the starting level ships take at least 30k of resources to build. there is no way your going to get it for 15-20k with all the components and everything especially since its a crafting proffesion where resources matter. a whole suit of armor cost around 300k. and starting ships arent the equivalent of bone armor
Are you talking about the entire ship with components?
table of resources<*/A>
as you can see 15k in resources for most starter ships chassis

yes if you craft all components with the craftable upgrades for you ship then yeah it takes at least 30k resources cause you have 2 weapons,a capacitor,reactor/engine,armor,shields, droid interface(not neccisary). plus to get good results you need the high oq and conductivity resources that sell on average 5-10 cpu. the difference between 500 oq and 900 oq is noticable so it just depends on how much your willing to spend.
i talked with alot of crafters about selling prices and basically you have to incorporate resource cost(running harvesters buying resources), factory time. and the time it takes to craft stuff. with the number of components needed for a ship its pretty time consuming if you run these in factories plus it takes about 30-40 minutes to craft an entire ship plus the delay if you use bespin port and what not

Shipwrightswill definatly need to be kept in check, or just let them shoot themselves in the foot like architects did, either one works.

Architects screwed themselves when they decided to start selling houses at 2cpu.

I don't think prices will be a problem early on. Oh sure, in the first few days prices may be insane as people will money will pay any price to be the first to have a KY-Penetrator (or whatever it's called.) But it seems like about 1/3 of the people I know are going to try their hand and shipwright so I suspect that in the next couple of weeks supply will actually exceed demand and prices will plummet and you'll be able to pick up a shiny new W.T.F.-2000 for dirt cheap.

Heck, I pre-paid our guilds up and coming SW 1.5mil just so he could get started. Of course I get cheap ships now, but atleast he has some cash to start with now.

The resources don't need to be good. I made many ships while I was in beta using whatever was on hand, and I made good-enough ships. The best resources did make better parts, but not by the huge margin that swords and armor have. The tiers lock you into a more narrow power range. This means that resources matter, but they matter less than the tier of the part. A bad tier 3 will still be better than a great tier 2.

so for the first week dont buy any ships!!!!!!!
=============================================================
Cool, it is refreshing to see posts like this. What you are suggesting is fight Supply and Demand with..... Supply and Demand. Prices will be high because demand will be high and supply will be low. If everyone goes a whole week without out buying then that alters the equation by creating a large supply that will more closely meet the demand.
It is nice when someone discussses the issue of high prices from an economic standpoint instead of a childish "its not fair" point of view.

One thing to consider when you're not buying ships this week is thatas you advance through your pilot skill tree (and Tier 1 doesn't take that long), you will be forced to upgrade your ship before you can advance further.
JTL is not designed for the cash poor. The ships are resource intensive, you also need the components (engines, reactor, etc.), plus you still need to pay additional credits to the chassis build who actually gives you your ship. It's definitly a money sink. It's a lot of fun though.

Im fine with what shipwrights charge ONLY IF...
I can provide you some of the resources and you take it off the price.
I am a droid engineer, DE's are the least common profession IN SWG! were less common than CH's on my server! So dont expect to see Flight computers and starfighter droids cheap.
