Thread: Factions in Space Forced Playstyle!!!!

-----------------

I think it's more something like : if you fly your faction craft you are automatically 'overt' which is logic imo.

I'm assuming you'll also be able to have a second non-factioned craft with which you can covertly fly into space ?

----------------

That's the thing it doesn't look that way - it's what I'd hoped for. And it doesn't look that wayfor at leasttwo reasons, 1) the mechanism by which you enter space and 2) that there are 3 types of Space Farer, related to factions, Imp/Reb/Neutral. And for many other qualifying statements. Now we can do a rough breakdown of the ships because we do have some information.

Read the article people!

- Reb: X-Wing/A-Wing/Y-Wing
- Imperial: Tie-Bomber/Tie Interceptor/Tie Fighter
- Neutral: Cinco cited the neutral ships as bad'ass because neutrals get to enjoy space in a totally different way - so far we know about the Hutt Fighter. So that's implicit in faction forced playstyle.

From the lucas arts concept are we know there are 3 types of Space-Station. It really looks like faction is much more absolute. And if you've read the article off the homepage on this site, you'll know what I mean.

The Y-(Insert No) could be both Imperial and Rebel. Haven't seen a quote on it. Which would give 4 ships, to Imp/Reb leaving roughly one more.

ermmm......point of order here mateys.....

Isnt there a game mechanic that turns covert GCW participants into overt participants 'ala TEF(faction scanners)? It seems like a fairly basic concept here, if you are in a faction, you should expect to PvP at some point. In fact, If you belong to a faction, you are ALREADY consenting to PvP on some level. - you are forcing the playstyle on YOURSELF, with all the good and bad aspects. So why should space be different? Its YOUR choice to join a faction......nobody put a gun to your head and forced you, so why cry about the consequences and/or limitations?

If you dont want to PvP in space, resign your commission in the GCW and become neutral.Complaining about having to be overt to fly a faction spacecraftis likecomplaining about having to be overt to wear ST armor.....nobody seems to be complaining about that, they accept that part of getting the "perk" is the consequences. You want all the perks with zero risk....hell who doesnt?....but that makes for a boring game in the end my friends.

Im just hoping the "deep space" sectors are mandatory non-consentual areas where piracy can thrive, and that a criminal faction is added to the mix.

Perks are ONLY available to declared Imperials. You by choosing to be covert can step out of PVP. IF you are at an enemy base or town through the use of covert scanners you may be forced over but only under specific circumstances. I personally play 90% of my time declared, few people do that. So - your point? I at times choose to not be forced to fight, try travelling to Corellia as a declared Imperial Crafter? I do it but not all the time.

The big question, if playstyle is limited by Faction is - duh duh - is faction worth it? At present no - not really. The perks are pointless, bases tiresome and pvp slowed to a grinding halt. I've been Imperial since Beta (two weeks as a Rebel), held 7 bases, held rank Colonel, owned two AT-ST.... Fought at countless base takedowns, defened countless bases. Do I want to do this 100% of the time in Space.... Not really.

Also, combat in space will be entirely different than ground combat (hehe, how's that for an obvious statement). What I mean is that the enemies will (should) have a much better chance of killing you if you let your guard down. If the devs do their job, there's going to be no analogue to space buffs and player ships aren't going to be ridiculously superior to NPC ships. So that PC flying a TIE on your tail isn't going to be much different from the NPC, except he'll probably be a little more of a challenge. Whereas on the ground I can AFK macro all but the biggest, baddest beasts until my buffs run out but a PC can wipe me out in short order.

It sounds to me like "faction forced playing style" is in refernce to advancement in faction pilot professions being content based. In other words to advance to a rebel Ace you have to complete faction based missions and blow up imperials. It also sounds like "not bing a full memeber" means that faction pilots will have ships available that will allow them to fly covert.

It seems like the common sense best sloution to me. Any time you fly an X-Wing or TIE you better be ready to fight but you can also hop in a different craft if you don't feel like fighting as much (though you prolly only advance in a factioned prfession by flying factioned craft)

To me it reads - if you're Imperial. Declared or not - you only fly Imperial Craft and play in a particular way as 'neutrals will have a unique way of playing deep space'. Sooooo - you not only fly Imperial Craft, you do for all intensive purposes ONLY factioned orientated activities.

That, my friend, is the key phrase of this entire discussion. We don't know. Plain and simple. We have to see what the Devs have in store before we pass judgement (freak out?).

I do understand your concern though. I really thought this would be a pretty simple system but, from what I've heard, I really can't make heads or tails of it. Don't know if the Devs are being mysterious/cryptic on purpose or if they really don't know how they are going to do it yet.

You're overanalyzing the statement. Just chill, you'll have more to do then "factioned orientated activities".

Lol. Do I get a cookie if I'm right? I discovered through beta - ya have to know when to fight and when not to before it's too late. But ya'll right we'll see. I just noted a few key statements "Yeah... I mean forced. Yeah..." etc. Will be interesting =)

No cookie for JOOOO!!

lol i know what you mean. I was in beta 3 and saw the train wreck before it happened. The one thing that gives me hope is that the Devs have done a much better job with player feedback on TC. The Jedi revamp (as much as I think it should have been AFTER the CB and GCW fixes, but that's for another thread...) is a good example. From everything I read, they're going about it the right way.

But who knows, you could be right. I would make some cookies but I don't think anyone would like to eat them

I'm really starting to think that creation of this board should have waited till Beta. That way, there would actually be some solid facts. We could prevent threads like this that just whine for no apparent reason. Chances are pretty good that you're just misinformed and wasting time by complaining.
