Is this older ram? Is it DDR or or sd ram? What speed is it? Your MB may not support the type of ram your installing.
here is a great link for you.

FDD 1.44MB NEC|FD1231H-302 OEM BLK
865p- This chipset supports fsb speeds of up to 533mhz, and can support dual channel ram. The maximum speed memory it can accept is 333mhz/pc 2700. Not as upgradeable as the 865pe/g/875p.
865pe- Just like intels best chipset, the 875p, except PAT is disabled. (Description of PAT: http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/pat.htm ) Supports fsb speeds of up to 800mhz, and can support the new prescott core processors when they arrive. Also supports dual channel ram. The maximum speed memory this can support is 400mhz. Recommended for near 875p performance.
865g- Good choice for budget computers because of the integrated graphics. The same as the 865pe, except this has the integrated graphics. Also the graphics are upgradeable by the agp8x port, so if you do buy a motherboard based on this chipset the graphics may still be upgraded by disabling the graphics in the bios when you get a graphics card.
875p- Intels best chipset to date. Same features as the 865pe except PAT is enabled

Yes you can upgrade it, I have a dell and a custom built one. On the dell I have added more memory, a new vid card, another hard drive and a dvd writable drive. I could do more with it but I am currently building a new custom job that I will be using asa gaming rig.
1.) I have 2 systems currently going on SWG.
a.) Dell Dimension 4300
P4-1.6 400Mhz
512K SdRam 133Mhz
256 GeForce FX 5500 (4xAGP)
250W Power Supply
b.) E-Machines T2692 (Upgraded)
Intel Celeron-2.6 400Mhz
768K DDR 333Mhz pc2700
128 GeForce MX4000 (PCI)
350W Power Supply
As for the DELL machine......I'm pretty pissed because it can only handle 512K RAM max. I'm hoping to upgrade the board and chip soon, I'm waiting to see how this new PCI-Express craze unfolds. The best thing going for it is the 256 video card. It still drags A$$ anywhere near a city on a busy night, but it was much worse when I only had my Radeon 64MB 7500 running the game. I get a lot of stuttering as well, even in open areas. I will be upgrading this system in the next few weeks.
As for the E-machines......Pissed again because it did not come with an AGP slot.....(again, more terror from the "package deal pc").....it came with 256K DDR RAM. I upgraded to a PCI video card..128K GeForce, bought a 512K stick of kingston RAM (768 Total). Even though most people hate Celeron Processor, this system runs a hell of a lot better then my P4, granted it's got 256K more RAM. I also upgraded the Case / Power Supply for the e-machine that had a 350W PS, instead of the 200W that was on the OEM emachine box. I see some people post that they are running Celeron chips with only 256K RAM and they get a little drag....**when I tried this, it took me about 5 damn minutes to get off of my bike and into the Karen SP to get a ticket....RIDICULOUS** So I figured it was either the fact that there was a PCI card running the game, or that I needed more RAM....I went with the RAM idea first, and thank goodness it seems to have done the trick. I went thru the Coronet SP about 10 times to test out the speed, being as this is the most populated area on the server (Intrepid) and it worked great. I got down to 7fps, but it never lagged on me...I was very impressed. I think going to 1GB of RAM will really complete this system, but I am still contemplating ditching the chip and board for some AMD stuff.....we'll see.
Good luck to everyone and their upgrades, and thanks for all the input in the previous threads....I'll be checking this thread to see if I can find more info in helping me to upgrade the Dell machine; however, I may just scrap everything but the Video Card.
