Thread: Tie's have no hyperdrive

Well of course TIE have no lightspeed. If your were a TRUE nerd you would know that the imperials wouldnt want them trying to take off. It also explains why they have no life support and the funny suits they wear.
um if you were a TRUE nerd then you would know that the Emperor desigened the TIE to be quick, manuverable, and agile. Shield gens, armor plating, hyperdrives, life supportthey all slow the fighter down and add to the bulkyness. Also he wanted the advantage of numbers for his fleet. The TIEs were about the cheapest and fastest crafts to build thanks to having them striped as they were. In resalt you get a HUGE fleet that costs little are very fast, quick to intercpet thier targets and are hard to hit. They just don't last as long...

Seriously, this has been posted about 50 times now.

They were heavily modified and the wings were cut up to look more like TIE intercepters. My point was that a TIE can have a hyperdrive mounted to them.
Then no, unmodified TIE's cannot have HD's. They have to be modified to something other than a typical TIE fighter. Do you think the DEV's are going to allow us to "cut up the wings" to make it realistic, No, and that has been the whole point of this thread. THE TYPICAL TIE FIGHTER WHICH WE WOULD PURCHASE CAN NOT HAVE HD'S. Now heavily modified versions can, which are not stock TIE fighters. Give us TIE advances or defenders with HD's, but don't give us standard TIE fighters with HD's.

Ummmmmm can we please stay with the Star Wars facts, TIES have no hyperdrive!
Other questions to consider....
will A-wings be the fastest but least shielded?
Will Y-wings be the slowest but most shielded?
Will Tie Bombers use concussion bombs, in which case the pilot of the bombed vehicle will not die?
this is ony a start please add on...........
TIE fighters can have hyperdrives in EU.
The ideathat theydo not have the capability to support a HD comesfrom where? I suspect yall pulled it out of a dark hairy flagelence emitting oraface.
I am on record saying that a TIE fighter should have hyperspace ability in order to travel planets and space zones. I do not think hyperspace jumps should be allowed in combat for anyone. If there is a hyperspace jumping during combat Ihave no problemwitha TIE being at a disadvantage, this type of discussion is for Beta and Devs and really is pointless to have here and now. I don't think givingprivatley built/owned/modidfiedTIE's this hyperspace ability really destroys continuity or causes cookie cutter ships with different skins. A TIE could have diminished HD abillity, weaker shields., etc. ( all ships are upgradable but not to the point you can max all stats and base stats will vary by ship too)
A player owned TIE fighter is different than an NPC TIE fighter just like any player owned ship will be different form an NPC ship. Slightly larger, slightly less agile, slightly different is fine. I don't care if the NPC TIE's are different along those lines because I guarantee they will not fly the same as a player owned ship, just like no NPC ship will fly like a player owned ship, just like NPC's have radically different HAM's etc. than PC's, etc.
If you must rectify this in your minds because you have continuity mental block than a player owned TIE Fighter is not a TIE fighter. It is a privately built TIE rip off that closely resembles a TIE fighter and is commonly called a TIE fighter, but it has a hyperdrive and is upgradable and it is not even built by Sienar Flight System or in dedicated Imperial service so it can't really be a TIE fighter. Everyone who calls it a TIE fighter is wrong, but everyone still calls it that anyway.
If you still have hopeless continuity menstral syndrome that causes you to think their is no way a ship with a Hyper drive could look anything at all like a TIE fighter than you are simply an irrational person who is crying like a baby over something very trivialbecause you want things to be your way no matter what because you are convinced you are right and no one will cahnge your mind.
All ships, even the basic piece of crap you get for buying the expansion needs to have some Hyperdrive ability to travel.
anyway looks like this thread didnt have any impact anyway... the DEVS are keeping the hyperdrives.. nice try everyone

WHY are you so damn concerned with added hyperdrives to TIE's changing the look of the ship? It that a BAD thing that the look of the ship will change? How come you aren't whining about the picture of the X-Wing with the crazy big engines on the back? How come you aren't pissed about that? I mean the ship LOOKS DIFFERENT NOW.
But as soon as you try to add a hyperdrive to a TIE and change it's appearance "OH NOS, BREAKING CONTI-**edit**ING-NUITY!!!"
Bottom line, who gives a **edit**? Let the Imperials have hyperdrives too. I bet you're the kind of guy who watches action movies and says stuff like "No way he could jump that far," or "dude he totally fired that shotgun more than twice." Grow up a little and stop caring about meaningless crap.
You're right in that continuity is just totally borked in this game...they botched it up a long, long time ago.
The only thing I'd say regarding your post is that X-wings do have hyperdrive engines in the movies, and normal TIE fighters do not. It's clear that all player ships in JTL need to have hyperdrive....there's no way around it. So, they kind of had no choice in the matter. It's just yet another slap in the face to the attempt the devs made at continuity (and they have said many, many times that they are trying to stay true to the Star Wars continuity timeline).
Having said all that, I agree that we should drop it and move on. Every ship has hyperdrive, as it should.

As long as we're throwing continuity out the window, why not give each TIEthe Death Star laser? You know, the one that destroys planets?
Or, even better, maybe just rename hyperdrive to "warp drive" instead, and give TIEs phasers and photon torpedoes.
It's bad enough that the word "continuity" really doesn't apply to SWG whatsoever...but can't they at least make some sort of effort to kinda sorta maybe follow the movies a little bit? Sheesh.
