Kaitlin's Golden JTL Rule: This is not the ground game. Don't even think of playing it the same way-- it won't work. You're going to have to readjust your thinking. Pretend, in fact, that this is an entirely new game, and you'll do much better. This is true of both Pilot professions and Shipwright-- Weaponsmiths and other crafters should not expect to conduct business as they have before any more than a TKM should expect to approach space combat the same way.

#2 this goes with the above, but I'll make a special note: Group early, group often. Real groups. Not Solo-style groups. Not only will you HAVE to for some of the missions, but group action provides the fastest XP available, as anyone doing at least 5% damage to an NPC gets FULL XP when it dies. Not shared XP based on damage like the ground. This means that you get the same XP as if you killed a pirate by yourself, except you've got a pile of friends helping you kill it faster.

#3 No need to rush. I know it looks like a lot of XP, but it's not, and you may as well take some time to enjoy the ride. Grinding is terribly dull.

#4 As a Shipwright... I expect to charge steeply for my services. That's the way it is. Ships are expensive to build, end of story. HOWEVER, do not become discouraged if yu can't afford one. Many SWs (myself included) plan to provide options for those short on funds, such as payment plans, barter, work-for-goods, etc. It can't hurt to ask.

#5 Correllary to the above... Shipwrights are probably going to be busier than Doctors and Smugglers Combined(I feel qualified to say that-- I've been a Smuggler, Doctor, and a shipwrght for a while, though the lattermost not in Live... yet). Please don't be pushy. It takes a LOT of work to get everything together for a SINGLE ship, and we're going to have a lot going on for the first week or two at the least. If you see and choose to deal with a Shipwright, realize that they're all likely swamped and have already gotten a few dozen "omg can u make me a ship?" tells before you get there. Make it easy on them for best results.

Hi,

A great starting zone for loot and getting used to the controls is the Asteroid Field directly above tatooine space station.

Combat:

THINK

ANTICIPATE

SHOOT

AIM

Non-combat:

EXPLORE

PARTY

ROLE PLAY

FLY

Don't take too long toline up your enemy, take some shots, get on his tail, anticipate his/her next move, peel off and try again

You don't always have to blast away when your in space either, use your ship to help complete ground based missions you might be running instead of shuttle's. If someone shoots you, fight backor run if you know you can't, else steer clear of the nasties when you're planet hopping

Shuttle's will be sooooooooo yesterday once we're all buzzing around in ships, so get some money, get JTL, get trained, get the free ship and join the elite star traveler's and not bum rides on public transport.

Then work on your space career, some of us may not want to be the ace pilot, just a meansgetting from A to B, and others will want to be the most feared star fighter the galaxy has ever seen

I found that getting out of cockpit mode (into third person?) and watching your ship from behind is much easier to fly around and fight in. When in the cockpit, my sa is lousy and when I get into 3rd person view, it's...um...well less lousy. But that's because I'm kinda bad at piloting.

Anyway, I can see the battlefield much better when I don't have all that cockpit clutter around me. It's very cool eye candy, but I can't fight with it on for anything.

Oh, and another top tip - always bring your towel!

#1: Don't use a male pronoun when referring to Tiggs. She'll likely break out the ketchup.

#2: Your target's displayed shield and armor strength percentages reflect the entire ship, not just the side you're shooting at. Ships can take damage once the shield strength falls to 50%, provided you hit your target all on the same side.

Throttle control.

Everyone must be made aware that in order to fight effectively, you will need to slow down and speed up constantly.

Staying ata singlespeed is asking to be frustrated.

Spend a while just playing with your first ship. Get to know the controls and map them out to what suits you the best. If you have a joy stick play with the settings for a while. Get them just right for you and things will be a lot better for you later on.

Study the ships - learn the components - especially the mass.

The way the ships are set up now it will be very confusing and very intimidating and even frustrating to the novice.

The way the ships and the build out is constructed it is as the old Rolling Stone song goes......

"You can't always get what you want ..... but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need....."

Good luck to all.
