Thread: 2 reasons noone goes overt in space

If you're a Rebel pilot, then you're piloting a Rebel ship. Imperials should attack you on sight, seeing as you're flying a Rebel ship (X-Wing, A-Wing, B-Wing, Nova Cruiser, ect.). That's shouting out to everyone "hey, I'm a Rebel!" So of course the enemy faction will attack you.
On the ground you're not forced to wear your faction's armor or clothing, so you can go "on leave", which the enemies wouldn't know what faction you are just by looking at you.

Heh, and I go overt in space almost daily. Just to grind faction, really...

I've only seen and killed one overt person in space and I'm pretty sure that person was either loading or AFK. Normally I wouldn't shoot AFK people but I was on a vette run and wasn't really paying attention to whether or not my target was actually moving. I only noticed that he wasn't fighting back after I shot him several times, at which point it was already too late.

2. Because noone else is overt! there is no point in being overt unless you are able to attack other players. the only other players in space that you see overt are the people who are a master pilot with ships that would probably cost like 1000k not even including the cost of the merciless weapons, the impenetrable armor, and its fast funcitioning systems. if you ever do run into an overt player in space and your overt and you havent mastered your pilot proffesion i suggest hyperspacing to the other side of the galaxy
these are probably the 2 main reasons.

Incorrect on both points.

The main reason why more people don't go overt in space is simply because, for whever reason, they do not wish to PvP.

The motivation to go overt however, is there. Space, most specfiically , Deep space, is arguably the best source of FP in the game. However, with that reward comes a risk - one most people won't take simply because they can get FP saftely on the ground, albiet at a MUCH much slower rate, or they simply aren't advanced enough in the piloting tree, or simply don't know any better.

I go overt in space, (for rebels, I am privateer, and rebel on the ground) but it seems I have to find a station agian when I go up next time. I do it only for faction points though, and haven't once run into a pvper outside of deep space.

They should make 'pvp loot' rare items you can only get if you are overt, and make them not dropped in deep space. There is no need to be overt right now, if you want FP you go to deep space and you are locally overt in there, but not in space in general.

Should just require overtness to take the masterbox

A L9 SW crafted gun kills you in one shot. A L10 RE'd gun made entirely of rare drops kills you in one shot. Armor is mostly useless. The worst you'll encounter is a prefix 3800/3800 shield, which does keep the player alive for one more shot. The equipment a player has makes PvE easier, it doesn't help very much in PvP.

It does help psychologicallybecause other people assume that because you're overt, you've got good stuff and they can't beat you. Thinking you've lost before the fight is very, very bad.

WOOT please show me this Inpenetrable armor please....I was overt in my 10000k ship, came across the rebel in 200k ship. We went head to head bam....fu(k my shields/armor is gone....his shields and armor gone. Bam, I got eject message. Never agian I will take my firespray while flying overt. BTW there are no such thing as a UBER weapon/armor in space. IT all comes down to A-wing/TIE advanced/TIE interceptor and whoever gets first successfull hit in.

But you did learn the lesson not to go head 2 head in PvP?

Heh, I'll choose head to head any day of the week if I am getting outturned or otherwise need to take my chances with a head to head to have a chance to survive. As most things, head to head has its place.

The real reasons no one ever goes overt is that it takes too darn long to find anyone. And, if someone is /anon its near impossible. I spend the majority of my spacetime overt when I'm on a factioned player, and its my primary source of fps. The ability to poll the Bothan Spynet or the Inquisition Watcher Net or something, to at least get a rumor of any overt players insystem would be great (hmmm another use of prestige). Not exact locations, but a rough listing. Also nice would be if the Space zone channel was autojoin and display when you hypered in, so you could broadcast, with some hope of it being seen.

In such cases, get organised. On Starsider we have a dedicated website for space pvp, and we organise regular space pvp events through it. We also try to concentrate on one system for overt patrols per week, so people are easier to find, and to organise smaller skirmishes on the fly.

The main reasons for not going overt:

1.No reason to! Most go to space to loot items from NPCs not go up there and PVP in regular space.

2. When Overt your ships have a chance to decay when blasted out of the sky. Nobody wishes to go overt and have their ships blown to pieces everyday then have to construct a new one. The people wish to make money in space not loose money.

3. Space after mastering is boring. Nothing out there but emptyness. I mean there is no ryme or reason to go in space, hence the insta travel options that just skip space all together. NO NEED TO TRAVEL OR GO TO SPACE.

4. NO REAL MISSIONS in space. Nothing to destroy that is player driven, nothing to contribute to the GCW.

5. No real Galactic Civil War in Space. Nothing to do....

Basically JTL is an option to go to space but basically there is no reason to go to space except to master pilot which later on becomes a dusty cert hardly used by anyone. JTL is incomplete in the worst way imagiable because there is no content. Why go to space? There is really nothing up there, even the POIs suck! Why go overt? Faction points I can get on the ground now! Why even fly a ship from planet to plant? I have INSTA TRAVEL and with a ship its FREE!

What is wrong with JTL?

My own opinion is its a very pretty expansion with no substance at all. The ground game is where its at right now and even that suffers from content problems due to this huge concentration of effort just to get the ground game right again. Kashyyyk is on its way as an expansion and lets see what it has to offer. Mining will be pretty interesting but really I want to see a whole new space sector and I hope it has content.

The galactic civil war needs to be addressed in space but as seen in the DEV notes they are pretty busy fixing what they screwed up in the first place so we will be stuck with the emptiness of space for a while to come. I hope that we can get past all this craziness and work our way to getting what we deserve.
