Reasons to go over:
1. Faction Points
There ya go. I go over, head out to Endor, and rake in a few thousand FP's at a rebel respawn point. Deep Space is even faster, but they've made Deep Space harder (those flights of 8 B-Wings spawning on top of you is a real bad news). Still, you get to shoot up corvettes. Not bad.

Maybe I have been lucky, but I have only been 'ganked' once while overt and farming FPs. It is much faster for me to gain them in space than trying to do it on the ground, and the risk seems pretty minimal.

On StarSider we have a pretty good crew of both rebels and imperials that nearly always fly overt......so 90% of the time there's something out there. And the RP plots usually point to a system where the action is (currently, everyone is fighting for Lok.....in the past, tatooine, kessel, etc....)

I will go overt in space... but only for the FP and im doing it because im a quite experienced pilot (not in-game pilot skills though... but im good at flying flight-simulators and such) so... if i can land in the middle of the night on the USS enterprise (F-a/18 korea flight sim
) i should manage to be overt in space at least for a little while. and im flyin a TIE-interceptor and with the right engines it's über fast

that's DS you're talking about I take it. for me when I want FP's i just go to kessel and kill the imperial gunboats there. I get just over 250 fp per gun boat. its nice

Yeah, but in Kessel, you can run out of spawns. That never happens in Deep Space.

Incorrect on both points.
The main reason why more people don't go overt in space is simply because, for whever reason, they do not wish to PvP.
The motivation to go overt however, is there. Space, most specfiically , Deep space, is arguably the best source of FP in the game. However, with that reward comes a risk - one most people won't take simply because they can get FP saftely on the ground, albiet at a MUCH much slower rate, or they simply aren't advanced enough in the piloting tree, or simply don't know any better.
LOL, I wouldn't call that motivation. I'd call it the only reason to go overt. Sadly FP's is not enough to draw more than 1 player every few hours into deep space. And 1 overt player every few days into kessel and the other systems. Deep space has no decay so players really have no reason to be there covert, as they can be attacked there anyway. Being overt everywhere but kessel and deep space should give larger rewards, better loot, and the chance to loot unique items, like ace helmets, special flight suits, flight boots, etc. Plus killing other players should have some reward period. (currently you get nothing, nada, zip, zilch)
I think the problem is that JTL has several story lines to follow but nothing beyond that. Once they complete their pilot tree they will probably go back to the ground game because there isn't anything to do in space and there aren't any rewards at master level that would compare to the elite content loot on the ground. Great loot drops in deep space but without something to do with it besides kill spawns it's not very satisfying.
Think about all the little story driven content missions on the ground. (Jabba's Palace, Emporers Retreat, Nyms Stronghold) Well imagine there were 9 of those total and after you complete them there is nothing else to do but run around killing spawns. That is where JTL is now. It needs more content, a lot more content. Personally I think they really underestimate how many ppl would be playing it if they'd just add a place where players can setup skirmish's.

Another thing that aggravates this issue are the people who think it's stealthier and cooler to fly overt and anon. Why bother? You're looking for a fight, but you don't want people to know you're in the sector? yeesh... Fly overt, searchable and with a recognizable pilot title, it will helpgive you the PvP you claim to seek.

What do you mean searchable and recognizeable? If I hit Target nearest enemy player and it finds someone I'm going to attack them.

he means that when you load into the system and you type /who... soon as I load into a system I hit my closest enemy button, then type /who and look who's on the list. if i see a name that I know is imp or one i'm not too sure of,i begin my patrol and start looking. 9 times out of 10 the people are covert.
i'm always searchable that way people can come look for me.. but i don't feel that they do.
