Hey TH, can we put vendors in ships? I think that would be cool for the bar when I open up my buisness.
Just a follow up on two items - - Vendors will not be allowed in space. Sorry, but there are technical limitations.
There are also technical limitations with having more than one multiplayer vehicle decorated at the same time. That won't be possible. I wish it were different, but it can't be. Sorry.
TH,
you really need to tell the SWG Project Manager to sack your Database developers. Throughout my time in this game I have heard aboutnothing but terrible fundamental errors with your database design and this is yet another one. Don't give us this "technical limitations" nonsense because it's simply not true.
The company I work for has Oracle databases that hold information about Nuclear Plants and most of this information is legacy stretching back 50 years or so. For each plant every single thing is stored, even down to individual pipes (i.e. supplier, material, positioning, etc). I know full well what the extent of database storage can be so your excuses don't wash.
The SWG development team seem incapable of realising even the most basic fundamentals or relational database design, so here's a lesson to pass on to your developers.
Let's call this Lesson 1: Relational DB basics.
tablePlayers
playerID
playerName
tableItemsPlayers
itemPlayersID
itemTypeID
playerID
LocationID
tableItemType
itemTypeID
itemType
tableLocations
LocationID
LocationName
LocationTypeID
tableLocationTypes
LocationTypeID
LocationTypeName
So now we have a list of players, and items are related to a player and items are in a particular location - simple huh?.
So we could have a location type of YT-1300, one of Sorosub, one of small house, one of back pack and so on. My item of Small Chair 1 is in my YT-1300, whilst small chair 2 is in the Sorosub.... kinda simple huh?
And before you jump to defend this accusation, explain why when someone had to change their in-game name, they couldn't keep all their items? In a relational database that name change should only affect a value in one table and not the relations between tables.
Instead of saying things can't be done, why can't SOE just bloody hire people who know what they're doing.
Absolutely unbelievable.

Sorry that i could not be more help to you but most people would like to know about this stuff as well so you are not alone.

Didn't bother digging through the 13 pages to see if this was answered but
1) What are the item limits on ships? Only the beta people know that.
2) What are the passenger limts? Only the beta people know that.
3) Do all multiperson ship have the same item/passenger limits? Only the beta people know that.
This is very poor. Just when I thought things were looking up a little. I read the post about this ship and thought "this is really cool. Maybe there are some reasons to stick around and buy JTL (for my FIVE household accounts)". There are just too many restrictions. SOE needs to upgrade the hardware and INCREASE database size. We should get more item counts in ground structures (Developers can decorate an entire guild hall, but players can't). Having multiple ships is great, why can't we have multiple decorated ships? And now this really cool one won't participate in combat or be upgradeable? SOE doesn't have long to pull it's act together before its competitors push them out of the way with superior product. It's these types of issues that really aggravate the player base.

Thanks. I wish I had a better answer, but the technology just isn't there yet (in general). The hard decisions here were driven by technical concerns and development challenges.

Oh well. I'd hoped that was an easy fix. I guess we'll just have to pick our favorite ship and stick with it for now. Thanks for looking into it and letting us know.
That sucks. Guess I'm not decorating my imp multi-craft.
Actually, if you want to use both, you're not decorating either the yacht or the imp ship. Put one piece of furniture in one ship and the other one cannot be launched. Horrible.
Oh yeah. How crappy.
So ... let's see if I got this staight ...

If the design you're hearing about seems weak and unsuited to the game, then express your opinion on that ... loudly and repeatedly. Eventually it has a chance of being heard by the people who are technically adept and there's always a chance (however remote) that they'll hear, listen, and adapt.

Yes, these are the only two outlets, but it should be available in their stores as well as online. If it helps, I know that there are EB's just across the Niagara River

Because in Canada shipping fees are just insane

Yes, you can put furniture and anything else you could place in a player structure on the ground.
You can only launch one multiplayer ship at a time though and you can only have "stuff" in one multiplayer ship at a time. So If you are flying around in your YT-1300 and want to land and Head out on the Yacht, you will have to empty the first vehicle of all it's items. Otherwise players would load up both ships and it would lead to a lot of dead database space.
I can understand why you say this ... but I strongly disagree with it. Free up the database to allow for it (of fix the other technical issues). If you give us the ability to have the YT-1300 to hold stuff AND the Yacht as a Veteran Reward ... let us deck out the reward & utilitize BOTH ships how we see fit. As it stands now, it appears you say "Decorate the yacht...but keep your combat ship empty" (presmuing we can actually launch the other with the yacht decorated...but I don't think that is the case either" ... which leaves us to "Keep both of the ships empty"

TH,
What do you mean by "This point of treating it "as normal" will keep the door open for expanding the role of the Lux Yacht in the future, too."?

This "hard decision" essentially says that because you haven't solved a storage issue that players have been screaming to get fixed since launch only about 1% of players will actually use what is possibly the coolest looking ship in the game and all the time that went into making it unique will be essentially wasted. It doesn't make sence to me how a search engine like google can store every word currently existent on the Internet in a database that can be searched in less than a second to come up with that one obscure keywork I'm looking for but your database can't seem to hold data about a few thousand characters without choking (each server has its own DB, right?).
I'd love to use this ship... I think it would be a lot of fun to take out every now and then, but if I have to choose between a combat craft that will probably be used quite frequently and a luxury part ship that will be used once in a blue moon... well, sorry about the time you wasted.
What is just as amazing is that other games that are much older than SWG have just as much if not more items and even have to remember little details like where in a pack items are stored... yet are much faster and more reliable. Perhaps it is time for SWG to get a grown up database.
