Free unlocks are totally based on your holo grinding. At the end of the hologrinding method you needed a total of 9 professions to unlock your FSCS. 4 the Holos would give you and 5 you had to discover on your own. Free unlocks were awarded based on how many of the 9 you still needed.
Needed 1 profession, get 5 Free unlocks, 2...4, 3...3 4...2, 5...1
So basically if you went silent you should have 1 free unlock at a minimum. There is a chance that you could have hit 4 of your 5 hiddens with out hitting any of your 4 holo profs, but that would be improbable. I had some confusion myself on claiming my free unlocks and was very upset as I knew I should have atleast 1, until I tried an oprion on the NPC that seemed unlikely to be the place to ask about them... It was "What other ways can I learn to use the force" Thats where the free unlock option was.
So I guess the question is... did you go silent on Holos and if so did you try that option when talking to the NPC?

Is it true you get a free unlock for grinding pre 9, even if you don't finish what you were grinding?

you had to finish grinding. Some people unlocked because they ground the correct professions that were determined when they created their character. That was the original system. It took most people 24-28 mastered professions to unlock. THose who didn't unlock got credit towards their trees for what they did grind.

I logged in and unlocked Ranged speed branch anyone else get a free unlock?

It's all borked up. I unlocked Melee Speed (or at least thought I had)over the weekend, and today upon logging in it told me I had unlocked Ranged Accuracy and failed the Melee Speed quest. I even received the sculpture piece today. Not happy.

ok i have a question - i had a phase 2 combat mision (melee speed) and i didn't ever get around to doing it - now its phase 3 what will hapen?

you don't get credit for that phase until it comes around again and you complete it

Oh Lord...don't tell me that if you did Sarguillo's Phase 4 quest and got one of the unlocks, the games borked up code assumes you should've gotten the other as well...please please PLEASE tell me that's not the case...

I'm just really PO'ed that I didn't get my stupid Melee Speed. And if I was going to geta free unlock due to a bug, why did it have to be a skill I already have? Bah
