B-Wing should be somewhere between X-Wing and Y-Wing in handeling but cloer to the X-Wing. The B-Wing is meant to be just a little slower and a little less manouverable than the X-Wing but is meant to make up for this in Shields/Armour/Firepower. However it is still meant to be a nice Fighter and better than a Y-Wing in all departments!

Really ships need a Armour/Shield Modifier as well as an Engine Modifier.

In that case lets just make every ship in the game feel like the A-wing, fight like a Star Destroyer, and be indestructable so everyone can win the game. Then no one would complain until everyone figured out allthe ships handle the same, and everyone is flying B-wings. Reminds me of composite armor.

The B-wing is an upgrade to the Y-wing in the fact that it holds 4 cannons, and 2 missles. Its a SUPPORT BOMBER not a dog fighter. Cut your throttle back to like 30-40% and you can turn pretty good...much better then if you were at 90-100%. They made the b-wing like this so that it wasn't the "End all, be all" ship.

Ummm.... 2 thoughts:

1.) Basing ship role on an old game isn't very wise. Personnaly id use the "offical word" (starwars databank for example) rather than a 2nd or 3rd generation interpretation of the ships.

2.) This isn't X wing Alliance.

Yeah, JtL is no XWA, XWA is10 times better in gameplay and everything else except graphics. And who's talking about ship role? I'm talking about ship handling. Not saying B-wings should handle like the TIE Interceptors, but it should handle better than it does now in JtL; should handle only a bit worse than the X-Wing.

If this were XvT or XWA, the newbies' heads would've exploded by now.

What reference are you basing your judgement on?

Sorry, im just a bit credulous anytime anyone cites how things "should" be. It's like ya? says who? You? or some official source somewhere?

Of course hey, if someone with an imperial avatar wants to buff a rebel ship.. who am i to argue.. sure.. why not! Let the B handle better

Based on the critically acclaimed X-Wing series of games isn't enough for you? Those games are a benchmark and good reference point for other Star Wars space sims that come after.

Nope!

Im that credulous.

Sure, ive played them, (Xwing, Tie fighter, Tie fighter:defender of the empire, XvT) but...
where did they get THEIR info from? theres an offical source somewhere that everything is derived from. Thats where the buck stops. Although i will concede the Tie fighter series seems to have followed the extended universe pretty closely.

Sad thing is, im not star wars nut, this forum is turning me into one

EDIT

You do know that theso-called Extended Universe includesgames like the X-wing series, don't you?

The B-Wing should not handle well...at all. It is a heavy bomber.

However, it should handle better than the Y-Wing, as the B-Wing was the upgrade.

us 'rebs are just mad cause we dont get a good heavy fighter. if the bwing is gonna have the same ypr as a nova, than the tie-opp and rhik should also. i would rather see one hardpoint taken away and it made more manuverable than a y-wing, than it turn like a nova and have a forth gun that you cant hit anything with anyway.

as it is right now, a longprobe can dish out more damage to a target and survive longer than a bwing.

the ONLY thing a bwing does better than a longprobe is killing gunships. since gunships are large targets and you dont have to hit a small component to do dmg, the fours guns can all be used. you still will never find a cap that will support four guns firing though, and my longprobe will kill a gunship very quickly anyway, all while being able to fend off fighters too.

The TIE Oppressor has much less mass than the B-Wing though, so why should it handle like the B-Wing?

People obviously can't seem to manage to understand something.

Simply put, the Y-Wing is supposed to be somewhat balanced, it's not a true bomber, it's not a true fighter. The B-Wing is supposed to be a slug that can tear apart a Capital ship (Given that the B-Wing doesn't get torn apart by Fighters first)

Besides that, I've seen people in B-Wings who can hold their own against Tier 5 Interceptors and Agressors, and don't expect ANY Bombers to be any good at PvP fora long time - In your case, it's not the ship, it's the pilot that sucks.
