be a chasis or "shell" type thing that can accept certain parts to be put in it.

So a YT-1300's resources probably won't be that big of a deal. I think that the Developers already realize and have an idea about how the game's economy works. Afterall, they seem to be decently quick on dupes and massive inflation and tend to nuke the masses of people involved directly or indirectly out of the game. So I doubt they'll implement such a system where you have to be within the wealthiest 10% of the game to afford something you want. Especially something as big and expansive as this.

However, as other people have said, I believe that ship parts and subsystems will be the real kicker. They will be the parts effecting how fast you fly, how hard you turn, how good your shields are, and how good your ship is overall outside of your actuall piloting skill. So they'll probably take the rarest and most specific resources and hence the most expensive.

And let's not forget about Droids. I think all three pilot classes have a line dedicated to droid programs. I don't even want to think about that.

at the end of the day i reckon the devs will increase the prices you get for ship missions etc perhaps so that ships are affordable

I hope they don't. They already see how bad things have gotten in the ground game with mission payouts...nevermind. I'm sure the developers will continue to leave the economy as it is or fubar it up some more.

but do you pay 1 mill for some armor set or some uber weapons ( expect for rare loot)

It is impossible to speculate on prices without knowing resource costs. Would you expect ships to go for 200k if they took 300k resources? Would you expect them to go for a million if they took 50k resources?

There will also be many factors that can't really be looked at.. Supply and demand. There will be a lot of supply at first, since people will be grinding out shipwright. But the demand will also be high, since more people will just want to get their ship together, so to speak, and get into space.

I expect prices will start high, take a dive, then stabalize.

I think that the prices should be from 50k (cruddy z-95 or light hutt fighter but TERRIBLE resources) to 500k which would be the super YT-1300's...Heavy Hutts (more like 300k)...and the stuff that takes the most resources. Thought this is pretty high, i think it is mostly fair. I really hope that people won't be selling YT's for 1 mil and stuff...That's RIDICULOUS!!!

BAH!!!! I'm not paying that much for a ship...even if it is awesome. 600k at the MOST for an awesome YT
