Thread: Jump to Lightspeed thread
Just to add to the comments. When first thinkin of coming to play SWG on the us servers we were playing EVE. No real flight there and we had come from Jumpgate a game that proves the twitch full on skill flight based MMO rp game can work. We talked and talked about SWG because we are hands on joystick flight types from xwing tie on the zone all those years ago.
"Wouldnt it be great if the space exansion they are talking about will be like Jumpgate" .."never happen , its absolutly perfect, but itll be like EVE" . Shame we thought , oh well cant have everything.
Look what they are preposing to give us , Jumpgate in SWG , I am extatic . Its like all my birthdays have come at once.
Im sure this will launch SWG into the stratasphere . What other MMO gives you every possible kind of experience online with your m8s.
*Bows to the devs* for their forsite in giving us real time skilled piloting . I hope it lives up to the hype..please ...
Q-3P0,
I can understand completely the secrecy being kept with reguard to details on the Space Expansion. However, you do understand a lot of players are staying with Galaxies solely to see if the Space Expansion will keep them playing?
If the expansion does not meet thier expectations of the typicalSWG playerthere is going to be a mass exodus from the game. The developers need to keep in mind that once they demo the expansion, players are going to express concearns and desires.A forum for expressing such concearns needs to be made, a developer must be thereto offer feedback, and the Space Expansion team needs to be flexible enough to revamp issues.
The developers and player community faced this problem when Galaxies first came out in that specific game details were kept secrect till the last moment. Players spoke up about problems with such issues and by then it was too late to go back and change these matters. It has been a matter of playing catch up with profession revamps and imperial crackdowns ever since. I feel it may be the kiss of death this time around.
I know you have a lot of professional programmers, game designers, and marketing staff who know how a game needs to be run and how an expansion should be released, but Star Wars Galaxies is different from any other game out right now. It is a game designed for the player who wants to shape and effect the world they are in. If that player cannot at least have a voice in changes and features that will directly effect his role in that world he will simply move on.

I want candid shots! Candid shots of flying through space aimlessly and/or combat. Not these set-up shots.
/agree
These screenies are intended to pique your interest, and to someone who doesn't play SWG they might do that. But for us players who want to see the 'nitty gritty' then these screenies are a bit of a disappointment.
OMG i cant believe that u guys are realy complaining about the screenshots!!!!!!
Cant u just be gratefull for finaly getting some new info + some nice shots?
As i can see....nope, u cant..... looks like u are morethe "the world turns arround me, what i want has to be done first" guys.......![]()

Great work Defs!!!
I'm glad it's twitch based too. I just heard that the number of broadband people has grown exponentially in the last year, and that we can finally abandon those cheap-o 56kers. Now online gaming is going to get REALLY interesting.
If SWG was completely twitch based, it'd be the greatest game ever. Period.
I don't have the time (or the desire) to learn every little stat, every macro (which isn't gaming anyway), spend years building a character, etc. I've finally realized that MMOs won't bring in casual players until they become more like twitch based 'instant satisfaction' type of games. Combat should feel like combat, not dice rolling. Modifiers should come into play as far as movement speed, reload times, weapon certifications, etc. So there can still be advancement.
We were told that even newbies who were lucky could take down an advanced character. What a joke that's turned out to be.
If the space expansion is twitchy, then maybe we'll see more twitchy MMOs. SWG2 better be really twitchy, or I'm not buying. I was seriously considering cancelling my membership until I saw this announcement. Let's see...
My guess is that the fighter/bombers will only be available from recruiters and purchased with FP. Probably around the amount of an AT-ST currently. Freighters and transports would be player crafted ships.
That could all change though if they decide to make faction armor craftable by players (as they should). In which case the X-Wing or TIE schematics would be avaialble from recruiters, maybe for 2500 or 5k FP.
Someone in a post far above voiced a with that the SE would include a large scale patch to cover the numerous nagging but not game-breaking bugs with the ground game. Realistically, that could never happen. That would basically force everyone into buying the expansion whether they wanted it or not, in order to imporve the core system.

Are there going to be space stations (like current cities), player owned/run space stations and space residence available.?
Holy s*** that's a good idea!
If I could live IN space ON a spacestation, I could really care less about walking around in my ship!
That'd rock! Can you imagine your own small Space Station way out in Sector X? hehe, I have a new dream!
Well then Saabotage, you will be mad =). Devs already stated atmospheric flight will be undoable. As far as interiors on freighters...who knows. Might be possible, they haven't said yay or nay on it yet.
Think for a moment... with atmospheric flight, the lag would be horrendous. Remember the debacle with the speeder bug? Tons of speeders lying out in front of starports. Those were smaller to render. Spacecraft are larger textures to render. Yes it would be cool to fly over planet surfaces, but it would kill the gameplay. Coronet would be awful to travel to. With the amount of people that visit that city, all those ships flying in, would drop the players into a permanent 1 fps.
I hope we get interiors. The idea of declaring a residence on a ship sounds great. Just don't know if the technology is there yet.
Yeah I too want to be able to land anywhere on the surface of a planet, just like in episode one when the naboo cruiser landed outside of the city as not to attract attention.
