You know what really hurts emersion Kyeran Halkyon? When morons like you take names from EU and change a few letters and think you can get away with it...

removing the animation and eye candy of jumping to lightspeed would probably be one of the biggest blunders the developers could possibly do. I definately want to experience the worm hole effect and streeking star light enveloping my ship. They did this in X-Wing Alliance and its absolutely rediculous that they would conceive that we would accept some crappy little jump to light speed click box and then a load. That pretty much ruins the whole exhiliration ofhyperspace. NOT HAVING THE HYPERSPACE EFFECT IS INSANE. It is one of the most recognizable features of the star wars universe and should be represented properly. Do Star Wars some justice. If a developer is reading this thread, I plead that you reconsider this load box deal. You really need to capture that feel of hyperspace and a load box will not suffice. Isn't there any way you could stream data that needed to be loaded during the blue worm hole effect of hyperspace...or at least give us several seconds of it in real time followed by a reversion to real space in the appropriate manner. Also my two cents on load points....Wouldn't it make more sense to be able to jump to hyperspace in a wide variety of locations. This wouldn't effect gameplay as long as you provided a delay effect where the nav coordinates are being calculated...That way you wouldnt have people abusing the feature but you wouldnt have these corny "nav points" as far as I know nav points do not fit continuity at all. They were used thousands upon thousands of years before the game's timeframe when nav computer's werent as sophisticated...and anyway it would feel much more realistic to have your computer calculating the jump to lightspeed then thinking i got to get to the nav point over yonder so i can click my load box and magically appear in another sector. This sounds like mounts and vehicles all over again...and look how much better it is being able to call them anywhere with just a small delay in time. The game is much better off. Hopefully the devs will listen this time.....

"huh,
what do you mean?"Kieran Halcyon was an alias used by Corran Horn in the book I, Jedi and was also the name of his true grandfather.
It sounded like a cool star-warsy name to me, and since during this time-frame it was little more than an alias, I figured a variation of it would be fitting, particularly as my personality is fairly similar to that of Corran's. I figured a derivation of an alias name used in the EU would be adecent Star Wars name that not many would recognize (I've met 3 people total in-game who recognized the name) that wouldn't be a rip-off of anymajor character name.
Why this is sooffensive and 'immersion breaking'to someone when their are thousands of people runing around with names like: Pizza-the-Hutt, Dark-Helmet, ownzorz, noobie, pant-face McDoofus, etc is beyond me.
Evidently this is a detail that isimportant enough to derail the thread and void my point (which was kinda voided earlier anyways, since it wasconfirmed we'll see the hyperspace animation by the devs.
)
Anyways, back to Hyperspace!

5. You can fly yourself from sector to sector, thus planet to planet.
True. We'll likely have you launch into space around your current planet and then pick a planet to visit, via a hyperspace map. You'll then see the hyperspace effect and travel (during a loading screen) to the space zone around your destination planet. There will be some risk of danger/combat in the zones around planets, but our goal is to let you travel quickly and freely between planets.
He said this in the E3 thread. ![]()

Yep, that's what I've been referring to. ![]()
I still wonder about leaving hyperspace though...
Although I'm alot less concerned about it than the animation for entering it (to the degree that I won't be that dissappointed if you just load in and you're there.)

Somewhere I believe one of the Devs stated (I think it was the E3 follow-up thingy that was recent posted here) that the loading screen in space would look like the hyperspace stars. WIth the stars shooting by really fast.

Ok so TIES don't have hyperdrives.
For hyperspace (since you arent steering anyway)
Why don't you have cut scenes, or even timed intervals to do other things.
Make it so there are star destroyers and frigates in the battle zones, or near them.
When you move from a zone you get the cut scene showing your TIE going into a star destroyer (or rebel ship w/no drive into a frigate) and then you show up at the other zone. People with the drives get the scene with the lights.
Or Instead of cutscenes you allow the people to walk around on board the frigates and destroyers for a little while (put med rooms and cantinas on board maybe some pilot trainers).
Eventually it would be cool to allow player towns to generate their own smaller capital ships, like corellian corvettes and such. I guess thats the third expansion pack though

After about the third viewing of the cenematic I'm sure people would get annoyed with it and stop watching it. I'm sure hyperspace will be a message box like the ticket terminal then you goto a loading screen.

we just get the same loading screens as we do now. not a bad thing i think what the previous poster said after seeing the thing 3 - 4 times i would be so annoyed

Actually TH stated that you would see a Hyper Drive loading screen. I am glad they are at least doing that. I agree though I would probably get tired of seeing that screen after about 4 times. This gameis just dying for more media content (ie. intro movies, music, special Impire videos from factions Vader, Emperor). C'mon SOE this can be done and should not be that difficult to implement. The story arcs should definately be in FMV, CG, or in game graphics with actual spoken words not a comic book layout.
