This thread is still going? Sheesh. I thought what I wrote below was pretty plain and simple. But, here it is again, for those that might of skipped it.

I really couldn't read all of this so sorry if this has been said.


I originally didn't like the idea of TIEs having hyperdrives either but think of it this way:


You won't be buying your ships from the Empire, but most likely from a shipwright, so its a custom version that includes a hyperdrive.

yea what he said...theres no such thing as a ship that has it all. SO yeah mabye you guys WILL get hyperdrives but thats with the sacrifice of your weapons and shields. On the other hand X-Wings will be able to get all of these but get ALOT less manuverability. So yea even with all that **edit** on a X-Wing a skilled Tie-Pilot can take one out easy with his small and nimble ship. As long as this game follows the movies for this expansion im happy..and the movies always showed the rebels having an advantage at the FIGHTER level, but a large disadvantage at the CAPITAL ship level. Again there will be balance in pricing alot more expensive to get a outfitted X-Wing then a cheap Tie with guns. So if you look atthe big picture ofit allit is balanced... and it should follow the movie. If it wasnt balanced the war between the imperials and rebels wouldnt have lasted SO FREAKIN LONG!

I remember rebs complaining about the imps witrh AT-ST's and the Imps gloating on the awesome ground power. My replies to those folks was always "wait until the space expansion, the rebs will then have a advantage". I think its funny as hell how imp players are complaining how they wont have every single advantage in the game if they don't have shield generators and hyper drive units.


The rebs deserve to have an advantage somewhere in the game and it happens to be in the JTL. So dev's, think twice before you add hyper drives to those tie's because rebs have had to deal with all the imp advantage on the ground since the start of this game.

I have a couple of points.


If TIE Fighters (that's bog-standard TIE's, not Advanced or any other model) are bought from Imperial Suppliers then as stock they will have no shields and no hyperdrive - but that's not the same as can't.


I can't remember which series of books (maybe the Corellia trilogy), butthere were ships known as 'Uglies' and these were heavily bastardised versions of known fighters. For example there was an X-Wing's body with TIE wings attatched to it. Therefore it's fairly safe to assume that TIE's could be butchered in such as fashion that shields and hyperdrives could be added - after all, there nothing to stop you sticking a NOS kit into any car.


Personally, I would go for a more advanced model of TIE which does have shields and hyperdrive but I can't see why non-Factional TIE's couldn't be heavily customised.


If everyone doesn't want to see classic TIE Fighters being flown by players then keep insisting that they cannot have hyperdrive or shields - cos let's face it, why would anyone want to fly an easy target? If you want JTL to be nothing more than X-Wings vs TIE Advanced then keep up with the comments. Hell, why do you think everyone wears composite armour?


There are no viable PvP armours than composite - do you want there to be no viable PvP space fighters other than X-Wings and TIE Advanced as well?

actualy it has nothingto do with that....TIE had no hyperdrives because the TIE was made to be very very cheap to build so the empire could have 3 TIE's or more for every X-wing in any battle....



It was all about cost and quantity...not running away.

Different parts can physically alter the craft. In this case, the comic book reference to hyperdrive-equiped TIEs had them with a boxy protrusion attached aft of the cockpit.


You are entirely correct... a TIE has very little interior room. It's all in how you accessorise

Unnerf ATSTS, make stormtroopers much more powerful, make imperial bases much harder to take down than rebel ones, change the population of all servers so that the imperial to rebel ratio is 5 to 1 and we'll talk about your "rebel space advantage".

Kinda funny that rebels whine about any ground advantage imperials have but then rush to cry about rebels not having a space advantage.
