What level shipwright do you have to be to do this? Does your reverse engineering skill get better as you level?

it gets better as you go up each tree
if you're better at making weapons, then you're better at reverse engineering them

OK, Cool.
Looks like I'm leveling shipwright with an alt then.
Thanks for the info.

I had so much hope for this, the current implementation is not bad but here is an idea for a better implementation:
Everything works the same except rather than getting a finished part you get one of the optional sub-components for the component you are REing. The subcomponent would have stats consistent with causing the finalized component to have the final stats as if it were REed under the current system.
Then you use that subcomponent to build a new component. That way shipwrights have more of a direct involvement in the process and get experience for going through it.
I know it's too late but I think it would have been a better implementation.

I'm still kinda noob at JTL. Can someone explain RE? Where/how do you get parts reverse engineered? How do you know how effective a RE job was? Is it like slicing armor or weapons in that it's either effectiveness OR mass that are effected, or are all stats effected? How do you know if a part has already been RE'd? How much -should- someone pay for a RE job?

it is Quite simple. Literaly all loot you get in space is reverse engineerable. Each piece of loot has a "Reverse Engineering level" wich you can see when you examine it.
The Rev Eng lvl defines how many pieces of the same loot you need to reverse engineer it.
i.e. If you have 5Parts of lvl 5 reverse Engineerables you can reverse engineer ONE piece. Note that the better the loot is the better the reverse engineered item will be. Basically all the best stats of the lootparts will be the new stats for teh reverse engineered item.
There´s a trick with shields for RE´ing.
If you have the rebel shield commands and 2 good shields. Put them in a ship and Transfer all shields forward for one and backward for the second. Making front and rear extremely high. Now when they are reverse engineered your basic front/back rate will be at the max rate you got from transfering (Shield Adjust Front extreme and Shield adjust Back Extreme are the two skills you need to do this.
Dont reverse engineer LVL1 equipment. hardfly wirth the effort
lvl 2 "can" have some decent stuff (caps and alike) but thats a rare occasion.
See that you only keep the best of the best and sell the rest (i.e. to the chassis dealers).
Hope i was able 2 help
Need more help? PM me or /t Bomb ingame
PS: As for the Cash Qurestion. Can´t tell
I never payed for REíng, We don´t charge for it inside our clan.
But Shipwrights get the Disk´s for the Firespry Schematics. Only seldom but that´s the only resource for them. So my best guess is: Most wont charge for it at all. Try asking Tzimovo or Lorraine or Juny if they will RE for you. Tell them i send you ![]()

Thanks, man. That does help a lot. I'm still wondering about how to tell if an item has already been RE'd, though.
Also, I'm not sure I understand your shield strategy- how can you install two shields in your ship? Isn't there only one slot for shields? If you can install 2 sets of shields, how do you independently adjust full front and full back for each? Doesn't the droid program automatically adjust all shields front/back?
Other things: If an item is a weapon of RE level 5, do I need 5 level 5 weapons to REone of them, or do I just need 5 level 5 items of any type (ie. shields, etc)? If they all have to be weapons in this example, do they all have to be the same manufacturer (ie. Sorosub, or whatever)?
Would any old shipwright be able to RE for me?
I would probably contact you in game, as you seem to be helpful with this stuff, but unfortunately I'm on Ahazi server.

- You can tell if an item has NOT been REed by looking for the RE level at the bottom. If there is one, then the item has not been RE'ed.
- You have to use the same item types of the same RE level to RE. So to RE 5 Level 5 engines you need 5level 5 engines. If you put in a part that it not of the same type the RE will not work.
- As far as shield go, you are correct. Only one shield can be equiped because there is only one slot.

An example for you:
I had the following capacitors
1 lvl 6 capacitor with 1240 storage.
1 lvl 6 capacitor with 45.5 recharge, 9300 mass, and 960 power req.
1 lvl 6 capacitor with high armor.
1 lvl 6 capacitor with high hp.
and 2 other lvl 6 capacitors.
6 lvl 6 capacitors total.
With them all RE'd togeather i end up with 1 lvl 6 capacitor with all of the best stats + the RE bouns.
So I now have 1 lvl 6 capacitor with all of the best stats + that bonus and it comes out to:
691 armor
689 hp
about 940 power
about 9200 mass
1289 storage capacity
47.7 recharge
Not all those numbers are exact because i'm remembering off the top of my head. But you can definatly see the value of Re'ing those parts. I also had a lvl 8 shield RE'd and it's now 2555 front/back and 14.77 recharge with only 30K mass. That re alone saved me over 13k mass on my firespray.

Ah, it makes sense now. I don't see any people advertising RE services. I don't think there are any shipwrights in my guild, so I suppose I'll just have to approach random sw's and ask for RE.
I wish I had known all this stuff sooner. I probably wouldn't have been so hasty in selling off so many looted components (and even destroying them in some cases) had I known I needed multiple ones for RE. lol

One question. Say if Iwant to RE level 9 engine, do I need nine level 9 engines of the exact same name or just any engine that's level 9?
