Oh come on. The pilot grind is pathetically short and easy. You just have to do like 2 or 3 tier 2 duty missions and maybe 3 tier 4 duty missions and that's only if you've never aced and its not double exp week.

As a 1x Ace on Double Exp week, I did a whole 1 duty mission for exp at tier 4. Got 1.5 million, added on to my previously held 500k (this is all after being capped at 1 million and then training box 1) and got the last million from the missions. I started the grind over again on Wednesday, I was 4/4/4/4 on Thursday.

As for the first time through, I maybe devoted 3 or 4 nights to it seriously over about 2 or 3 weeks. I spent most of my time doing ground stuff with my girlfriend or doing non-progress quests, like the different station quests. Really, calling pilot a "grind" compared to say, bounty hunter, jedi, or some crafting skills is comparing a toothpick to tree.

So... with the next expansion? Not that they are adding skills to space, just that those of us who aren't CL 80 combat machines are going to become second-class citizens in space, too. "What? Can't fight? That's OK, we'll let you come with us and fly in circles around our Vette while we actually do the mission. And if you're lucky, a few ships may even attack you!"

Probably a little premature to get pissed off about that yet We haven't really seen how its going to work, or how its going to fit into the game as a whole. And either way, they'll still need great pilots.

Ok you guys lost me.

next expansion?

There some other expansion and they announced the details on it or something?

I have 4 master pilot toons, one is FS Vehicle control... no effect.

it's a twitch pseudo sim game up there... no RPG will effect... ever

CL means nothing in space... you can be a noob on the ground and master pilot in space and kick someones @ss...

heck you can be a Tier w/e pilot and kick an ace if you're better than he/she is (and lucky)

It's not going to happen...not now, not ever... that's from the devs...

as for the storming vettes and ISDs and w/e yeah that's a ground instance within space...

If you're a low CL who can't fight on the ground...then just be a pilot... or the MP turret person or w/e...

otherwise don't do the mission... or get an alt to do combat

As for the second class citizen comment, well, to put it simply, if you fly like a second class pilot, you ARE a second class pilot. The space game is where players get to pit their actual skill against NPCs and other players. Giving some players an advantage because they've chosen to go a route that many others want nothing to do with is poor game design in regards to twitch games.

You misunderstand my point. Right now, there is no difference between what I can do in space and what the Crimson Phoenix pilot next to me can do in space (assuming that I am still in Crimson Phoenix, although this is likely to change later today or tomorrow). However, once capital ships are added, pilots who are crafters or entertainers on the ground will be made second-class citizens of space. Nevermind that I am just as good a pilot as you, maybe even better. Since I am not a CL 80 uber-template, I won't be able to pull my weight on these Vettes. Which means that people like me are stuck fling circles around the Vettes after they're disabled (if disabling is even a requirement), waiting for our ground-pounder friends to do the actual quest.

First off, you're making judgements on facts not in evidence. You don't know what the mission will be any better than anyone else.

Second off, If you're not as viable in this situation, it's due to a choice you made for your character, and well, you're gonna have to live with it. Everyone knows the game is tilted in favor of ground combatants.

Third, Pilot is a zero skill point meta profession for a reason. So you are free and clear to be whatever else you want. You may claim a "pure pilot" is a second class citizen, and I would counter claim that a "pure pilot" is deliberately shutting themselves out, and therefore shouldnt have much right to complain.

I must have missed something here. Ok.. for those of us who've taken a month break from the game, and have only been playing for barely even 2 weeks now. someone enlighten me here. What does captial ships have to do with crafters and entertainers?

You can't do any better on a Corvette instance now - or before JtL arrived. So what will the difference really be?

Had you forgotten that Corvette missions already exist, and that they have always been geared to hard-core fighters? How you get there may be different when this change goes through, but ultimately it looks very similar to any current Corvette instance.

And, as others have said, you're basing an awful lot of woe on a short teaser trailer. Wait until we have some real details before wallowing in self-pity.

Hmm some people still not getting it. Let me try to explain. There are plans to put into the "space-part" of the game...missions where you disable a "corvette"-type ship with your own spaceship, then leave your spaceship to BOARD the "corvette"anddispatch all the bad-guysINSIDE with your laser guns, rifles, glowsticks, ball-peen hammers, ice-picks, and what have you. The combat INSIDE the "corvette" will be determined most likely by your characters COMBAT LEVEL. Some people are worried that they will be less effective at this due to not exclusively training combat-oriented boxes for thier character, thus making them "Second-class-citizens" in space
whereas now, it's more of a level playing field no matter what your COMBAT LEVEL is.

So? It's their choice to not have any ground combat skills. They're also forced to group for a lot of content on the ground. I'll start agreeing with you when ALL space content requires ground combat skills.

I didn't say I was worried about the upcoming additions, excessive alcohol consumption has taken care of my "worry-brain-cells". I was just trying to explain why some people feel they may no longer be able to get theTOTALSPACE EXPERIENCE without combat levels like they can now. As to the original poster's question: if you want your ship to handle better...forget all that "Force" rubbish, learn some shipwrighting skills and reverse-engineer yourself some kick-bottom engines!

So we shouldn't add cool new linked ground and space content because some people are only experiencing half the game? If you don't want to make use of content, don't. No-ones going to force you to.
